Arnold should not have won that Olympia!!! Mike should have/ he looked so much better then Arnold... It was all political!!! No way should Mike have placed 5th!!! He trained for 10 months to prep for Sydney! and Arnold just swoops in day b4 comp... RIP Mike!!!
Let's see now ... Weider hand picks the judges. And the winner is ... the guy Weider had under contract to promote his products. Coincidence, no doubt.
@SeisanStnc Have to remember most bodybuilders were inder contract with Weider...even Mike M worked for Weider writing articles until they had a fall out.
it's also fair to say that Ahhnold wiped the decade of 70s competition clean.. even though he retired in '75 & came back 5yrs later in lesser shape, he still won the '80 title..could u freakin imagine how easily he would've destroyed everyone in the '76-'79 title if he were competing/training full time then? In the history of body building, Ahhnold is God!
Hate on arnold all you want, He entered this competition LATE! into his training..alot of people doubted him and he knew he was in trouble on the plane ride to the comp. He is not the arnold in 75 with his leaner 225 frame. BUT personally..his political connections..and his ability to show off that chest, tri, and bi combination..(which still isnt matched to this day!) got him the win..it seem like arnold was just over all evened out in the past..serg had a waist..but still needed sculpting.
god mike just was not as good. He just wasn't yeah he developed heavy duty training but to back it up with what? and olympia win, nope. Sure Dorian has 6, but even he modified with a little more volume
@jessedabody I bet u got that impression from watching Pumping Iron, right? Well, u should also watch Pumping Iron Raw. Its abt the making of Pumping Iron. There u'll find out that most of his words were scripted to 'sensationalise' the movie. Most of what was said wasn't true..
Mike had the whole package. Arnold looked like an "exquisite corpse" of ill-matching body parts. Rest in peace Mike, your contributions to the sport and fitness in general will be remembered for generations as Arnold's reputation continues to tarnish.
even if Mike was beaten unfairly, what stopped him from working just as hard and winning it the year after? if he had half the tennasity of Arnold and the motivation to try again when he got beaten, like Arnold, maybe he would have come out on top in 1982. but what did he do? he had a winge about it being unfair, threw his bowl of chicken off his high chair, bitched about HVT training some more and didn't bother entering again due to one bad competition. these are hardly a champions qualities.
@sambainy You really think things would have been any different for Mentzer one year later??
They gave it to Franco a year later, with serious gyno and no legs,in addition to the usual golf ball biceps etc, ahead of Padilla looking fantastic and Platz too,in his best ever shape.
Placing Mentzer in fifth place in '80 really was a bad joke.
Its funny how Mike and other people bitched about how he got robbed losing to Arnold, but he placed 5th in that show, not second LOL. So he shoulda bitched at 4 other people not just one.
@Bigbriansc Zane threw his trophy to the ground outside. A few of them felt the whole event had been brought into disrepute because Arnie had broken the rules about entering late and had the judges in his pocket. Putting Mike in 5th made the fix even more obvious as he certainly at least deserved second. Arnie has said he wanted to show Mentzer that he couldn't get away with criticizing his methods - Arnie wasn't man enough to respect Mikes opinion and enter a reasonable debate with him.
@Bigbriansc seems like there were two parts to this scandal, giving arnold the win, and Mike getting shafted with 5th. Definitely Zane and Dickerson placing 3rd and 2nd were also gifts. Top 3 were Mike, ARnold and Boyer. Now that Arnold has confessed to cheating on his wife, perhaps it would be appropriate for him to come clean on this other scandal from the past, if he (and/or Joe Weider) had a role in fixing the results of this contest.
i do believe it was frank zane who defeated arnold in a contest when he first came over from austria. zane had much more definition than arnold, which was a big lesson for arnold.
@vinnynumbnuts for sure zane beat him, thats why Arnold entered the 1980 just to beat Zane. Zane had a freak accident and cut his urethra. Arnold told him to enter he looked great but he was injured.
"Arnold lost weight on this contest, but it's enough to win. This guys they hasn't the chest of arnold...the biceps, the calves, the back. And the most important thing....PROPORTION-SYMETRY!!!"
