How true. It seems we were decieved by what was then a huge cultural phenomenon of the 80s for the past 20 plus years. And we didn't discover the truth until a number of years later. Talk about shocking surprises.
For those who don't know, prior to this scene Voltron/Golion defeated Zarcon/Daibarzar in battle & Zarcon died. After that, Haggar started refering to him as her son & kept asking Lotor/Sincline to give her back her son. So Haggar is Lotor's grandmother.
In this scene, Haggar revealed to Lotor that his mother was from Aris/Altea & that he is half human. She then torments him by questioning how he can destroy his home planet. Outraged, Lotor calls Haggar a liar and kills her.
I have ALWAYS wanted to know what they were saying, thank you! Any chance you can tell me what Lotor/Sincline was saying in the dream he had about Allura/Farla?
Hmmm interesting that Haggar is actually Zarkon's mother. YUCK! So Haggar isn't human at all isn't she? I think she has an interesting backstory being secretly the queen mother is that's the case Lotor doesn't believe her.
The show, Voltron, is based off of a show named Golion. This is the original Golion cut. BUT it's not Voltron, so technically, you're right, Hagger never dies. However, the witch in Golion DOES die.
It's funny that Masako Nozawa A.K.A. Goku of DB, DBZ,& DBGT and Akira Kamiya A.K.A Kenshiro of Fist The of North Star & Fist of The North Star 2 played as that ol' witch Haggar & Prince Lotor , And Haggar gets offed by Lotor ( shame )!
I understood some of it, but I could just be guessing. When Sincline kicks Honerva's cat, he says "You stupid beast!" Then after Honerva falls over, I heard the word "inochi", meaning life. It could be that she was telling him that he would die. Next, Sincline was shouting, "Liar! You're lying!" and Honerva says it's not a lie and continues to taunt him. He then shouts "Shut up, shut up!" and finally he says "Damn you, you filthy witch! DIE!!!"
The Go-Lion uncut DVDs, as well as the Vehicale Voltron Force, will be out on North American DVD soon, according to the last DVD boxset, the fial one Black Lion, I just got (I have all of the Voltorn/English dubbed North American ones now).
Go-Lion is cool but I prefer Voltron in the cut form for some reason ...
Plus wasn't haggar a victim of zarkon before she became evil?
-------------------
IIRC Haggar's origin (used to be a beautiful good witch who ended up corrupted by dark forces) was an invention of the US-produced episodes at the end of the series. In Golion, Haggar was 100% and didn't have a tragic background or anything of the sorts...

Somehow I prefer the US version of her origin. It makes it possible to sympathize with the villain without having the villain die a horrible gory on-screen death.
Of course they did! They planned to bring the show back for a second season, so they didn't kill off any of the major villains. When it comes to major villains, it isn't a matter of censoring violence (after all, Yurak and Mogor died onscreen). They just didn't want to get rid of important characters in case the show was popular enough to warrant a continuation. (It was okay for Yurak and Mogor to die, because their role as Lotor's underling was eventually filled by Cossak..)
@zvermilyer2 If you ask me, it seems kind of pointless that they kept Zarkon and Haggar alive for the American version. Even though they wanted to make a second season for Voltron, they could have had other villains take their place, and maybe only keep Lotor as a survivor of the first season.
What was the revelation that Hagar dropped on Lotor before he slaughtered her, anyway? It must have really shaken him up to prompt such a violent reaction.
I'm not certain whether the cat is dead or just hurt. If you look carefully, you'll see that its facial expression seems to change after Lotor kicks it away and Haggar catches it. Also, she seems to be shielding it from Lotor with her body. Why would she do that if it's already dead? And by the time Lotor delivers the death blow and Haggar disintegrates, the cat has disappeared, so it must have escaped. Not that the ASPCA would care about that. Lotor is cruel.
I know Goku when I hear.....him?

I caught the word "haha" in there, which is an informal word for "mother". So she was talking about Sincline/Lotor's mother...
