The batches they do keep (and don't get SOLD) go bad in a warehouse and get dumped. Then they go out hunting for re-stock
Whilst Sea Shepherd are attempting to do a good thing, all their methods will do is increase the sympathy of the Japanese people with the whalers and thus increase the resolve of the Japanese governments to continue whaling. Their methods make the Japanese whalers look like victims when they are not and it's only through diplomatic methods that an end to whaling will finally take place.

The Sea Shepherds hit where it hurts. As we all know by now, Whales are very susceptible to toxins (just like mercury). Well, when the japanese kill a whale, the Shepherds use the legally harmless "stink bombs" to taint the meat so the whalers can't profit from it. So now they've spent the costs of fuel, salaries for their men, food & supplies, whatever licenses, and bribes... and have nothing to show for it but bankruptcy.

Whale meat is a delicacy. The japanese are NOT doing this for survival.
Whale meat sells for $64. per pound. So one Minke of 6 tons would make the whalers $768,000...
unless the meat is discovered to have high levels of mercury in it, then the heroes of Japan generously donate those batches to schools, to serve as lunches because they can't sell it.
The batches they do keep (and don't get SOLD) go bad in a warehouse and get dumped. Then they go out hunting for re-stock

Whilst Sea Shepherd are attempting to do a good thing, all their methods will do is increase the sympathy of the Japanese people with the whalers and thus increase the resolve of the Japanese governments to continue whaling. Their methods make the Japanese whalers look like victims when they are not and it's only through diplomatic methods that an end to whaling will finally take place.

The Sea Shepherds hit where it hurts. As we all know by now, Whales are very susceptible to toxins (just like mercury). Well, when the japanese kill a whale, the Shepherds use the legally harmless "stink bombs" to taint the meat so the whalers can't profit from it. So now they've spent the costs of fuel, salaries for their men, food & supplies, whatever licenses, and bribes... and have nothing to show for it but bankruptcy.
This, plus the court battles, will bring it all to an end eventually

Unfortunately as the hunt is paid for by the taxes of the Japanese people, the hunt will never go bankrupt. Only 5% of the Japanese people eat whale meat and the majority of the rest of the population aren't aware that their tax money is funding this inhumane act. Acting aggressively turns the public against SS meaning they are more likely to support the continuation of the hunt for national pride rather than acting against their government to stop it. Hence SS increase the risk of further hunts

Res 37/7 was created to make sure natural resources and nature in general where not wiped out. In some sub-sections it does allow whaling. And while the Japanese may be exploiting loop-holes in that resolution, it is up to the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to correct these loop-holes; as it is the IWC’s fault for the loop-holes in the first place.

@bidefordrfc: I personally feel like giving publicity to the issue of whaling isn't bad. Besides, it's only through publicity and general disapproval, that it can be stopped. Frankly I don't care who gets the publicity so long as it's created. About your standing metaphor, of course I can't punch you. If you are harassing me, then the only legal thing I can do is report you to the proper authorities. The reason no one helps the whalers is because they are violating the law themselves.

@bidefordrfc If I were subjected to that, and I couldn't punch back, then I would run back to my home and lock my door. This is exactly what the Japanese whalers have done. And your analogy is rather flawwed. Japan does have a "mobile phone" or means to ask for help. No one will help them because they are technically breaking international law. Also, the whalers' vessels are much faster than sea shepherd's.