That's an interesting point of view, personally I feel Arnold upper and lower body belong to two different people
Sure Mentzer didn't have Biceps and Pectorals to match Arnolds but proportionally Arnold was all over the place, one of the judges, Bill Pearl to this day doesn't know how Arnold won this.
Arnold was Weider's main squeeze so of course he would come out on top. I should know having worked for Weider back in '76 at his Erwin Street offices in Woodland Hills. That giant painting of Arnold hanging in the lobby was there for a reason.
If I'm not mistaken, that was the year Arnold had promised that the new Mr. Olympia would guest pose at his pro-Mr. Universe contest in Columbus. I was there and recall that he was booed while onstage when he refused to pose. To be fair to Arnold, I think he was pressured into entering that Mr. O......
@jamieA1A Arnold wouldn't let himself get pressured into anything (he was sure of himself). Some of the guys who were about to participate in that year's Olympia had been talking smack behind Arnold's back, how he don't have what it takes to rival the new participants, because he has been off for 5 years (now it's kool, he doesn't have the motivation, now it's safe we can talk down on him), but they hadn't anticipated that he would make a comeback - i think they were scared of the thought! :)
Found out some interesting stuff about this which I didnt know until now, taken from an interview with Mike Mentzer. Arnold had very close ties, both friendship, and financial with all the judging panel of this Olympia apparently. And the organiser, was a very close friend of his too. Usually contestants have to enter, 1 month before to get in. Arnold entered the DAY before..and was allowed in. This way, he knew which judges were on, before competing. Hmmm...
@jlebesis Yeah, but one must also consider that Arnold only had 7-8 weeks to prepare, while Mike probably had trained hard most of the year leading up to the show. Arnold still managed to bring enough mass & cuts to be a real contender and to edge the others out, despite the uneven preparation time between the two. He didn't have to be a 100% to be a contender for #1 spot, 80 was enough, cause he already had a headstart much thanks to having a better frame and structure than the other guys.
@jlebesis according to Zane, the head judge told Arnold he was disqualified but Arnold refused to go down from the stage.. the next day the head judge was fired..
@Roper122 He was awarded the Olympia....But he didn,t win it....Mentzer was the best on stage...BTW Arnold got booed off stage when he was announced winner....that might tell you something
I am a fan of Arnie but he probably deserved 5th in the 1980 Mr Olympia. Had he had his 1974 shape he would have deserved to win. Going by mass, proportion etc Mike Mentzer should have won but he got 5th !!! There were quite a few guys in better shape than Arnie in this one, I don't understand why he wanted to come out of retirement?
mike was definitely better here. his entire physique was in proportion - his back was thicker and more defined, his legs to body ratio was ideal. pause at 2:34 - you could literally draw a V on mikes back. despite carrying more mass, his waist was equal to frank zanes. arnolds biceps and chest were as good as ever, but his triceps, forearms, and legs were lacking (compared to the others, not compared to mere mortals...)
@jessedabody yeah your right i guess i got a bit carried away with that one, but considering how much more mass he had than Zane, its not too far away. by the way, I have always considered Frank Zanes physique to be the best in bodybuilding history
That could be said which Zane had as much right to win there as did Mike. But Its clear that Arnolds chest wasnt even as big as it was in 75. Arnold over all looked great in 75. He was undersized in 80 where as mentzer had all the size and the def. Zane obviously is always just a steller look but Mike Prop should have won that year.
@2010nerazzurri well man, i hate this controversy about mike mentzer vs. arnold in 1980, you should all see arnold vs. mentzer in 1974, where he CRUSHED MENTZER.
@2010nerazzurri Man, it is so difficult when all look so good. But let's face it. Joe Weider and Arnold built bodybuilding. There is no way at that point Arnold would be allowed to lose. I think Mentzer looked better than Arnold on that day. But just my opinion. Did this extend to Franco winning two more Mr. Os? What about Mentzer losing to Zane in 79? It is just one of the problems with a great sport. It depends on judges. But thanks to whoever posted this stuff. It is great!
