We signed the treaty of the Geneva convention and we don't torture for one reason because we don't want our own troops to be tortured should they be caught in war time. If it is known that we do torture then the chance of our own soldiers that are caught would be treated the same is more than likely. I was actually in the US army. I served two terms in Iraq and lost several friends. I do know the reality. I also know that there were many people who we captured that had very little knowledge of anything and torture wouldn't draw out any information.

We signed the treaty of the Geneva convention and we don't torture for one reason because we don't want our own troops to be tortured should they be caught in war time. If it is known that we do torture then the chance of our own soldiers that are caught would be treated the same is more than likely. I say this knowing that our soldiers and civilians have experienced this and far worse but when we act in the same we disregard the safety of future potential prisoners or our own military.

The CIA version of waterboarding utilized as part of their enhanced interrogation program is no where near the same as the form used against our soldiers in WWII. As you know, our soldiers were starved, multilated, beaten, AND THEN subjected to water torture. "Waterboarding" can be a highly equivocal term. Both were waterboarded. Before they were waterboarded, they gave nothing. Afterwards we got more info than we got doing anything else, leading to the captures of other top pukes. Lets imagine that we were informed that a foreign country had detained some of our troops and they were using these same techniques on them. Again, there is a difference between terrorists and soldiers. We went out of our way to avoid any civilian casualties in Iraq. We did so even at the risk of our own soldiers lives.
We did not bomb residential areas. We did not intentionally target women and children to create terror. You simply cannot see the difference because you are anti-use of force. If we had employed terrorist tactics, we would have loss far less soldiers. We would have level towns instead of going door to door.

Actually, prisoners of war are given Geneva Conventions categories that dictate their treatment. All are intended to be treated with respect. It's as if you're saying that it's okay for another country to humiliate america's soldiers if we went to war with them because they were pow's.
Also, these people are not classified as POW's.

I was actually in the US army. I served two terms in Iraq and lost several friends. I do know the reality. I also know that there were many people who we captured that had very little knowledge of anything and torture wouldn't draw out any information.
It's sad to think that because someone was captured in a conflict, that you assume it automatically makes them a terrorist.

I was in the Air Force, 126 Camron in the 70s. We drill and train to perfect following orders because it's crucial for everyone's survival. We pray that when we give orders they are good orders.. There is no room for democracy or critical thinking in the military community, that's a luxury the private sector takes for granted. When man confronts the abyss he finds his true character.
