  • Poem The Creation by James Weldon Johnson

  • ALL PRAISES AND THANKS ARE DUE TO THE CREATOR OF THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH, HE IS SUPREME IN GLORY....THE MOST HIGH, THE MERCIFUL BENEFACTOR THE MERCIFUL REDEEMER....none of the WORDS in the english language or in any language can best describe who GOD is..so as I express my gratitude I just want to say THANK YOU GOD FOR BEING WHO YOU ARE!

  • watched the dvd called Earth all about our ,earth beautiful way God designed the whole thing,,, since its the beautifully awesome on DVD makes me get excited to see Heaven.

  • Gotta love Wintley Phipps! God bless you, sir!

  • Isn't God so Awesome... He says... It happens.

  • Since God is a Spirit whom we have not seen, I am not sure that picturing 'HIM' as a man is anywhere near factual..... This is God, Creator of numberless world's of whom we speak . However I understand and appreciate the imagery and Pastor Phipp's sincere oratory... Amen

  • Your voice is so special< God Bless you!!Praise be to God!!

  • I have not heard this since I was a young man. I believe it was done by Fred Waring on a TV special and on an album. Have looked for the album but can find no record of it since I am not sure of the name. Both of these are very moving. Thanks for uploading this.

  • @lorrenbmo The original poem he's reading is "The Creation" by James Weldon Johnson, a black poet from the Jacksonville, Florida area who wrote and published before the era known as the Harlem Renaissance. He wrote in black dialect as well as standard and created other great poems like "Mother Night" and "Go Down, Death."

  • This mortal man is truly a gifted man of the Lord, as importantly to all who understand not the "things" of the Glory of our Lord, Pastor Phipps weaves color and fabric of Him to all.

    Rev. David

I ride not on his coat-tals, but he helps me look and feel as I have never felt before, nice work Reverand, nice work,, or yet, "calling".

  • great!!! just awesome!

hoover please write down the words for me! or whoever wants to do that.

    I'd be thankful!

  • Thank you Pastor Phipps.

  • No hay otro como Dios!!! Artista de artistas, el único Creador, Rey de reyes y Señor de señores!! Seas exaltado por la eternidad Dios!!!

  • great!!!!

  • Thank You

  • im not religious but i could listen to this all day

  • It gave me goosebumbs and tears came to me!

  • Love it!!!

  • wonder man wonderful voice. just saw him on 1979"s tribute to minnie rippertom on soul train . Glad to see he is still active.

  • I love his voice and the way he speaks of the ceation of the universe. I dont know that God was ever lonely though. He had the Word and the Holy Spirit, and He had His angels.

  • He is reciting a poem "The Creation" by James Weldon Johnson.

  • I think that's what God sounds like... :-)

  • Happy Sabbath to all of you and may His blessings be upon you, take heart in these troubled times, Jesus is coming back!

  • GOD IS GREAT

    Smile JESUS LOVES YOU

  • "...then God said, 'That's GOOooood'," Lol. Oh God that was great :)

  • What an awesome God we have! And yet, none of this beauty can comapre with the beauty and majesty of Jesus! Phipps is awesome! Love this and his rendition of "Go down, death"

  • Amen.

I Can only imagine what it was like at the time he made universe.

  • He got the potential to be a Great Pastor of this Generation. He still not as known as say T.D. Jakes or Kenneth Copeland.

  • He is a wonderful Griot, touched by the ancestors.

  • He's not as famous as those folks because he is a man of God. Jakes and Copeland are men of earthly riches. The camel can not get through the eye of an needle and those type preachers do not know Jesus, his words or his works; Phipps does.

  • He's a Seventh-Day Adventist Pastor

  • i love his voice!..its so rumbly!...i ahve to recite this for a competition in a couple of weeks...though i could never make my voice that rumbly or deep lol

  • And man became a living soul ! Thank you Father God for saving this soul, thank you Father Thank you. Love to here this man of God tell a story. Goose bumps

  • I love his "version of creation".......I can just picture this........

I once worked at a place where there was a fellow with a speaking voice just like Wintley's (and James Earl Jones), and the fellow was always having people comment on the richness of it........

    Truly a gift!

  • Hey wow i have to do this for a competition

    and you didnt cap God

  • He's got a voice like Jame Earl Jones... gives ya chills!! Just amazing!!

