  • what strings did you use??

  • hey there. great sound. i went and took the same type water bottle from my work and just finished copying your good idea and made it for 4 strings. just wondering what type of strings to use. you said you used the D and A string. were they from and guitar or bass. electric or acoustic. im thinking the best thing to do is buy acoustic bass strings but not sure. what you think.?.

  • Nice. Bad ass bass

  • what are the scale? nut to bridge...?

  • Thanks for the inspiration. Check out the 3 string one we made out of a oak pallet board. Total cost with pickup and everything, 24.95!

  • or maybe you could buy a real bass :P ...

  • @nirvanafans1 that's not the point

  • How much did it cost to make?

  • just wondering.... are you danish Tychsen?

  • @ts2101 Yes I am. :)

  • FEAR FACTORY T-SHIRT!!!:D

  • would this work if i make just a guitar instead of a bass guitar? like instead of two bass strings i put six guitar strings? thanks

  • @monkeyboy9819 the only thing to worry about is the combined tension of the strings versus the stiffness of the wood of the neck. If you use a two by four, it will definitely work. :) Try it out.

  • i would have melted the neck of the bottle so it sits flat against the wood.

  • Awesome video, gotta try this myself. Also got the same Demanufacture shirt, play some fear factory on this beast ;)

  • i duno. sounds a bit watery :/

  • make one from lego!

  • I watched the other vid of you playing it too, WOW it's pretty loud and has a decent tone. Amazing!

  • wonder why must you use the bottle ..what is it for.It look weird..

  • @mpeakay

Do you know how a guitar works?

It's not an electric bass, it's an acoustic one, you like, need a resonator.

    Physics, sixth class. :D

  • @mpeakay for the acoustics

  • "Made from a Wadda Coota Bodda"

  • genius thinking dude!

  • Unsure if I should be impressed or disgusted

  • about how long did it take you to make this??

  • Syntes at jeg kunne høre på din accent at du var dansk,

så tjekkede da lige din profil og binko det var du søreme :D

  • could u make a 3 or 4 strring?

  • A little step to become a real acoustic bass

  • One person has no creative skills at all.

  • Boy, you hit hard asshole! And your bass bullshit!

  • can u make a 4string bass as well??

  • @frozenblade1995 why not

  • this is awesome!!!! If you add a pick-up you can rock on-stage as well. I might build one myself. And also build the 'jack white' bottle guitar, make a bottle drumstel, and record some songs. Thanks for inspiring me!!!!!

  • i have that exact acoustic guitar that he has on the wall, also can you make a guitar with all that?

  • i have a bass neck... could i use that neck to build one??

  • This actually proves that people don't have to go out and spend the premium buck on guitar parts. They can actually get pretty decent-sounding designs. All they need is a little creativity. :) Thanks for posting!

  • @snickersfan15

I agree i always wanted to make my own instrument, mostly guitar but a bass isnt far off :D

  • Love it!

  • you look like a pedophile

  • this is actually sick

  • did you use real bass string s???

  • @ghostkid777 Yes. I used the E and A sting.

  • @Tychsen81 You said you used the E and A strings. How do you have it tuned? Is it tuned to E and A?

  • @totallyfrozen Yes.

  • @Tychsen81 did you use round wound or flat wound strings? I'm thinking flat wound would be better b/c of the fretless nature of the bass but I just wanted to know what you used. Thanks

  • @Amcclai785 It is plain old round wound. Nothing fancy.

  • will this work with a used mini keg??

  • @bobbymdcjr Definitely :) The sound will be different, but it will sound. :)

  • @Tychsen81 Er du dansker!

  • @isayah85 Ja, jeg er dansker.

  • How much did you cut off the jar? Please reply... I really would like if you give me exact dimensions like 12x12 cm or something thanks

  • @Supercharge18 I just cut out the whole handle.I guess it's about 25x40 cm or so. Could be smaller..

  • @Tychsen81 thanks dude! this thing should be on a Physics book and should say your name on it... imagine your son or daughter going to HS taking physics class and read's his/hers daddy's name on it lolz

  • @Supercharge18 It's really nothing mutch.. I just know the pieces that makes a guitar, and then just quickly found some scrap that would make it up for the real deal, and put it together. No calculations were ever made. Just plain old eye-measurement and intuition. :) But thanx!