@cesar1963able i think the posedown was the problem. He kept watching what franks was doing, and hasteily trying to match his pose for pose and overshadow him. Frank just looked off into the crowd and posed. It made frank look superior. Thas part of the beauty of the performance side of bodybuilding IMO.
@2010nerazzurri ummmm, no. mike had no chest, his thighs were not bigger than arnolds, better hams, thats it. mikes back was not thicker, look at all the pics, arnold dwarfs mike.i like mikes tri's and forearms, thats it.
The 1980 Mr. Olympia was definitely fixed. The promoter of that contest was Paul Graham, a very, very close friend of Arnold's. As it turned out, while the rules stated that individuals had to officially enter their application to compete one month before the contest, the IFBB bent the rule and let Arnold enter the day before! He waited that long because by that point he knew who the judges were.
@toastm4n A 6 time Mr Olympia winner....of course they are going to let him in.....I would expect them to bend the rule for "ANY" Mr Olympia winner current or past.
arnold beats them all easily..hes just the perfect size along with his height..just resembles a greek god..others are too short for such big muscles..arnie was just better built and defined
@ayaazcyclops Although Arnold wasn't at his biggest or most ripped....he brought enough to the table to edge out the other competitors I thought in my humble opinion.
@Hititnow1 Mike was in great condition....did he deserve 5th place? NO, he was robbed on placing...having said that....I personally don't think Mike was at his best...if you look at prior years there's pic's out there when he looked absolutely fantastic.
The footage is so unclear and horrible because of CBS. IMO, mike mentzer should have won, after this olympia, mike forever remained bitter about the loss to arnold, and would go his own way
Mike definitely had a great physique and was certainly dense in his muscularity. Arnold had that softer look to him with the fine muscle striations.
I believe Arnold and Mentzer had a bust up after this. This contest could have been rigged due to Mentzer's HIT method which Arnold didn't like, I'm not completely sure. Some of the HIT certainly does work indeed.
I think that Arnold have a smooth volume muscles, as Mike have a volume too and relief, good relief. Just Arnold was younger than Mike and jury has given a medal for Arnold.
ARNOLDS HAMSTRINGS WERE TOO SMALL. HE WASNT COMPLETE AS IN PREVIOUS OLYMPIAS. HIS USUAL WEIGHT WAS 235LBS..HE CAME IN THIS SHOW AT 10LBS LESS AND IT SHOWED. TO ME..TO BE HONEST..THE SHOW WAS BETWEEN MENTZER AND DICKERSON. ALL THE MOVIES HES STARTED DOING AFFECTED ARNOLDS PREPARATION. HE HAD TO COME DOWN TO 210LBS FOR THE MOVIE THE VILLAN AND DESIDED AT THE LAST MINUTE TO COMPETE..HE SHOULDVE LOST THAT ONE.
Arnold although not at his best, was still THE BEST. Sorry competition. His body was just made for bodybuilding, way more than anyone competing. He could be 60% of his best and still win because of that.
I was at that Olympia and what struck me about Schwarzenegger was his personality - he was bigger than life and he just took over. Mentzer was in top shape but didn't have the personality of Arnold.
arnold was good. But Mike was the best...........His philosophies had a greater depth and scientific correctness which arnold and weider philosophies were lacking......A true bodybuilder he has been written in golden words in the books of bodybuilding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
look you guys it was't about about size all the time, thats now.... not then sure size was a mazing back then but if you look Fran Z he wasn't bigger than all of this guys and won 3 Olypias. Sure Arnold could have been in better shape but he still put on the show. He still brought in the crawd he expose bodybuilding. Back then any body builder could have taking the crown, it was also about your attitude your confidence, exc...
This was Mentzers day and arnold stole it from him. Thats what drove him to lose his mind. Hey in his prime knowbody could touch Arnold but he was off in 80 and everybody knows it
@TheChrislimo I agree with you. I looked at many tapes of this show and still believe Mike was a better finished product. As far as size Arnold as to be bigger he's 6" taller then Mike . mikes arms are more complete Arnies Triceps and forams are just not there. backs Mikes is thicker but not larger again tall man versus short man ...Mike deserved the victory but hey he was never a real Weider boy and I really don't think they wanted to take a chance with him and their product line.
