If our grandfathers enslaved the jewish 3000 years ago the Israiles killing our brothers in palaston at the the moment and killed our war prisoners over ages what afair world,,,,
It is funny that a lot of comments are about Hitler and Nazis just because this song is in german. BUT nobody talks about the Egyptian and how they killed and enslaved the people in this movie. o_O
I guess in 50 or 100 years nobody will talk about Hitler anymore....just like the Egyptian and the Jews, the American and the Indian or the black slaves.
You know (to all the commenters out there) there were polish, czech, austrian nazis... american too.
Also, none of you have seen grown men collapse at Dachau crying from the horror. The german civilians didn't know what was going on- the few that did, if they tried to stand up, would have been killed themselves.
Its easy to talk big, but if it had been your life, you wouldnt have done anything.
the german language is not inherently antisemitic or evil as many people here claim. two decades of nazism maybe make people think that germans are inherently evil and dangerous but that's just succumbing to the illusion that all Germans were nazis which is not true. to now turn around and say Germans should not be allowed to enjoy this 1000 year old story in their own language is risible, if not outright intolerant and racist.
@DonMrLenny Yes, because two horrible decades out of thousands of years of history of the Germanic people means that it's ironic that a song about a story integral to a religion practiced by millions of Germans would be sung in German.
The comments out here are really stupid - i'm polish, my grandfather was in Dachau and large part of my family was killed by the germans - if someone has the right to hate them it's people like me. Yet i have no such feelings as i do not generalize history, personally speak german and see no problem with this movie (one of the best there is) to be sung in german.
Ok this is a nightmear! I like Germans, Jews and Muslems (sorry if I spell anything wrong), why can't we all get along? I know that people are mad at the Jews for living in Israel, but it's special to a lot of religions in the world and the Jews had to go somewhere after the Holocaust. God promised Israel to the Jews. Islam isn't a religion of violence. There are curtain rules for a Jihad to happen and Muslems aren't evil. Terrorists are extreme not all Muslems are like that.srry had to speek.
Why is everyone so determind to argue about something on this vid?! Now we've moved on from the Holocaust but are now talking about terrorists! What's with that?!
I'm german, and if there's one thing to be sure of.... even if I was born 50 years after the holocaust, and basically had nothing to do with it, we are the ones to hate this part of our history more than anyone not from germany can imagine...
Yeah I know what you mean! it's horrible that people blame all Germans for the crime of some corrupt men. I wish that people would realize that many Germans were innocent, most of the Germans who helped Hitler were indoctranated from the time they were young into believeing what Hitler told them, he was a very good spokesman and made it easy for people to believe them. What happened was wrong, but we should understand that that wasn't Germany, that was Hitler.
I love this song sung in German. But it saddens me to think that people keep on talking about how Germans are evil, because Germans are people just like the rest of us. The Holocaust was terrible, but it was the Nazis, not the German people. Many Germans were and are good people, but we seem to often forget that. Enjoy this music and forgive what happened in the past. Great vid! Thank you drgil7 very much!

