that gym is ridiculous. i would never leave the place. I can't believe Universities have gyms like that nowadays. That pretty much beats any gym open to the public i've ever seen. Can you deadlift there?

pull downs?
if you don't have a pull down-pulley then you can always:
a. get a stool/chair, place it under the pull up bar.
b. lift yourself up with your legs so your chin is at the bar level (on a pull up position)
c. place your hands in the air and try to do the pull down part of the pull-up without any assist from your legs
d. repeat step b
that's how i got started, now i can do like 15 pull ups with flawless form :D