  • A couple things off, Biblically (i.e. the earth was never without water, and the rainbow didn't appear 'til after the flood), but superbly poetic and a spectacular delivery!

  • ..and I don't think God felt lonely either. :-)

  • What a wonderful,powerful voice.

  • that is because HE DOES

  • Wintley Phipps has a voice and a half he is a good Orator the congregation is just mesmerized.........and God "said that's good ....."

  • Great, great voice.

  • This was originally written in 1920 by James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938). Johnson was inspired to write it, and others, by the recollection of sermons he had heard in his youth. He had the power to sweep his hearers before him; and so Johnson himself was often swept away. So does my brother Wintley.

  • Excellent.

  • AMEN! MY FELLOW CHRISTIAN! MAY the LORD BE GLORIFIED FOREVER!

  • Thank God for Disciples like Pastor Phipps. He truly is a child of God. Bless him and his Ministry.

  • AMEN

  • couldnt have put it better

  • This makes me love Jesus even more, so glad I found it

  • sem palavras...!!!

  • AMEN!

  • I agree, God made a beautiful world, Man sins turned the world into what it is today not God. Stop blaming God for what Man has done to others, hinself, and the world. Man open the box in a way of speaking, a box God warned him of and yet man did it anyway, and now that the world is trpubled people wants to blame God, Sin cause these things, what, I say whatever they maybe. Anything that is terrible and wrong and ugly, man sins did this not Our loving and kind Father God of Love.

  • @maedae1 You wrote wisely.

  • I'm trying to find this for my kid's speech choir. We're going to recite this for a church program and if the children could hear this, it would help them in their presentation. Do you know where I can find it to download it?

  • The Creation is a part of the book, God's Trombone, written by James Weldon Johnson.

  • thank god 4 god

  • Praise God, the Almighty Creator!

  • God created the world & man to fulfill His Sovereign plan to produce a redeemed humanity. Before, thoughout, & after human history, His attributes & character can be seen by every being in the universe so that HE will receive glory. Although loved by God,(because love is an attribute of God's character) "the chief end of man is to glorify God and to (love, enjoy) Him forever. "Man-centered 'theology' ", though popular today is not Scriptural. Overall, however, Mr. Phipps ministry is a blessing.

  • God Bless you Wintley Phipps, you are amazing.

  • This is so AWESOME!

I have taken the liberty to send this link to a presidential candidate and his family...Mr. Phipps is so awesome! Thank U God for sharing him with us.

  • My "choir" performed this when I was in high school. Brings back memories. Public schools wouldn't dare do this these days. Wintley Phipps is great!

  • WOW!

  • What an amazing rendition of an amazing story. What an awesome God we serve. I just love hearing these stories so beautifully told. Thank you Wintley Phipps for sharing your gift with us.

  • Aleluia!!!!

  • The guy at 2:05 is the phenomenal Doug Oldham whose incredible bass-baritone voice was the inspiration and example for many young singers whose greatest desire was to be able to emulate his amazing tone. His voice remain ageless and I'm sure he would be delighted that his demeanor made you smile. He's just that kind of gracious guy.

  • It is simply amazing ..... THANK YOU for posting these kind of videos ... I cry just by listening these exclamations and I think they are inspired by God himself.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT ... THANK YOU .... AGAIN THANK YOU FOR BLESSING MY SOUL...

    THANK YOU....

  • I have put this video in 'my favorites' and listened to it countless times. An amazing poem written by an amazing man and performed by a man with an amazing voice.

  • The poem was written by James Weldon Johnson (Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing). The book is intitled "God's Trombone"

  • Wintley Phipps is a perfect of example of someone walking into their destiny and using thier gift to Glorify God!

  • Gorgeous storytelling style of Creation. A true bard. God is proud of this mouthpiece.

    :-)

  • Beauitful voice. I could listen to him talk and sing all day. Thanks for posting this.

  • Amazing voice! This was a poem written by James Weldon Johnson in 1919. I did this poem in sixth grade! I have always loved to close my eyes and imagine that God actually did it this way! I really enjoyd this! Thank you.

  • I, too recited these poems from God's Trombone over 40 years ago. To hear Mr. Phipps recite The Creation brings it more and more to life again for me.

  • One word. Amazing.

