  • It is amazing how our society has become so inept at doing anything. Some tips for ya...1. learn how to sharpen a knife...2. Cute child but if you are gonna make a video get a sitter. 3. Keep practicing buddy.

  • You need a sharper and smaller knife. Back when I was a kid we would butcher a chicken every Sunday. I butchered them with a pocket knife in about two minutes and the dogs ate the scraps.

  • Thank you so much!! you make me feel like i can really do this ((tears))

  • nevermind! lol i watched the rest of the video. still curious about the tips though

  • i heard that you can eat the heart and other organs. is this true? if so any good recipes or tips you recomend?

  • one of the better instructionals out there. thanks for this!

  • Thanks for the vid. am planning on getting chickens this spring. we had them when i was a kid but didn't remember how to butcher them. so i thank you for the reminder on how to.. with the economy like it is i'm trying to prep. for raising our own food.

  • Give me a break. You'll thank God you learned this one day. Excellent video.

  • I couldn't touch dead animals like that.

This is too brutal for me. Thats why I buy chicken legs at the supermarket.

  • I agree with the kid.

  • Hello, How long do you have to wait to cook the bird? I heard that you have to wait 24hrs before eating because of the endorphins to leach out of the bird so it wont be tuff. Is this true?

  • @ar1961sc I have not heard that before. I have not noticed a difference though. In most cases though we are freezing or canning them and they are consumed at a much later date.

  • Great stuff, got a chicken to lay eggs for a year or 2, will it still be ok to eat after its 2 or 3 years old.

  • @idak12 probably not. The older the chicken gets, the tougher the meat gets.

  • @idak12 Abbsolutly! I prefer to can the older chickens. They turn out much better.

  • Used this video to butcher my first chicken. Thanks!!

  • @DalahiaD Thats great to hear!

  • Great job butchering and cleaning chickens but...there is nothing in the gizard that will dull a knife, no more then cutting the feet off or any other body parts.

  • @DarkBrownEggs They eat gravel and sand that stays in the gizzard for a while to grind up food, wouldn't want to try cutting a rock :p.

  • It need not be so much work. Start with a smaller knife, and watch a couple other videos.

  • ew

  • why am i watching this?

  • Thanks mate. I just used these vids for my first chook butchering. Went perfectly! If only a bit slow. Roast chicken for dinner tomorrow.

Do you use the trimmed fat for anything? (my chooks are FAT)

  • Excellent videos !!! thanks for sharing your knowledge ...