@Smusie ja das is mir klar das du deutsch nicht nur vom lied her kennst...merkt man ja an deiner art deutsch zu schreiben ;D französisch und italienisch sind vom klang her weicher ja...aber desshalb mag ich solche sprachen grade nicht...klingt viel zu lieb xD
I know this has nothing to do with holocaust but I ask myself:Was it a little uncomfortable for Ofra Haza to sing in German? When I post this comment I want to let you know that I don't think that Ofra Haza shouldn't sing on German,I'm just asking myself and you.
@kerelenis You know, i feel discriminated ... I'm german 22 my Mom is 52 and my grandpa is over 70 and we all didn't were part of WW2 and all the stuff which belongs to it, but still it seems that we have to duck our head for being german and let us call nazis and so on... I'm just asking myself and you,is that realy ok???
Sorry!I know that today's German have nothing with holocaust, but I'm trying to put myself on Ofra Haza's place, was it a little uncomfortable for HER.I'm just asking!I mentioned because I didn't want to hurt someone, but obviously i did :(
@kerelenis No, it wasn't. Why do you think is was unconfortable for her? Just because she is a jew? 1993, she sang a duet with a german singer, Stefan Waggershausen.
You know another reason why this has nothing to do with Nazis. Not to glorify them in anyway, but the Egyptians never planned on exterminating the Hebrews. They used them as slaves. The Nazis(not the Germans) on the other hand only wanted to commit genocide against the Jews because they felt as if they were the cause of Germany's woes. Both were in the wrong however.
@duduvcd3000 attack? what attack? what are you talking about? xD sry i can´t follow you at all...there are german jews, english jews...what does it matter what language they talk in?
OK, now I have some doubts: "Are Jews a race?" (I'm not Jewish but I have two friends who are and they have nothing different from me and the rest of my friends and we're white); "Why did the germans blame Jews for the German crisis?"; "Why were they considered inferior if they were the intelligent ones scientists, mathematicians, and some entrepreneurs?"
@MasterPhilbo I like it in the hebrew version ya know? i guess cuz thats what they originaly spoke, not in the movies though but in real life back then so i think it feels more powerful. Thats just my opinion lol
I love th German language, my grandparents were Holocaust survivors. To relae this movie to that is irrelevant. Yes, it is about the oppression of the Jewish people, but considering the fact that slavery was the norm around Moses' time, it isn't comparable to Hitler's genocide. That being said, why is this ugly discussion taking place over such a beautiful movie? It's a relatable lesson for all people, no matter what ge or race. Way to go, Dreamorks <3
Most people use that as an excuse, still. That's why some Germans blame Austria for something that is not their fault. (I think that this is pretty sad. We all should learn from the past - not just one or two countries.)
The connection between this and the 1665 prosecution of London Jews is too obvious. Perhaps they should've thought twice before making an English version of this movie.
I understand your point, and while indeed true, the holocaust is incomparable to any other event in jewish history. As a jew I think the most susceptible part of our history is the holocaust.
Besides, soldiers whipping people, hassling them with "Schnell", a word that surrounds memories of people still living today, as oppose to victims of older persecutions.
I think it's insensitive to make that connection, and if you were jewish, you'd know better.
I do understand that the Holocaust is a major part of Jewish history, and I'm not saying that taking it lightly is a good thing. It's just that it seems a little harsh to condemn anything German that could be taken as a reference to the Holocaust.
I just feel that this is no more - rather, much less - offensive than Downfall, Valkyrie, or any of the other films made about the Holocaust itself. It's a Jewish story, and there are probably more Nazi sympathisers outside Germany than in it.
I'm not a Jew, but what I think is that this is a part of Jewish History because many of them died without really any cause. But that doesn't mean that Jews blame all Germans or Germany for what happened. Many Jews forgive what happened, they just remember the Holocaust just like they remember what happened to them in Egypt. Also remember that many Jews in the 30's 40's were German. I like Jews and I like Germans, can't everyone else?
why is there a connection to the holocaust? i only see a connection to the bible because the film is adapted to it and not to the holocaust.
I can understand you completely that you might feel "uncomfortable" (surely not the right word) but the germany of today is not the same as 70 years ago. my and my parent's generation didn't take part in the holocaust nor were they nazis. it's a pity that germans are still called nazis because of their history - would you call an american a slaveholder?
Actually, you've got the wrong assumption of me, or of Israel. I also don't think yourself nor the previous generation should be held culprit for the Holocaust.
That said, I think this scene portrays death camps almost seamlessly (except for it being a cartoon, and as you said, a history fable).
Germany today is nothing like it was then. But some sensibility is still appropriate.
It's nice to hear that you understand my point concerning "Germany of today". But I don't get what you want to tell me by saying "Actually, you've got the wrong assumption of me, or of Israel."
Please don't feel offended, I just want to understand what you mean, because I didn't have the feeling that I showed any (negative?) opinion about Israel nor the people living there. If so, then it wasn't my intention.
I just think that banning those films from the German TV isn't a good solution.
Just my opinion, but I think it's good that it's translated to German, since it allows German children to have exposure to Jewish myths and as they say, you can't hate those you know. It's a good teaching tool for German children, including an age appropriate tool for teaching about horrible things like slavery, or even genocide...
Totally agree with you. Some people can't separate the Germany of today from that of the 30' and 40's. And they forget that there was a Germany *before* Hitler.
I have to say, after the Hebrew version of this song, the German one sounds best.
@IIiRosiII Nobody blames Germany/Germans today for the Nazi time crimes,But letting go and saying you are free of responsibility, and blaming it on their ancestors because they are the one who did the holocaust is as bad.
Yes,descents of Germans who lived in the Nazi times should still be taking the guilt of their (Not so far) Ancestors,Whether their great parents wore a Nazi uniform or not,You should have heard about The silent majority-That's bad enough.
@idosunon You know, i feel discriminated ... I'm german 22 my Mom is 52 and my grandpa is over 70 and we all didn't were part of WW2 and all the stuff which belongs to it, but still it seems that we have to duck our head for being german and let us call nazis and so on... I'm just asking myself and you,is that realy ok???
You're wrong, many people still blame Germans for what happened. Also you're wrong that those who remained silent are as guilty as the Nazis, if they spoke up they were killed! What would you do? You couldn't stand up together because if you sai to your nextdoor neighbor "hey do you want to protest with me?" then they could hand you and your family in and then all of you would be killed. And some Germans did stand up, but they were killed most of them. I just had to say something sry
@IIiRosiII I know you wrote it over a year ago, but I still have to reply...
YOU are so RIGHT!!! I live in Israel and Im jewish, everytime someone says something like all germany are nazis (bad english I know... ) I correct him ppl here still have a hard time talking about the holocaust and german things, like I have friends who gave a hard time for finding out that I dont have a problem with germany, or german ppl... like I get why they are angry but they shouldn't be angry at german ppl today
@IIiRosiII - Eichmann created the Concentration Camps based on the Genesis story of how Pharaoh commanded the Jews to build separate cities and the "sarei misim", tax police, which he created to oppress the Jews, became the model of the police force that the Nazis created. The resemblances between the 2 events are striking when you further consider that only 20% of the Jews in Egypt were liberated by Moses and it was much less that were liberated by the Allies in 1945.
drorsimkhey was making a connection to the Holocaust because the Nazis (NOT GERMANS!) shouted raus or Juden raus meaning "out" or "Jews out". The connection is terrible because drorsimkey 1. said "germans shouting" and it was Nazis, nioot Germans! 2. This is such a beutiful song and it's the story of Moses, not of the Holocaust. 3. Why remind us of something so terrible on this vid? Hope that answers your question more fully. :)
dear drorsimkhey, unfortunately i wasn't able to check your profile, because youtube blocked it (, that's why this is the only way to answer you - i beg your pardon that this becomes more public). that your are israeli, is not important to me because in contrast to you i don't evaluate people because of their origins; i just answered to your comment which was so full of prejudices that i could vomit.
furthermore, i don't need to ask my grandparents whether they killed innocent jews, because they didn't even lived in germany to that time. my parents as well as i were not born in germany, so you have no reason to call us nazis because of our nationality - again a prejudice of yours.
you should really watch your mouth, because i never killed anybody, nor do i want to act because of prejudices like you do.
and a little secret: outside of germany there are much more nazis than inside.
I just realized how how much crap the Hebrews got....listening to this is GERMAN (emphasis on the word GERMAN) You know how not so long ago...the Germans treated the Jewish like total crap....and look at this...the Egyptians are treating the Jewish like crap too....And when I hear the overseers yelling "faster" and all that stuff in German...it really sounds kinda like I'm watching the Holocaust...but in my opinion...the Holocaust was worse cause there was actual killing...not just slavery.
actually it was the nazis ... and btw.. not only nazis treated them like crap. in every country you can find antisemitism and jewish jokes .. even in america etc. poor people .. they deserve better!
Nazi is only the shortcut for a National Socialist. And not only most germans were national socialists... . The truth is that most germans were nazis .. but not most of nazis were germans .. theres the difference. (hitler was austian btw)