I don't believe in God, nor any other religion, I believe in myself and my loved ones. But this man's voice has put chills down my spine countless times

  • You probably don't believe in the god you heard about. The real God, is so loving, and puts such worth on you, and value. He hold all things together...and look at your amazing eyes, how they function, and all parts of you... THis couldn't just fall into place without a Master Engineer....Best regards, and may you find truth.

  • The best version I heard of this was by William Warfield, but Mr. Phipps is terrific.

  • Yes! This is more true to the earths making than anything Ihave heard yet!! Amen,Amen!!!

  • How could Scientists recover a T. rex dinosaur bone with soft tissue How can a supposedly 70 "million year" -old fossil yield preserved cells and blood vessels?

  • scottymate: The experts in the field? Those that proclaim themselves wise? Evolution theory only works if Death can create something. If you make death negative, wich all logic that I have seen state, (lost my grandfather, was not a positive event.)then evolution is negative, since you are born, then "Evolve" and die.

  • Got nothing against what you believe but you don't seem to have read any books about evolution at all. Evolution does not occur during an individuals lifetime it happens via natural selection in which an individual passes on it's genes to offspring. Death does not allow organism to evolve it is the organisms that live long enough to pass on their genes that allow a species to progress...

  • Fwiw, 'scientists' believe that the human species grew out of less than 10 Million people. Today 10 Million people are born every 70 days...we should see a major evolutionary change every three months at the most. Why don't we? Another reason why the religion of evolution is dying.

  • Only religion makes death a positive event and that you could argue is its biggest strength and the reason why so many intelligent people still believe in it

  • Pan5464: the devil is described as this worlds god. But the word used is different from the words used on God. The devil, was not made as a devil, but was made good and pure of heart, an angel or herald of light. With time, he desired to be worshipped, to become God, since he fails at that, he instead desire the death of all Life. The Devils greatest achievement, was to make people doubt his existance.

  • I like it. He does have some of the science behind the events wrong though. However, it's poetic and beautiful. Thanks!!!

  • There are no words to describe this moment of amazing faith!!!

  • Amazing... Simply, amazing. He´s beautiful!!! I won't say, God bless Wintley Phipps, 'cause a man like him, such light sorriunding him, tell's me that he's already blessed. I'll say, thank you God for showing us your blessings.

  • An incredible presentation of God's creation. It would be impossible for him to do such presentation without God's help. You're blessed Wintleu Phipps. In God, you're amazing.

  • His voice is amazing! Of course, you need to take this poetry with a pinch of salt - the worrying thing is a lot of people believe this stuff. We have not one piece of evidence for any of the assertations he says. But that's ok, it's a story, right?

  • Loved it, said with passion, a man passionate for God,God bless you Reverend Phipps !!

  • This Reverand Phipps is as great as Dr. King !!!!!

  • you r beautiful!

  • Many forget that Satan has power too. He causes alot of the troubles in the world to get you to question God and stray. That's where faith comes in. You hold true to your faith and pray to God for help when you need it.

  • I have nothing against religion, dont misunderstand me. I do have a problem with peoples interpretation of it and the way they process reality is so misted and seperate from what reality actually is. You can believe in god and still look around and believe in facts too. God gave you a mind, freewill and intelligence for a reason didnt he? Use it dont abuse it.

  • i didn't say i didn't believe in facts. I'm just saying people want to look up to heaven and ask "why this why that" and blame God for everything, i've been guilty of this.

  • God didn't make it a hell. God made it a perfect place. Man messed it up. But God still provides a way of forgiveness so when we die we can go and enjoy him and the other place he created.

  • Erik: I dont mean to step on your belief that the world is perfect. If you think that then thats great.

I would just like to through a few words at you to see your response: Volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, polio, aids, deformity, physical and mental disability, miscarriages, hurricanes, Lightening hitting you on the head and frying you to a cynder.

  • you weren't listening, he didn't say the world was perfect NOW. He said God made it a perfect place (BUT) man messed it up therefore he's aknowledging the fact that he knows it's far from perfect now. He means that when God first created the world he meant for it to be a safe, wonderful place but when man let the seperation from God happen, that's when the world because messed up.

  • God tends to get the blame for EVERYTHING but it's man's fault for seperating from God. They want God to make everything perfect for them and then go about their merry way.