Correct, there was no way the IFBB aka Weider was going to let Nautilus exponents like Sergio, Mike or Caey Viator get an Olympia. At least Casey got a few before Arnold was on the scene big time.
@SYNERGISTIC123 absolutely right, Heres mentzer saying only train twice or even once a week, and no need for ludicrous amounts of supplements! Mike was the devil incarnate to the bodybuilding establishment
@jessedabody Thanks Jess,i think its about two years old now.I haven't trained for about three months, too busy with pups. Its going to be hard getting back into it,those first couple of weeks are a killer!
Believe me im one of the biggest arnold fans there is, hes my hero! But mentzers presentation was put together just so much more artistically and professionally than his or anyones for that matter, i just dont see how he could have taken fifth.
@X1Stryker1X Yes, I don't know about 5th place....I remember when the Muscle and fitness mag came out with the Olympia report for 1980...I still thought Arnold pulled it off by the skin of his teeth...but I was more drawn to Boyer than Mike....I thought Boyer looked way better.
That's even funnier than any Arnold comment Jesse. Boyer Coe? The turtle shell shape back, forearms and triceps not in the same league as Mentzer, nor abs. No outer quad sweep, none at all, carrot shape quads. Boyer Coe got the biggest gift of all the 80 contestants, even Arnold. Other than Mentzer the guy who got shafted the most was Roy Callendar.
@jessedabody He took fifth because of the threat he posed to the bodybuilding community through his high intensity method. His method of less frequency through more intense workouts and the possibility that someone could achieve thier goals without going to the gym as often hit a nerve with the businesses involved. In addition, Arnold with his reputation for playing the crowds with his charm and magnetism pretty much made hiim an abassador of the sport.
@X1Stryker1X Good to hear that from an Arnold fan, Usually they are Arnold is the best always has been and still is. Thanks for not being like that. Mike did a great job and was punished for his mouth.
@X1Stryker1X do u like Frank Zane .Arnold has the second finest body all time.Think Zane have the greates body all time.Jay Cutler and Ronnie Coleman to mush drugs and no symitree
To this day (and I've never missed an O) I still believe Mentzer got f---ed. He is the true uncrowned Mr. Olympia. If Arnold would have been at his 1973 condition, there would have been no doubt. But he wasn't. Period.
Sometimes it's sad to see some of the best body builders in the world didn't placed as they were suppose to be. Look AT FLEX WHEELER, He had to be MR. O. For a long time, Kevin deserved at least to be 2 time MR. O. SHAWN RAY, he was robbed as well. We gotta change some of the judges to make justice. I never seen any proportion in DORIAN, how come he was champ? Dorian was massive it's true, but how???? HIS stomach alone weighed about 80 pounds. So What. On this video, Mike vs Arnold=Arnold.
Maybe Arnold looked a little worse than some other contestants but there wasn't much in it. It's not like he showed up weighing 180 pounds and they let him win
Myself personally, I would like to have Mike's build over Arnolds because I find Mike looks more powerful because of his wider and thicker waist. It jsut seems more powerful to me.
Man hands down arnold wins. But 6-8 years ago arnold was so much bigger when he was so much younger. its weird. most guys keep getting bigger, but he shrunk. he barely won this one. He was looking better than them, just the arnold mass wasnt quite there.
@WaffulsS That's what I thought too. He was way off from his shape like in between 73-75. And that's why I still believe Mentzer should've won this one for sure and that the contest was rigged.
For all those who think of some conspiracy theory about Arnold's victory in 80 just should open their eyes and realise that Arnold was the best among guys.Enough just to look at the line up.Not just his overall body but every aspect or every pose of him won.The judges weren't blind
@pumping2 There were a lot of Bodybuilders under contract with Weider on that stage that day, Zane being the current Mr. O. Everybody wants to make it a conspiracy theory because their guy lost, the bottom line is Arnold was not at his best, but still in good enough condition to beat out the rest. I have to laugh when people want to make Mike out to have 1 or 2 flaws, some say no flaws lmfao...he had more than that, and became real glaring standing in-between Arnold and Frank Zane.
