Amazing reception for a 35 year old radio it sounds just as good as some of the modern radios of today. god i was only eight when this radio was made lol.
Glad you like the tower...............but some of my Neighbours are K@obs like most when it comes to planning for my antenna system mate!!.........LOL
Hey Dave, I changed the band on my ft101e over to 80A mode on AM - i was able to hear what i believe were ham radio talkers. They were very close. However; Their voice wasnt coming in clear. Sounded a bit electronic. Was wondering if it could be my antenna? Iv tried to tune it in clearer but with no luck. Iv got a pretty basic antenna at the peak of my roof. It's about a 5ft whip antenna. Some frequencies on AM 40B come in perfect. Like a talk group (open forum) Appreciate any input. Thanks m8
Sometimes an SSB signal on AM (by mistake ) sounds this way.Not many "Hams" use AM these days............some of the "Oldtimers " still run AM mode as do all CBers still in the States...........but most voice comms (Phone as it's known) is on Singal Sideband.....or SSB for short. The 5 ft antenna is a waste of time ...even for listening......try a Wire Dipole or a "G5RV antenna".These are cheap as chips on E-bay and Radio stores.......Regards Dave.
Ah thanks Dave. I figured out why the other end was coming in garbled. Then the radio was switched to sideband; i have to fine tune with the clarifier to bring the signal in clearer. Otherwise its garbled/distorted. Also i'll be looking into a 21ft ground plane. I know iv said thanks every time iv replied and i dont want to sound like a broken record. But; With your video i was able to stumble upon learning something knew for my new adventure into cb/ham. Thank you.
hay dave cool radio! where did you get that? pure classic radio like my YAESU FT 707 tell you what you know that verser tower you've got! you should put your shakesphere army big stick 1600! an top of that! emagine the range you'd be king of the c.b radio and of the 10meter amature band! you'd get!. God if I had something like that! I'd defo put my shakesphere abs 1600 on top! also just want to ask how high does it go? 73's mate your amature radio/c.b'er mate stephen M3SNV.
OH WOW! I decided i would set the radio to what i see you have yours on in your video here; And i got to tuning the frequency and i can now hear the radio. I want to thank you so much for this video. Have i not found it and decided to mimic your settings; I probably wouldnt have heard this radio play again. Its been 5 years since i heard my grandpa use it. But thank you so much for the video. I greatly appreciate it! Luther fr USA

I have one of these sitting beside me right now on my dresser. It was my grandpas. It hasnt been used in 5 years since his passing. Iv toyed around with it a little while. Unable to hear anything clearly. I know i dont have it set correctly. For CB (citizen band) Was wondering if you could put up a video showing how to get it setup for that? Maybe HAM as well? Would appreciate it! Thanks.
It becomes a different ballgame with beams and amps,I know I run wires and QRP for years...........now I don't!!!.............enjoy the hobby..........73's DAVE.