  • Do you mean all these things never used to happen? Techtonic plate shifting which causes earthquakes has been happening for millions of years. Thats what made the hemilayan mountains for 1 example. There have always been natural disasters. Even the dinosaurs were wiped out by one. Its the way the world has always been. Disease ect were more frequent thousands of years ago than they are now. I understood his comment perfectly well. Its not me thats blaming God/humans. You are.

  • Also, I said nothing about blaming God, i'm saying the exact opposite. All i'm saying is it's not fair to blame God for EVERY LITTLE THING THAT HAPPENS. He loves, and He cares, but since he doesn't mess with freewill he isn't going to stop evil people from commiting crimes and making this world a scary place. I think people should accept responsiblity more often and not point the finger at God.

  • ok. There is a point where we are going to disagree as although I am into theology and the history of the bible/religion I am now aethiest, so... I do understand what you are saying though. I gave your video 5 stars. I thought he did a good version of creation. I have no idea who he is but I recognise his voice from somewhere. Thanks for the response.

  • His name is Whintley Phipps and he is a graduate of Oakwood College and a pastor and founder of the Academy of Dreams. Hes a wonderful singer as well as an orator. Look for some of his songs.

  • I must say that this remark is really close to the knowledge of who God is

  • The guy gave examples of natural disasters and asked if you believed these things didn't happen before man seperated himself from God. He didn't blame God or man (that was his point), he blamed nature, hence the term, natural disasters.

  • KJS72: If you read the Bible, in genesis King James version, you find that Man brought death into the world. This exclude the hypothezes of millions of years. (side note, they have discovered that the speed of Light is not constant.) Now, if you do not believe in God, then evolution, wich also is a religion, may suit you, but know then, that you trade a God of Life, to a god of Death.

  • this made me smile

  • It's a nice narration, very imaginative, just like a well meanful song. May it lead some to the truth. Those who know the Truth don't be too critical. God bless.

  • Natural selection only works with the genetic information available and tends only to keep a species stable. So how would you explain the 'increasing complexity' in the genetic code that must have occurred if evolution were true?

  • Several lines of evidence converge to establish the historical reality of Jesus Christ

    (1) the New Testament documents;

    (2) ancient Jewish sources;

    (3) Roman writings;

    (4) early antagonists of Christianity;

    (5) the testimony of the patristic writers;

    (6) the art of the Roman catacombs;

    (7) the impact of Christianity in history. We base Time itself through Christ; B.C. and A.D.

  • Fantastic. Godbless this preacher. He really holds your attention, and I love the way he did Amazing Grace, and the story. How can I get copies of these? William Ranous

  • Unfortunately, God did not create the heavens, the earth and everything in it because He was lonely. God does not need man to feel needed. He created man to show His glory and His might.

  • yes, to show his glory and his might but he also loves man more than anything. it wasn't simply a "power trip" of some kind.

  • Maybe or maybe not... this is not a sunday schooll's class... this the creation of a man thinking 'bout his God creating... these are the pictures his mind can achieve... it's art, it don't need to be the whole truth, it's just and expresion of a soul... the only one thing we can do is to watch and hear... I insist: it's not a doctrine class... it's a master piece of art...nothing more, nothing less...DAVID

  • you sound a bit self-righteous to me

  • Totally awesome. Praise the Lord!

  • Dang, what a lovely deep voice!

  • Not only is Winley Phipps a wonderful, talented singer, he is also a pastor. He pastors a church in

Washington, DC. He is a profound speaker. A multi talented indvidual.

  • Annointed greatness. The strength of the voice will make you imagine the almighty as well as the instances perceived. GOD'S BLESSED... "AND THAT'S GOOD!"

  • I never knew Wintley Phipps was a speaker. I know he sings like an angel. Wonderful surprise!

  • Fantastic, I love this man, he's truely full of Gods Holy Soirit. Keep making more video's. From 1 to 10, this video is a 10+. Bill

  • This is wonderful. Thank you for having this on the internet. God Bless You.

  • Wonderful description.

  • This is GREAT!!!

  • i know this whole thing by heart

  • Very good!

  • His voice is so very rich and controled, that this gift from God needs always to be involved in music, and agape. His vocal achievements in Gospel Music, leave brother Phipps among only where a few can exist, their gifts are so beautifully adorned, and spoken of as "Gifts that must be entrusted to my work, and thus, you let me sing and preach, as you rest!"

  • wow! I'm special. The image of God!!!
