the only problem is her analogy-about being married to a doctor(would'nt Policeman make more sense?)but that is the screenwriters deal,Kidder and Reeve play it beautifully-the best moment of Richard Lester's footage i think
@Oceanpacifica1968 umm yea they did, watch superman returns? and yea that movie is part of the franchise and movies, despite the 30+ yrs, and wtf, u on ur period?? dont take ur anger out on my cuz ur mommy sent u 2 ur room, calm ur tits, srsly
i saw this classic yesterday on cable for the umpteenth time....this will always be most favorite Superman movie of all time - i still remember the anticipation and excitement that i had as a kid for the whole week leading up to the day when i went to watch it at the theaters!
I did not even remember this scene at that time - but now after all these years ,i find this scene so beautiful and natural that it does not look like acting... great stuff.
Simply one of the best part of Superman cinema and I am really glad you edited out the amnesia kiss. I believe the amnesia kiss is a poor excuse, lack of creativity on the writers (sorry but that's my opinion), and wiping someones memory is terrible human rights violation.
I've seen this movie a gazillion times as a teen in the 80's, so I don't know if anyone else noticed that this scene is edited. After Lois says "I'm jealous of the whole world" at 1:47 Clark supposed to say, "Lois, It may not be easy for you to hear this now, but someday you'll..." Lois interrupts, "Clark, look. Don't tell me that I'll meet somebody. You're kind of a tough act to follow, you know?" Then she says "now I'm gonna be fine..."
I had a massive crush on Christopher Reeve at the time.
i preferred this ending rather than the RD ending when Clark and Lois are talking about ordering pizza. She wanted him more than anything, but knew they'd never have a future because of his obligation to the people. I kind of know how she feels wanting someone so bad and you can't have them.
@xIegionx i was merely referring to the last moment in the movie when he returns the flag back to the WH. That scene, as you know, was not in the DC. In my opinion, it made more sense for her to be very emotional over the breakup like she was in the LC when she and clark were in her office. In the DC when she and Superman were at the Fortress of Solitude after he blew it up, she was more understanding and less emotional over it.
@msmithstud DC? He did pace the flag in DC, even though it might not have actually been filmed there (which is common in movies).LC?
But in this scene it wasn't really a break up, she was just sad that she couldn't always have him, which is why he wiped her memory, or in the Richard Donner cut, didn't.
I think this could be the greatest scene in a movie I've ever seen. The emotions that are running are incredible, and the honesty of Lois is just remarkable when she's like "I am jealous when it comes to you, I'm jealous of the whole world". Call it love, great movie writing or whatever, but there interaction in this scene is incredible.
This may be Margot Kidder's finest moment as Lois.

@msmithstud RD ending? Wasn't the RD ending the same, in which she doesn't lose her memory?
