freeze was such a great villain in the animated series, he had a tragic backstory, amazing dialogue, and he looked and sounded really awesome! but who the heck wants THAT when we can have arnold Shwarzenegger playing him, while spouting utterly awful puns?
A 25 year old man cried today upon seeing this EPIC clip!! Mr. Freeze is a MUCH deeper character than any cartoon I have EVER seen!! I cry for you, Mr. Freeze! As a recently married man, I cry for you!
This was good but it skipped all the best parts of this part of the episode where Freeze freezes the building and when Batman defeats Freeze with chicken soup.
@StellaMagic37 You know, I actually asked about the hypothetical legal ramifications of his actions on Yahoo answers. That was the day I learned that the internet has more assholes than a proctologist's office.
I personally only see assault (from the kick). Maybe endangerment from ordering the guards to take Nora out of the tube. He SHOULD ave called the cops to protect himself legally.
@1acroyear1 It's not just the legal ramifications that are the problem. Once that footage is out, and it shows that so-called "humanitarian" Boyle essentially killed a woman and crippled a man for life, his reputation will be ruined forever. No one will ever look at him the same way again.
@1acroyear1 Being a politician is one thing. No matter how badly you screw up there will always be people who support you. Being the CEO of a company that had been known up til then as "The People Company" is another matter. If you're a businessman, having your reputation shot can be crippling. Plus, no one knows that Nora is still alive. It doesn't matter that he didn't actualy kill her. Everyone thinks he did.
So, yeah, no laws broken (other than the kick). But Boyle's fucked nonetheless.
Batman & Robin was sooooooo disappointing. Couldnt have missed the mark any further with Mr. Freeze, and Barbara as Alfred's niece.. i was in the theather like WAAA?!
It's quite amazing how much this show changed the world of Batman in the comics. It made Mr. Freeze a deeper character (rather than simply a man with an ice obsession), changed the designs of several characters (such as Two-Face) and introduced new characters (most notably Harley Quinn, and as a result, the relationship between her and Poison Ivy).
@PaulAnt2008 Well, yes. This is what happens when you have writers who actually draw from the work's many decades of lore and who actually love it. Compare to the movie adaptation and you'll see the shift in focus from art to entertainment (if you can call the movie that).
I love watching this video a lot. You did an excellent job on this video and the other videos you did. Mr. Freeze is my favorite Batman villain other than the Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Two-Face and Bane. Anyways, good video.
Oh and just for fun, if anyone was to ever play Mr. Freeze again, Ralph Fiennes should so play him. He'd make a real good Mr. Freeze. Heck, his voice reminds me of the Mr. Freeze that we see in this video. Anyways, great job!!!
@Soto885 Thanks very much. If I may say so, I am a little proud of the editing job I did on this. But this is a masterpiece of storytelling. All I could do was condense it and hope it didn't lose its power to evoke feelings. I hope I did aa satisfactory job.
Heh. Anyone else would have just swapped the audio with "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" or "Lux Aeterna" or something from Evanescence.
@1acroyear1 You did an excellent job my friend. I love watching this video a lot. It helped me remain calm whenever I had too much stress going on during my Summer class that happened from July to August 5. Anyways, you did an excellent job and keep up the good work
you know i always felt that mr freeze was the most sympathatic batman villian o any villain ever . He's not doing terrible things for money not even for power. He does what he does because he rightfully feels that he was wronged by society I really can't hate him for doing what he does because of what happened to him.
Does it make what he does right? oh hell no
Does it make me want to see him get some justice? Oh hell yes
Dr. Freeze loses his wife and decides to make everyone feel his pain. Batman loses his parents and decides to protect everyone else from ever experiencing his pain. Freeze is the dark Batman that could have been.
its hard not to feel for him considering what he lost. if it where me i would most likely react the same. my favorite batman villain...

