Because hardly anyone has ever shot a Model 500. And probably won't. What should that thing be good for? It's too weak to be an anti-tank-cannon, though it feels like one when you fire it. It's too strong to be a handgun, impractical for any actual use due to its overly heavy recoil. If anything this caliber could be used for a carbine.

Smaller guns like a very small 7mm weapon is the weapons for the citizens.

They're small, and can easily be confused with a cellphone in your pocket, the ammo can be carried in belts, or purses without occuping much space since its only 7 bullets cartridges.

All you have to do is buy empty core bullets with tungsten heads, those 7mm are very preciseful on short range, but the power is low, you although can compensate it using that kind of ammo.

The 500 S&W isn't meant to be a self-defense carry gun, it is for hunting and sport shooting. For personal defense I carry a .38 Special, something that you can have rapid follow-up shots with.

Granted, the smith and wessons in 500 magnum has just about every recoil reducing feature you can put on a revolver. But they still have tremendous recoil. I read an article in guns and ammo about power factor and it said that you can get an idea of recoil by multiplying the weight in grains of the bullet by muzzle velocity. But it doesnt factor in muzzle reducing features. It just gives you an idea of how much it might be.

A guy named Mike Binney had one at my gun club, the recoil was the worst I have ever experienced in a handgun; probably because he was having people shoot it with .500 Maximum loads (basically a higher powered, wildcatted .500 Mag).
