@EMILBUS4390116 we live in upstate N.Y. now that deer season is over for gun we gonna get to some coonhunting as long as the weather chills out. been nasty out the last few days.
@coonhunterNY i know i am gonna bring my mountain cur out on chritmas vacation which starts today so i have all 2 weeks to bring her squirell and conn hutning
If my dog shows barely any intrest in the coon what can i do to help that I have only been working with him for one night but he didnt take a 2nd look barely. hes only a single dog so I dont know advice??
@skatecross27 how old is your dog? if it is new to new game then its going to take a few trips to the woods just run some trails with a coon or coon hide and if your dog trails the scent good do that till it keeps finding the coon or hide then the one sure fire way to see if your dog is going to do anything is either catch one in a live trap ( but make sure you dont need a trapping license first) and let it go and have dog chase it up a tree that way it get the idea and to look up
@Kbacewic to see if they show interest mostly and we started training them when they were about 10 wks old when we got em. that way worked pretty good we showed them a hide and laid traild for them to so when they got big enough to go to woods they had a liil head start
the other night we were workin with a walker and we had 3 other dogs loaded up and the pup had never seen a live coon and that dog crawled a a hole and pulled out a big ass coon
thats awesome!! we our selves try to keep our dogs out of holes cuzz the last experience was a stinky one lol. one coon at one end and a skunk at the other . dont follow the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak might be a train at the other end. but that is awesome to see a pup get right into . am sure he will turn out awesome. so far we have had a few good runs. good luck let me know ya dogs do. :)
hi , :) and ty for the comment. well they arent pups anymore lol. they are 2 yrs old now. and cats do awespme for catching mice and such. not sure if these blueticks are much of mousers but they do good on treeing raccoons :P.
That one is a pure natural. She tracked it the entire time. I want a blue tick badly but dont have the room yet. I grew up with blue ticks. They are some of the best natured dogs in the world.
ok i got me a new one but i am kinda new too coon hunting i bought some sent tranner and what else do u think i need to do to git im tranned im trying to git a caged one now
what do you think the best king of hound is i used to work with them but havent had one in a while i have had 3 walkers and a redbone not 2 long ago my redbone got stolen 2 of my walker had 2 be rehomed because no one could sleep at night with them baying all night and i had to shoot my other walker cuz he got rabies from a coon and it was like $700 to get them treated. i loved my redbone more than anything but what do you think the best is
I'm considering getting a coonhound of some sort, because I've just fallen inlove with them. I might not use them for coon huntin, because, well, my family doesn't aprove of hunting so I'll have to teach it to tree squirrels or something.. Lame, I know..
hello moto cross, thats awesome. they are great hounds. a buddy oura got one last fall and we take her out with ours. and she will be running with our pack this season its just awesome to hear them bawling through the woods. hope ya put some videos up of your redbone would love to see it. oura are grown now but seeing them as pups are awesome..
sorry for the typo didnt see it till it was posted . i meant a buddy of ours. :) and we would love seeing some videos of ya pups progress good or bad. i just love them regardless.
hello 4 Buck. as for myself at what age i hear all different times as to when to train them. some ppl say wait 3-4 months others say less. heck we couldnt wait to start ours so we started training them before we even got the kennel set up. of course i had some kits that i had frozen and just toyed with them to see what they would do. .
so we trained them at just about when they was 8 wks old. and to be honest they kick ass now. just take your time with working with them a little bit each day or how ever much you can commit to spending with them. good luck and hope to see some videos
will you give me complete instrocians on traning a hound to hunt coons or atleast your method please it would realy help and starting from when there puppies thanks
omj. Those pups are ADORABLE! I think the one that kept after it, will (or has) turned out great. But it all depends on whether the dog has it in them or not and so far, they're lookin to turn out real nice =)
howd them dogs turn out. That's probably a good idea. get em used to the scent early as long as they don't get bored with it. cute stage though the pups
they turned out to be good so far and they aren't chasing anything else or going off track on oter animals . taking them out again this weekened too. if ya do a search on coonhunterny it will bring the other videos up when they are older. this will be their 1st actuall season. can't wait and thanx for the comment
its a real baby raccoon we was raising them to release back into the wild but one didn't make it so i had saved it and it came in handy. ty for the comment