"I failed you. I wish there were another way for me to say it... I cannot, I can only beg your forgiveness and pray you hear me somehow, someplace... someplace where a warm hand waits for mine." true grief
It's stuff like this way the show worked so darn well! Mr. Freeze wasn't some generic take over the city villain. He suffered a cruel fate and and accident that turned him into Mr. Freeze. Heck, having Batman say "i saw what happened to your wife. I'm sorry" is damn good stuff cuz it shows Batman is human and does feel a sense of pity for Freeze. He'd want to help Freeze, but still must stand by justice.
Mr. Freeze is the most depressing villain of all... I love him. He just wants to make the world into this cold and lonely place... where there is no hope, no chance of warmth, or life... a place worse than hell.
"I failed you. I wish there were another way for me to say it... I cannot, I can only beg your forgiveness and pray you hear me somehow, someplace... someplace where a warm hand waits for mine."
Thank you so much for posting this. This episode is my favorite Batman ep EVER, and also the first one to make me cry. ... In fact, I'm crying now. Thank you.
Well, both Freeze and Nora are still alive, so he can't get charged with murder or manslaughter. Honestly, I'm not sure he did anything illegal, really.
Maybe some kind of endangerment charge for not notifying the authorities immediately after seeing Nora in that chamber?
That's a very good question. What could Ferris Boyle have been charged with in this case?
Any law students or something like that in the house?
Well... manslaughter maybe, but he wasn't the one who put Nora in the freezer. And as for kicking Victor into the coolant, that could have been self-defense. He had a gun pointed at him, after all.
Well, mostly every villain thinks that the evil he does is for a good reason. What makes this version of Mister Freeze so compelling this that you actually feel his pain and can somewhat see his way of thinking. Most of the best bad guys are like that.
For example, who can you understand more as a bad guy between Freiza and Vegeta? Frieza's selfish, period. Vegeta was taken at youth, his world destroyed and expectations dashed throughout his life.
Lol. Sorry. I shouldn't have just assumed off-hand that you have any knowledge of Dragon Ball Z, but that's what I'm referring to. If you've never seen it I recommend it.

Well, that guy Boyle who ruined Freeze's experiment is going to pay because Batman had the evidence of him ruining his experiment. So he'll go to jail with pretty much dead legs when they defrost the ice...
Mr. Freeze is the best tragic villain ever. I find that "coldness" full of despair and vengeance. He reappeared in Batman Beyond in an awesome episode. It is a shame that his character was ruined in Batman and Robin. I have hope that the new Batman movie series will recreate the Victor Fries that we all love.
Yeah the Btas was not at all chidlish the never batman cartons are made just for kids...hmm baby exept that batman beyond joker movie the uncut version but exept that btas rulez coz it is not only for kids older fans can find many things in it as they wath it again after years
awesome. I noticed that Batman cartoons are much more violent than the other ones. Heck, they even use real bullets instead of those geeky laser pistals. I think Mr. Freeze is my favorite BM villain. He needs a hug.
Personally I hate calling Batman:TAS a cartoon because it isn't like a cartoon. It's serious, emotional and very dark. Classics are so much better then all the rotten screwed up trash thrown out today! Not to mention they're far more violent then Batman and other 90s shows. What happened to good emotional shows like Batman? Why does everything have to be so screwed and horrible up these days? Death to today's cartoons and up with the classics.
@RidleyofJLA Dark and sappy emotion isn't really fashionable with cartoonists today, I think. They say cartoons are supposed to make people laugh, like Looney Tunes, which is of course a classic.
this was an exponical masterpeice. always made me shead tears. but recently. DC killed his charter with a petty crimanl with magic frezzing powers. sad life in deed. :(
ahh man these were the great batman cartoons, perfect music, the mood, the environment; the new ones are so terrible;but this episode was one my of my favs
Yes. This episode is an unequivocal masterpiece of storytelling. Too bad the movie wasn't nearly as good. It would have been a phenominal money maker instead of the joke it is.
That bit where Batman is going through the files and finds that security tape is a prime example of the kind of film-esque music that cartoons used to have. But no longer do.
Animated television soundtracks these days have become nothing more than recycled synth pads, lousy licensed songs, and cheap sounding pianos. Which is probably the biggest reason why I find it hard to get a sense of atmosphere in anything recent.
Schumacher took a shit on it.

Shouldn't Mr freeze's breath show when he talks?
oktoberK 2 years ago
Actually in the comics he was just a psycho. It was the animation that gave him justified angst.

