  • what BB size on this bike, :D just wanted to know

  • @apocrepa I don't remember the exact size...

  • the music was even better then your vid

  • mine does that, i should stop attempting wheelies i have been through three spindles, all bent, because of it and on my other mountain bike i have rounded the cranks off and now they are welded on. gonna have to replace the bottom bracket it seems.

  • My Denali bike (2009-ish, so little newer than yours) has around 500 miles on it. Should I rebuild the bottom bracket with new bearings and new grease, or should I just replace it with a sealed bearing like you? Also, how much did your new bearing cost?

  • @stydel311 If you want to rebuild it, sure...

If you want a sealed bearing, I payed around ~$25 for mine years back. The stock bottom bracket on my 2010 bike is not in the best of condition right now with a small amount of play, but it still works with 1800 miles on it.

  • Was this a Shimano UN54?

  • @Xcokedav096 The only thing that was stated on it was "Shimano SIS", so I have no clue what kind it is. It's probably the most basic Shimano system available.

  • THIS IS ONE OF THE FEW WITHOUT AUDIO EXPLANATION OR USE OF A TORQUE WRENCH. FOLKS NEED TO BE CAREFUL HOW MUCH TO TIGHTEN THE UNIT PIECES.

  • Drive side should have been tightened first.

I would have installed the drive side (it goes into the frame counterclockwise) and tightened it firmly. Next, the left side plastic ring gets threaded in (clockwise) and tightened lightly, because otherwise it cracks. There's no guarantee you've got the main cartridge in the frame properly if you do it in the order this guy did.

  • @hagenar After near 3300 miles, I've never had any issues with the BB, other than normal wear.

  • @bikegeekmtdx lucky

  • Awesome Jorts

  • @bikegeekmtdx which way does it loosen, if the bike is upright?

  • @aironalvarez I believe it loosened to the left. It's been awhile since I replaced the BB on this bike.

  • Great Vid, Entertaining Music=). Remember the size 68X1XX?

  • @bikegeekmtdx

do you remember how to take out your original bottom brack? PLZ REPLY

  • @aironalvarez It wasn't easy as I didn't have to necessary tools to properly remove it. That's why this video didn't include it.

  • @bikegeekmtdx what tools did you use to take it off? cuz i have one also and im trying to put on my bmx cranks on my bike

  • @aironalvarez I took it off the 'wrong' way. It was damaged, so I used big vise grips to get it off.

  • how did you remove the first bottom bracket at the begging of the vid

  • how did you remove the first bottom bracket at the begging of the macth

  • I have to chuckle with the music, which I love by the way. To set it to this operation is mucho comical.

  • Im about to install my shimano un54 bb and i was told to put on the left cup loosely then do the drive side tight. Tighten the cup side then retorque the drive side...

I saw that u tightenes the cup first... Is or was this the result for your clicking sound?

  • @EVOASSHOLE The left cup is installed loosely because it is plastic. The right side is what does the majority of the tightening work. The clicking sound went away soon after I started riding.

  • @RedStormRising250 It's been awhile since I installed the BB. What I did was bring the parts from the old BB to a local REI, and the bike mechanic found my the correct sized BB for this bike. The BB is a Shimano Sealed BB. It cost around $20~$30.

  • I noticed that the old BB is a different style just like mine and just want to know what size is it and what is the new BB style called

    thanks for the video

  • Pretty useless vid, and the music, please.....

  • The music is awesome, making the process of bicycle maintenance sacred and passionate -- which I really enjoy!

  • I would also like to add it looks like you put plummers pipe tape on the treads if so that is a great idea your BB want loosen up over time.....

  • Is that a Shimano BB and what kind of tool BB remover is that. Is it the Park BB-2 or BB-22 bottom bracket remover???? The reason I ask is because I see these bikes in Walmart and would like to buy one. I have some Park tools and wanted to know if the tools I have will fit this bike when I need to work on it .. Thanks

  • @troyshereforu As far as I remember, I didn't have the correct tool for getting the old BB off, so I'm not sure which model you should get...

  • You know it's a high-end road bike because it has a specialized "kick-stand" built right in! JK...I couldn't help myself...you don't see many road bikes with kick-stands so it immediately struck me as being out of place. No offense, hopefully! Cheers

  • Idiot didnt even lube it before he put it in. Why post a video of how to do it wrong. Why do you have wd40 out? that is the last thing you should use around bikes. Im sure you lubed your chain with it tooo. moron.

  • @jmblasut Excuse me??? I DID grease the threads before installing the new bottom bracket. Maybe you're the moron since you don't realize that WD40 is also considered a CLEANER. I use grease on my chain and the derailleur. I must've done it right since I haven't had ANY PROBLEMS from it for over 2500 miles. Learn your stuff before calling others morons, so you don't look like the moron.

  • 3:16 to 3:18 3:24 to 3:29 youre making it in rythm with music :D

  • How long did it take before the BB came loose again? It's practically a given when you don't use a torque wrench. Happened to me twice before I got a torque wrench.

Oh and same thing goes for Cranks; in fact even more so.

  • Jorts? Thanks for the video :)

  • Thanks for posting! For the life of me, I could not figure out how to take my bottom bracket from my old mountain bike. Purchased the wrong "Bracket Remover" tool and had to go to the shop to ask for help. Man! having the right tool for the job makes all the difference.

  • @MrGreenvision This one was a bit tricky to get off too. That's why I didn't make a video of it haha.

  • @MrGreenvision It does I had the right one but didin't read the directions for the tool and screwed one side up!

  • man!! ditch the music and simply tell us what you are doing...........

  • @thumpic The title states what I'm doing.

  • wt's the music?

  • @sukiwooty Rob Dougan - Clubbed to Death

  • @bikegeekmtdx Cheers~

  • do a video showing how to extract a bottom bracket. that can be absolute torture.

  • @kilomeister It was a real torture removing the old one off. It required measures that I don't recommend others trying, so I didn't make a video.

  • @kilomeister Loosen the crank arm bolts. Toodle around the neighborhood until you feel them loosen up. You want to stay within easy walking distance of home. I had the same problem with my first dept store bike. The bb used in the inexpensive are, well, very inexpensive.

There is a crank pulling tool. It will usually strip out the pulling threads on the dept store bikes without pulling the cranks.

  • @kilomeister these deore BB's cannot actually seize because when you start to loosen it the whole cartridge rotates and frees up by itself.

  • GMC Denali Road Bike = Walmart bike.......

  • @lilrick98 GMC Denali Road Bike =/= Walmart Bike... does not have "WM" in the model number, and is sold at other stores besides walmart.

  • @lilrick98 better than no bike

  • This bike is sold on-line thru Target.

Anyhow, which Shimano BB model did you install, the UN-54 ? I want to do this for my Vilano SS/FG track bike, it has a BB that makes a clunk when the left crank arm is at the 1 o'clock position and moving downward thru that power stroke, it vibrates thru the whole bike, being a Hi Ten frame, it's rough and ruins the bike ride of any enjoyment. Mine doesn't have any play in the crank spindle like yours, still rides and doesn't bind any. Cheap bikes ?

  • drive side goes in first and then the non drive cups go on. looks like you forgot grease or antisieze compound n the threads

  • I greased inside the threads on the bike's frame. before I installed it. It has worked fine ever since I installed it. I've put around 500 miles on the bike with the new BB without any problems.

  • Thanks for the step by step, by the way what is this song from?

  • The song is Rob Dougan - Clubbed to Death

  • Thanks for the review! I ordered this bike on Amazon for only $140. Its gonna arrive on Tuesday and I'm really exited!