  • @Tychsen81 actually there are calculations but you just dont realize them xD like vibration of the string and other boring stuff lolz but yeah this thing is very awesome

  • I realize that calculations are needed to optimize the sounding of the guitar, like string thikness, tension, volume and all that. I just didn't do any. Like I said, pure eye-measurement and intuition. It wasn't meant to be more than a couple og hours build, witch is actually more than it took to build it. And i was drunk :) You can get sound out of anything. It's just how good you want it to sound, and luckily, i'm pretty satisfied.

  • this just gave me so many ideas XD I could use classical strings on this! (the plastic ones).

And did you measure how much you cut out of the jug or does it not matter? Since I would think the smaller it is the more vibration there will be.

  • how long is the neck

  • @MrNikcccc

acoustic guitar for a day is about 63 cm, but I recommend using 75 cm and do what I do then is just long enough

  • someone should make a band with stuff like this

  • so ingenius so cool thanks###

  • hi im thinking of doing a similar project! would u suggest acoustic bass strings or just normal bass strings?

  • Wicked, cool bass u got there! ;)

  • Good job mate.......time well spent......best regards....Roger

  • GENIUS!!!!

  • add a piezo element from radioshack with some fittings and you can make it acoustic/electric. imma try and build this four string and add a pizeo, and i'm hoping to make a vid

  • could you use acoustic tuning pegs?

  • AWESOME!!! Please post this at HandmadeMusicClubhouse dotcom

  • Great build!!!. Ever check out the cigar box guitar builders? or the handmade music clubhouse?

  • Fuck den er fed man!! Hvordan fik du den idé? :)

  • And the sound? It seems that sounds good .. just heard a second.

  • And the sound? Think it sounds very good .. instead listen only a second.

  • dude...did you used any specific type of wood? or just some random shit you found? hahaha

amazing work man! love how it sounds really loud!

  • Massive coolness !

  • i want to make one but i probably wont bother

  • as of today I'm collecting all the supplies i need and planning out my design, I will post a video as soon as I can. This will be my first you tube video as well as my first homemade bass.

  • You should get a transducer pickup to attach to the bridge so that you can amplify it!

  • @XcatisX but then he wouldn't need the bottle. The cool thing about it is it's acoustic and still sounds pretty cool.

  • How loud does this get?

  • WHAT KIND OF STRINGS DO YUO NEED??

    I WANT DO ONE

  • Why not make it a 5 string after making the holes? or would that make too much tension?

  • 4:24 "Mounted with a couple of nuts... " By the way, AMAZING video!

  • That is awesome ! Have you thought of putting a electric bass pickup inside? It would then be an acoustic/electric.

  • So I went to a music store today to get some tuners for this project, and I was talking to the helper about it. He asked if I was gonna put a rod in to prevent it from warping, and if I don't the neck will be ruined very quickly. I'm assuming that you didn't put a rod in, but how did it last 5 years without bending as much as the guy said it will? I'm not trusting the guy at all, because he may be one of the worst store helpers I've ever gone to. But you never know, he may be right.

  • @SqueezeMyLemon68 I think it's because i only have two stings on it, the A and D string tuned down to E and A, so it's half the strings with about half the tension. That's around 1/4 of the total tension on a regular 4 string. That's why i don't need a tension rod. The man you spoke with didn't know that. :) The kind of wood i used for the neck is not very hard either. I think it's pine or something like that.. Could be made with much harder wood to withstand the tension from more strings.

  • I'll be building this sometime soon, and I was wondering about the neck. Is that just a plank of wood with red paint, or is there a finish on there so it won't chip or ruin the strings?

When I build mine, if I ever do, I'll try to get a vid up. It might not be soon cause I'm waiting for a rainy day, but the weather has been too damn good lately.

  • @SqueezeMyLemon68 It's just a plank of wood with paint on it. Nothing fancy. :) Looking forward to your vid.
