This is actually a really cool song (unlike something like "Mine smell like...")
"Collapse" is the only REM I can actually say I don't want to listen to. I will never like it.
And I will never be okay with their breakup.
(Unless they have actually just gone underground and it's all a ruse...
If they keep putting out songs like this, I will suspect that. And they will firmly cement their place in my heart as the most respectable band in history. But right now that's pretty mangled. I want REM!)
Oh that´s amazing, fantastic great song of the greatest Band of the World. :-) R.E.M. is a Legend. :-) Michael Stipe´s Voice is great an fantastic.. :-)
Too bad he doesn't SING anymore. He just talks. Remember the pre-'95 melodies? Songs like this are embarrassing for them. Anyone could write this crap. Listen to the music for God's sake.
unfortunately you're absolutely right. last acceptable album was "new adventures in hi-fi". after that there were just a couple of good songs - like "daysleeper", "at my most beautiful", "imitation of live", their reissued "bad day" and eventually "supernatural superserious". they once were just great - but i totally gave up on them.
The lyric to this essentiale song is absolutly beautiful, I am only wondering now if it is possible to find this recond on an album somewhere, somehow and for good reason
"Now the hope for the future took a pounding in the parking lot
And the answer for today is all I got
When your name is called the lights went down
The time is the essence excuse me
And I'm blinking at the vanishing point of what I thought"
Outstanding audio quality of an "instant classic" R.E.M. song; the verse's guitar riff sounds like Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" and the chorus David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel", but the Peter Buck makes them his own and the lyrics are pure Michael Stipe. Why this cool song wasn't on their rockin' Accelerate CD is beyond me.
i totally agree.fantastic song. i was at 2 of the 5 "rehearsals" in the olympia theatre in dublin in 2007 when they were recording accelerate. this was the best song both nights. im puzzled it didn't make accelerate or collapse into now. i guess it might make a reappearance in a few years like "bad day" did in 2003. "on the fly" is a very good tune too and didnt make either album..... im gonna dj was around for a while too before it made it onto an album, they make strange decisions at times
Brilliant raw song should of easily made Accelarate really funky bass line as well

Por qué no la incluyeron en Accelerate? Si es genial! Accelerate es un gran disco, pero al pensar que descartaron esta canción, parece imcompleto...

This song so should have been on Accelerate. Like Fascinating should have been on Reveal. I adore REM but question their judgment sometimes!!!

I agree, don't know why it didn't make Accelerate. I saw them perform it at Dublin and thought it was a standout track. But what do I know!!

This is such a great tune! It definitely should've been on Accelerate. The album would still be short and concise with this song.
