Nice playing and nice instrument...it sounds so warm ! I wander if you can tell us or not what brand is this... so please tell what temperament was used ...(meantone ?).
That is a very free sounding clavichord, a nicer sound than most I have played, although it's of course hard to tell from an online recording. Do you find you have to be extremely careful to make the notes speak? I ask because it's so wonderfully played that I imagine this is an easier clavichord to play than some.
This is very beautifully played...the suite is lovely, as are all of his suites, but this one especially so. I've played it and others on the piano for years. I think every instrument, harpsichord, clavichord, piano, brings its own charms. And each does something the others can't.
@fiandrhi Nice point. Too many get entrenched in a "better or worse" mind set with instruments which is crazy. This is great music and great playing on a fabulous instrument. Thanks for you posts Ernst!!!
This is a really nice performance again. :-) Is this a fretted instrument? I can't tell from the video. I have a large unfretted (FF-g''' instrument made by John Lyons, which has a very nice booming bass similar to this instrument.
I still prefer the hpschd but you make it work wonderfully on the clavichord as well (never heard it before on the clavichord). The instrument sounds very 'clean' and transparant.
I love the low basses in the third piece (I guess it will be a Sarabande). Thanks again for this wonderful version. They might call it the-Buxtehude-year every year when it is played that wonderful.

well clavichord playing is for most starters not easy. I am used to it, so. However care still is being asked for the top octave

Sherlock Holmes said that prominent men have prominent noses . . . will the portrait of no composer defy this?

Wow, I would love to play on a clavichord, but they are too expensive and too hard to find. Nice playing, though. How much was yours?

thanks, this music is not often heard on clavichord. In live performances it is less suitable, but in recordings great I would say.