@jessedabody what flaws did mike have besides his attitude and not being as ...ahhem... "close" to Weider" as the others? I agree Mike's back, biceps and chest were not quite as big as Arnold's. Mike still deserved to win here. I don't know how Dickerson finished 2nd and Zane 3rd either. Zane had shrunk a lot from 79 so I say he should have been 5th, Dickerson 4th, Coe 3rd, Arnold 2nd. However, trophies would have been thrown no matter what.
@lakeerie90s Besides biceps and no chest ..his abs were ripped but still stuck out unless it was a overhead vacuum shot. His lower back was soft and he had hips and a big booty which was glaring when standing next to other competitors......also Mikes legs were ripped and big, but formless. If anything Boyer Coe should have been pissed he looked better Mike.
@jessedabody: Mike's legs were in proportion to upper body unlike Arnold's and Mike's arm was complete with a huge tricep unlike Arnold's arms which were all bicep. As far as waistline goes, Arnold was thickwaisted and his stomach wasnt fully ripped for this show. Mike was hard as hell for this show, while arnold needed a couple more weeks to prep. Don't you think there is very little CLEAR footage of the 1980 O, and where the hell is the good clear footage of the 80 O shot by CBS Sports??
@pumping2 Having said that...I respect Mike and his principles, but will always be a volume trainer using heavy duty methods. I love the feel of the pump...HIT just doesn't do it for me ,but may do it for somebody else which I respect...You need to find out what works for you and stick with it...and when your routine gets stale...change it up with any number of methods of training.
@awesomebrody Here's my take on it..Although Arnold wasn't his most massive...he still was in good enough condition to pull out the 80 O....when posing his arms, delts, traps, calfs, chest, upper and especially lower back still looked ripped....now people complain about Arnolds thighs and hamstring muscles His legs were not as bad as people want to play them up as. Part of Mikes demise was his blowup in front of judges before the contest, Very poor judgment on Mikes part.
I'm so glad that this video exists. I used to think that Arnold's win for the 1980 Mr Olympia was a fluke. Needless to say, comparing him to Mentzer, Zane, and Dickerson, he took them all. He was the better man. More definition, mass, and yes, even symmetry. He really deserved the Sandow. And the fact that it seems he was no bigger than 215-220 instead of 235 like he was in 1975, it is even more impressive.
Symmetry, symmetrically top heavy with biceps and pecs and nothing else.
There was nothing impressive about Arnold here, if he was not a Weider boy and sans his buddies judging he would have been 4th or 5th. Other than pecs, Mentzer destroyed him. And by the way I met both of them on separate occasions a few months after the Sydney debacle and Arnold in a smeat suit looked PUNY.
@SYNERGISTIC123 Meeting him months later says nothing SYNER...he may not of worked out....could have dropped 20 pounds to do a movie.......meeting months later doesn't tell the story:P
We have to agree to disagree on that one Jesse. He must have went off the gear on October 5th 1980, he had legs like Ivan Lendl (mo offense inteded to Ivan, my favorite all-time male tennis player, lol) I think it was at the time he did the workout videos with Rachel McLeish, when she said he was a sex pest. Dropped 20 pounds, dropped 50+. And he was meant to guest pose, broke his word, reminiscent of the Universe in 80 when he also never posed. Never mind.
@SYNERGISTIC123 P.S there's a lot of wrestlers I've met over the years.....there look huge on TV but in real life......in good shape but I was bigger than some of them lmao
If you met him & looked the way he did, is because he was not ready for competition. I don't have to defend Arnold here, because he has done more with his life than many folks combined. And it had nothing to do w/him being a Weider boy. Lou Ferrigno was a Weider boy. Larry Scott was a Weider boy. So was Sergio. Being a Weider boy could only do so much. The rest is up to the individual after that.
He was not ready on October 4th 1980 either but with all his buddies judging it made no difference. And I am by no means an Arnold hater, if you look at a cross section of my posts you'll see I give Arnold the enormous credit he is due, but not in 1980.
@Farshad86 Bodybuilders have to flex and hold poses for 20 seconds while standing next to other ... which is a natural diuretic to push water out of the body. A fact.