I said that, because Hitler is always told a German
And thats not right.
I come from Germany
and it makes me angry that often people say he was german.
Of course, it's not the fault of Austria.
And I don't want to blame Austria because of that.
But I don't want to call Hitler one of the germans,
because he wasn't one us.

Hilter was not german..
He was born and grown up in Austria

TioittioiT 1 year ago

Most people use that as an excuse, still. That's why some Germans blame Austria for something that is not their fault. (I think that this is pretty sad. We all should learn from the past - not just one or two countries.)

Well Hitler wan't German! I don't think Austria or Germany should be blamed for what happened. It was neither's fault, it was Hitler, not a country.

The connection between this and the holocaust is too obvious. Perhaps they should've thought twice before making a German version of this movie.

The connection between this and the 1665 prosecution of London Jews is too obvious. Perhaps they should've thought twice before making an English version of this movie.
IchabodNarf 2 years ago
I understand your point, and while indeed true, the holocaust is incomparable to any other event in jewish history. As a jew I think the most susceptible part of our history is the holocaust.
Besides, soldiers whipping people, hassling them with "Schnell", a word that surrounds memories of people still living today, as oppose to victims of older persecutions.
I think it's insensitive to make that connection, and if you were jewish, you'd know better.
BluesAndJam 2 years ago
I do understand that the Holocaust is a major part of Jewish history, and I'm not saying that taking it lightly is a good thing. It's just that it seems a little harsh to condemn anything German that could be taken as a reference to the Holocaust.
I just feel that this is no more - rather, much less - offensive than Downfall, Valkyrie, or any of the other films made about the Holocaust itself. It's a Jewish story, and there are probably more Nazi sympathisers outside Germany than in it.
IchabodNarf 2 years ago 3
@IchabodNarf
LoverofHistory 2 months ago
why is there a connection to the holocaust? i only see a connection to the bible because the film is adapted to it and not to the holocaust.

IIiRosiII 2 years ago
Just my opinion, but I think it's good that it's translated to German, since it allows German children to have exposure to Jewish myths and as they say, you can't hate those you know. It's a good teaching tool for German children, including an age appropriate tool for teaching about horrible things like slavery, or even genocide...

Totally agree with you. Some people can't separate the Germany of today from that of the 30' and 40's. And they forget that there was a Germany *before* Hitler.
I have to say, after the Hebrew version of this song, the German one sounds best.
ruslanaukraine 1 year ago 3
@IIiRosiII Nobody blames Germany/Germans today for the Nazi time crimes,But letting go and saying you are free of responsibility, and blaming it on their ancestors because they are the one who did the holocaust is as bad.
Yes,descents of Germans who lived in the Nazi times should still be taking the guilt of their (Not so far) Ancestors,Whether their great parents wore a Nazi uniform or not,You should have heard about The silent majority-That's bad enough.

IIiRosiII 2 years ago
furthermore, i don't need to ask my grandparents whether they killed innocent jews, because they didn't even lived in germany to that time. my parents as well as i were not born in germany, so you have no reason to call us nazis because of our nationality - again a prejudice of yours.
you should really watch your mouth, because i never killed anybody, nor do i want to act because of prejudices like you do.