Poor Mr. Freeze. Does anyone know where I can find the episode?
SmeetsWT 3 years ago
Dr. Freeze has the most tragic story of the Batman villians. Sad to see someone loose everything and then try to reclaim it through violence.
2cool4you2 3 years ago 4
story of Mr.Freeze is very sad..out of all the villains in batman to Freeze seems the most broken but humane
saberjocky 3 years ago 4
true, but i also love two face and clayface, so tragic

The guy that walks in and tries to shut down the experiment sounded like Mark Hamill

intense79nick 3 years ago
Mark Hamill voiced/ played Ferris Boyle. So it's not just you :)

Question... is Fries' old colleague's name Boyle? Fries/Boyle... Freeze/Boil? Or am I just hearing it wrong?
JimKuback2009 3 years ago
Nope, you're hearing it right.
JKB1980 3 years ago
Lol! You know I didn't pick up on that? I just figured it was "boil" like in the thing on my ass because that's what he acts like.
1acroyear1 3 years ago
Good video. You should have left in, "Good night, humanitarian." but still a good video.
DamionFJS 3 years ago
Poor guy. he only wanted to avenge his wife's death. But batman had to stop him just before he could complete his mission.
giguyjoe2nd 3 years ago 4
Well, that guy Boyle who ruined Freeze's experiment is going to pay because Batman had the evidence of him ruining his experiment. So he'll go to jail with pretty much dead legs when they defrost the ice...
neo19881227 3 years ago
he gave the evidence to some random lady lol

I think she was a news reporter. She's in a few other episodes

He needs a hug.
wreathofpalmaria 3 years ago 3
This deserves an oscar!
It is a highly tragic love story which brings passion into the world of villans!
A masterpiece it be however it's beauty and wonder lives on even after the slaughter to this masterpiece by!
I blame joel schoemocher!
This is much better than "The batman"
It has no emotion
WilliamGrantham 3 years ago 4
This already won an Emmy. Plus, it has what made the series so popular in the first place.

This is beautifull and...sad

Personally I hate calling Batman:TAS a cartoon because it isn't like a cartoon. It's serious, emotional and very dark. Classics are so much better then all the rotten screwed up trash thrown out today! Not to mention they're far more violent then Batman and other 90s shows. What happened to good emotional shows like Batman? Why does everything have to be so screwed and horrible up these days? Death to today's cartoons and up with the classics.
RidleyofJLA 3 years ago 26
@RidleyofJLA Dark and sappy emotion isn't really fashionable with cartoonists today, I think. They say cartoons are supposed to make people laugh, like Looney Tunes, which is of course a classic.

this was an exponical masterpeice. always made me shead tears. but recently. DC killed his charter with a petty crimanl with magic frezzing powers. sad life in deed. :(

"Yesss...it would move me to tears, if I still had tears to shed."
God, such a great character, too bad "Batman and Robin" and the new "The Batman" are basically throwing his character into the toilet.
MasteroninXIII 3 years ago 18
I couldn't agree more. Joker and Freeze were always my two favorite villains. They made Freeze a joke in B&R and I really dislike "The Batman".
haskellstoner 3 years ago 6
I agree. I do however like the design for Freeze, but to turn him into a petty thug was just stupid
DamionFJS 3 years ago
@MasteroninXIII My thoughts exactly.
They ruined the most memorable episode instead of making an epic.

ahh man these were the great batman cartoons, perfect music, the mood, the environment; the new ones are so terrible;but this episode was one my of my favs
snipinghost 3 years ago 10
Yes. This episode is an unequivocal masterpiece of storytelling. Too bad the movie wasn't nearly as good. It would have been a phenominal money maker instead of the joke it is.
1acroyear1 3 years ago
You gotta love how Mark Hamill outs so much greed in Doyle's voice.
dk2k1 4 years ago 8
That bit where Batman is going through the files and finds that security tape is a prime example of the kind of film-esque music that cartoons used to have. But no longer do.
Animated television soundtracks these days have become nothing more than recycled synth pads, lousy licensed songs, and cheap sounding pianos. Which is probably the biggest reason why I find it hard to get a sense of atmosphere in anything recent.

when this was on TV over ten years ago..deffinetly my fav episode

Oh yeah. I loved this ep, a tearjerker through and through. Ever read Paul Dini's 'Mr Freeze' comic, that was good too.