Those judges were just retarded. If you pause the video starting at 2:31 and go clip to clip to 3:02 Mentzer was definately the best BBer that day. He was thick and define.

@Bigbriansc seems like there were two parts to this scandal, giving arnold the win, and Mike getting shafted with 5th. Definitely Zane and Dickerson placing 3rd and 2nd were also gifts. Top 3 were Mike, ARnold and Boyer. Now that Arnold has confessed to cheating on his wife, perhaps it would be appropriate for him to come clean on this other scandal from the past, if he (and/or Joe Weider) had a role in fixing the results of this contest.

vrs195927 10 months ago
i do believe it was frank zane who defeated arnold in a contest when he first came over from austria. zane had much more definition than arnold, which was a big lesson for arnold.
vinnynumbnuts 10 months ago
@vinnynumbnuts for sure zane beat him, thats why Arnold entered the 1980 just to beat Zane. Zane had a freak accident and cut his urethra. Arnold told him to enter he looked great but he was injured.

Mike Mentzer's abs showed up better than Arnold's.
StephenB58 10 months ago
"Arnold lost weight on this contest, but it's enough to win. This guys they hasn't the chest of arnold...the biceps, the calves, the back. And the most important thing....PROPORTION-SYMETRY!!!"
That's an interesting point of view, personally I feel Arnold upper and lower body belong to two different people
Sure Mentzer didn't have Biceps and Pectorals to match Arnolds but proportionally Arnold was all over the place, one of the judges, Bill Pearl to this day doesn't know how Arnold won this.
61Andyc 10 months ago
Arnold was Weider's biggest money maker. He was by far the most popular bodybuilder thus he was a shoe in to win. It's that simple.
shinshoryuken 10 months ago
Arnold was Weider's main squeeze so of course he would come out on top. I should know having worked for Weider back in '76 at his Erwin Street offices in Woodland Hills. That giant painting of Arnold hanging in the lobby was there for a reason.
onirannam 10 months ago
Arnold actually looks skinny. He has no triceps or legs.
MrWarmachine3 10 months ago
If I'm not mistaken, that was the year Arnold had promised that the new Mr. Olympia would guest pose at his pro-Mr. Universe contest in Columbus. I was there and recall that he was booed while onstage when he refused to pose. To be fair to Arnold, I think he was pressured into entering that Mr. O......
jamieA1A 10 months ago
@jamieA1A Arnold wouldn't let himself get pressured into anything (he was sure of himself). Some of the guys who were about to participate in that year's Olympia had been talking smack behind Arnold's back, how he don't have what it takes to rival the new participants, because he has been off for 5 years (now it's kool, he doesn't have the motivation, now it's safe we can talk down on him), but they hadn't anticipated that he would make a comeback - i think they were scared of the thought! :)
Farshad86 10 months ago
so was it rigged or what? I heard Mr. Heavy Duty went crazy after this.
ShookOne92 10 months ago
@ShookOne92 nobody knows for sure, but there were a few things about the contest that seemed strange
1. Many of the judges were friends of Arnold's
2. Arnold broke the rules to enter
3. CBS refused to air the contest
I think Arnold deserved to win, but who knows...

Hmmm...
jlebesis 11 months ago
@jlebesis Yeah, but one must also consider that Arnold only had 7-8 weeks to prepare, while Mike probably had trained hard most of the year leading up to the show. Arnold still managed to bring enough mass & cuts to be a real contender and to edge the others out, despite the uneven preparation time between the two. He didn't have to be a 100% to be a contender for #1 spot, 80 was enough, cause he already had a headstart much thanks to having a better frame and structure than the other guys.
Farshad86 11 months ago
@jlebesis according to Zane, the head judge told Arnold he was disqualified but Arnold refused to go down from the stage.. the next day the head judge was fired..

@Gekwu565 Part of MIkes downfall was posing right next to Zane.........Zane showed off all of Mike's weakness as did Arnold.
jessedabody 6 months ago
That could be said which Zane had as much right to win there as did Mike. But Its clear that Arnolds chest wasnt even as big as it was in 75. Arnold over all looked great in 75. He was undersized in 80 where as mentzer had all the size and the def. Zane obviously is always just a steller look but Mike Prop should have won that year.
