I listened to SYL for years and Id never heard anything from Devin other than SYL... then I bought Deconstruction and was fucking blown away.. then I bought Ghost and was almost.. lulled into a sort of catatonic but excited state where it was like.. i sat and didnt really move till the album was over. I recently bought Ziltoid and though its different I felt almost the same way... This guy is fucking amazing!!!
I bought the package with deconstruction but havent listened to this one yet, cause deconstruction and the new symphonyx is constantly in my player but I think I give this album some time before I go to sleep tonight;)
One thing about Devin's music that I love and what keeps me endlessly fascinated with the man's work is that no matter how quiet, soft and melodic it is, or how heavy, chaotic and outright insane it is... There's a pure, sincere and palpable energy to it that you can't help but feel.
I can't think of any other single band - nevermind a single artist - who is capable of generating the energy Devin Townsend seems to create effortlessly.
i am confused with devy's discography on his site ghost and deconstruction aren't depicted i do see addicted and ki but those are part of a four part project or something?.
when I listen to ghost I see some dude waking up from a coma after 2 weeks. Deconstruction sounds like the kinda shit that happens in his own personal "comaland" right before he wakes up.
Listened to this album before going to sleep...amazing experience.
5 out of Ghost II's 9 tracks are now available as well. It sounds like it may shape up to be even better than Ghost. More lonely and melancholic/dark in its tone (a little closer to Ki), but still absolutely beautiful.
good review :) i have heard nothing off Ghost yet, but i'm gonna buy it with Decon day after tomorrow. Nice to hear people like it, I'm totally waiting for it
Great review, but you're talking about stuff very familiar to the effects of shrooms. Sure you not were shroomed reviewing ths? If not, must be an amazing album.
I've heard a few songs, it's incredible. Reminds me of a certain side of something unique. Much like Karl Sanders side project. It's something I'll get back to a lot. Great review.
Your review is right-on about the calmness and peacefulness that one can get from hearing this album. "Ghost 2" is the 2nd one, and it's gonna be darker than the Ghost you reviewed, yet it being from Townsend, I don't expect it to dissappoint at all :)
I'm also psyched for Epicloud, which is the next album that he's been working on as of the last month or two. Ghost 2 is already done, Devin's just working on nailing down the release details.
Wow coverkiller, excellent review. I feel that this is one of your best so far. I really enjoyed hearing your opinion of this release. I must hear this now!
Man!!!!!!!!!!! Devin is a genius. Deconstruction was the album of the year for me, but boy Devin out did his own work. point blank........ Ghost is the album of the year for me so for. Opeth & Machine Head, both of you have to step up big time to beat both of these albums. Bring on Ghost 2, please.
Coverkillernation best album reviewer on youtube? .. yea probably
Excellent review once again my friend! All points are completely valid
I hope you will conisder seeing dev live with septicflesh and obsercura. Bodom headline, altho i know you dont too much care for them anymore. but the other 3 groups is a must see! I also enjoyed you reviews on those bands as well. Keep up the great work!
dude this album rules... ive only heard it a few times and haven't gotten fully into it yet, but i can tell it is really amazing. i was listening to Terria when I starting watching this video, lol. fucking love Devin so much
I've always heard a lot of hype about Townsend, but couldn't get into him. Probably because every time I click on one of his videos I was just clicking around and was waiting for something to grab my attention (I was expecting something Opeth-esque) before I was distracted by the next related link. But after that long-ass review :) I think I just might check it out.
@makemebad35 i heard it was getting great reviews, so i knew i had to grab it and review it as soon as i could. i got honestly blindsided by just how serene and peaceful it was. i was floored. my week has been jovial because of getting featured on all those sites, but also has been very distressing and difficult on other fronts, but this album, for 73 minutes, i forgot about everything. forgot i was a reviewer, even, and just let it wash over me like an ocean wave. a true masterpiece.
brilliant review. I agree, you've put it into words perfectly. Great job. Great record too. :)

Lets be fair, Illud and St Anger weren't shit because of experimentation, they were shit because they were done extremely poorly.
Devin Townsend though really delivered something outstanding with this release :)

This album deserves the praise it gets, it is relaxing music, draws me in like Opeth does.