Bigturns33 5 months ago
@2010nerazzurri well man, i hate this controversy about mike mentzer vs. arnold in 1980, you should all see arnold vs. mentzer in 1974, where he CRUSHED MENTZER.
slipknotrulz67 1 year ago
@2010nerazzurri Man, it is so difficult when all look so good. But let's face it. Joe Weider and Arnold built bodybuilding. There is no way at that point Arnold would be allowed to lose. I think Mentzer looked better than Arnold on that day. But just my opinion. Did this extend to Franco winning two more Mr. Os? What about Mentzer losing to Zane in 79? It is just one of the problems with a great sport. It depends on judges. But thanks to whoever posted this stuff. It is great!
cesar1963able 7 months ago
@cesar1963able i think the posedown was the problem. He kept watching what franks was doing, and hasteily trying to match his pose for pose and overshadow him. Frank just looked off into the crowd and posed. It made frank look superior. Thas part of the beauty of the performance side of bodybuilding IMO.

Some of the HIT certainly does work indeed.

jessedabody 1 year ago
That's even funnier than any Arnold comment Jesse. Boyer Coe? The turtle shell shape back, forearms and triceps not in the same league as Mentzer, nor abs. No outer quad sweep, none at all, carrot shape quads. Boyer Coe got the biggest gift of all the 80 contestants, even Arnold. Other than Mentzer the guy who got shafted the most was Roy Callendar.
SYNERGISTIC123 1 year ago
@jessedabody yeah arnold had it..just

@jessedabody He took fifth because of the threat he posed to the bodybuilding community through his high intensity method. So What. On this video, Mike vs Arnold=Arnold.

pumping2 1 year ago
@pumping2 There were a lot of Bodybuilders under contract with Weider on that stage that day, Zane being the current Mr. O. Everybody wants to make it a conspiracy theory because their guy lost, the bottom line is Arnold was not at his best, but still in good enough condition to beat out the rest. I have to laugh when people want to make Mike out to have 1 or 2 flaws, some say no flaws lmfao...he had more than that, and became real glaring standing in-between Arnold and Frank Zane.
jessedabody 1 year ago
@jessedabody what flaws did mike have besides his attitude and not being as ...ahhem... "close" to Weider" as the others? I agree Mike's back, biceps and chest were not quite as big as Arnold's. Mike still deserved to win here. I don't know how Dickerson finished 2nd and Zane 3rd either. Zane had shrunk a lot from 79 so I say he should have been 5th, Dickerson 4th, Coe 3rd, Arnold 2nd. However, trophies would have been thrown no matter what.
lakeerie90s 1 year ago
@lakeerie90s Besides biceps and no chest ..his abs were ripped but still stuck out unless it was a overhead vacuum shot. His lower back was soft and he had hips and a big booty which was glaring when standing next to other competitors......also Mikes legs were ripped and big, but formless. If anything Boyer Coe should have been pissed he looked better Mike.
jessedabody 1 year ago
@jessedabody: Mike's legs were in proportion to upper body unlike Arnold's and Mike's arm was complete with a huge tricep unlike Arnold's arms which were all bicep. As far as waistline goes, Arnold was thickwaisted and his stomach wasnt fully ripped for this show. Mike was hard as hell for this show, while arnold needed a couple more weeks to prep. Don't you think there is very little CLEAR footage of the 1980 O, and where the hell is the good clear footage of the 80 O shot by CBS Sports??

@pumping2 Having said that...I respect Mike and his principles, but will always be a volume trainer using heavy duty methods. awesomebrody 1 year ago

OtorresFitness 1 year ago
Symmetry, symmetrically top heavy with biceps and pecs and nothing else.
There was nothing impressive about Arnold here, if he was not a Weider boy and sans his buddies judging he would have been 4th or 5th. Other than pecs, Mentzer destroyed him. And by the way I met both of them on separate occasions a few months after the Sydney debacle and Arnold in a smeat suit looked PUNY.

We have to agree to disagree on that one Jesse.
