I'm hearing the transmission shift from first to second at almost 55MPH and from second to third at 95MPH. Am I correct? Mighty tall gears in that transmission if that's the case.
wow this thing jumped from like 35 to 50 so quick, i calculated bout a 5 to 6 second 0 to 60 which is great but i bet u culd cut that down if you launched it better lol. yea the supercharged 3800 series 2 wuld be nice tho like a monte carlo ss
@corvettels9 the transmissions in these cars are their achilles heel. Not a good idea to have them shift into 4th @ WOT...or you risk loosing 4th gear. 2003+ GS's had hardened 4th gear shafts to fix the issue.
I am putting the cutlass and my toro up on Craigslist soon im going to miss them but going to love what im finally going to have the money to buy and I talked to another Gs owner that your videos have helped them out. Your famous lol
@JohnFromSpace In January if i still have my job im getting a regal finally lol I been looking a a 04 with 89000 miles but they want 8000 for it which is a little to high for me but I been keeping a eye out for one.
I'm getting away with a 3.2 because of the shortstack intercooler. I have your mods in addition to the shortstack. Only reason I'm not running a 3.1 is because 3.1 or smaller requires bigger injectors adding more cost. If you're going to add bigger injectors might as well get a fullsize intercooler but thats twice the cost of a short stack.
@JohnFromSpace Nothing wrong with taking the cheaper route. And for a ~3800LB car your haulin pretty good.. thats a nice build. Respect for the 3800. :)
I am more of a Domestic fan but the Altima is a awesome choice as well. Both run close quartermile times stock but remember the 3800 Series 2 piles on the HP fast with mods since it comes with a blower from the factory. Think of it like a Mustang CObra on a smaller scale.
@JohnFromSpace true I am actually leaning towards the regal much more affordable,and like you said more potential plus my mom already has a altima 2.5 that she lets me use anytime and it would be kinda stupid looking to have two in the driveway lol I was also condsidering a maxima but they are too expensive and the older ones arnt that fast.I really want fwd since i live in canada its much better in the snow and im not a toyota or honda fan so kinda limits my options lol
@123mrkevind you want this one. It's cheap to fix and you can do it yourself, unlike those japanese cars where everything is shoehorned in and covered in wires.
@JohnFromSpace They most definitely are, is there any way that i could do it myself if I have the proper software/hardware or do i have to buy one. If i cannot find myself a decent GS I'm going for an LS but i want to precision turbo it would that be a good idea, or should i wait it out and go with a S/C?
Nice buick man, I used to work for buick in the late 90's into the early 2000's and these were pretty sweet rides back then. One of the worst things GM did was killing off the 3800 series motors... but then they have a long history of getting cars just right before killing them off... But the nail in the coffin for me being a GM guy was the bailouts... so now I drive a ford :)
@JohnFromSpace Yeap I had it in a 92 and a 98 Bonneville both were pretty great cars. The Regal GS and the Grand Prix GTP were great cars as you said they will pull 30mpg all day on the highway and could keep up with any riced out civic at the time, nevermind the mustang GT's. They were really under appreciated when they were made, but in the late 90's everyone had to have jap crap and throw a big fucking wing on the trunk (on a FWD car...).
Yeah they were doing 14's in the quarter back in the 90's. Camrys.Maxima's and Accords were doing 16's and 17's in the quarter in that Era. They hit the 14's now but people forget that the GM 3800 did it 13 years earlier.
Haters say but it has a Supercharger!
Well the cars now have Multi cams and technology packed into them and are way more complex. The 3800 is a nice simple pushrod motor and yeah it really does 30 mpg just as good as Japanese cars.
@JohnFromSpace yeah or the ricers will say "well you have a V8" lol well yeah... may as well buy something that is simple and works right from the factory then take an economy car, sink 10 grand into it with body kits and spoilers, and void your warranty for a car thats slower and actually gets lower gas mileage. Anyone that needs to know what the 3.8 GM V-6's can do just has to look at the Buick Gran National, and that thing used, by todays standards, real basic technology.
I'm a student of all cars and I'm even a fan of the Integra GSR/Type R but some arguments are flawed.
My most hated one is HP per liter that the Top Gear leg humpers always bring up.
Yeah a Honda S2000 makes 120 HP per liter and a Dodge Viper makes 55 HP per liter but the bottom line is I'll take a Viper because it's 500 HP and yeah the S2000 makes 120 HP per liter but it's still 240 HP. Yeah I'll take a Viper =P
Nothing wrong with the S2000 though it's just not 500 HP =)
@JohnFromSpace Yeah I liked the old Type R's in the 90's that they would come in kind of a pearl off white color. Real rare, it would just drive me nuts when people would buy a basic integra and try to make it more then it really is. But your right you have to look more at your horsepower/weight ratio and also your torque and thats what you get in the lower revving higher displacement motors, not to mention you have a flatter power curve so it's more real usable power rather then numbers.
I'm more a fan of Domestics as you can probably tell by my Channel but I love the Type R because I am a fan of cars.
When that thing came out it was one of the first cars that let you take an engine up to 8,000 RPM. The only other cars that use that sort of style are the expensive Italian cars.
People who are biased are missing out. I prefer power way early but wouldn't mind having a GSR,Type R or RX8. Must be fun to take those to 8000 and 9000 RPM.
@JohnFromSpace Now mazda certainly deserves ALOT of credit other companies tried making a car with a rotery motor work and most of them ended up pretty much being junk but they did a hell of a job on their design most early designs had problems in their seals and even though now they see some use outside of mazda, if I think Wankel motor I think Mazda :) I still tend to just prefer bigger american cars but that's all in personal preference.
@JohnFromSpace WOW I wonder why I mean if eather one gets nailed in a wreck it'll be pricy... maybe demographics? Maybe the GSR appeals to more younger guys and the vettes appeal to more mature guys? You never know sometimes. That's like when I sold my 98 bonneville and got a 96 XR-7 you'd think my insurence would go up but it actually went down quite abit, and I had a 4.6. I wasn't complaining though I hopped that old cougar up abit and it made a fun sleeper car.
I think it's the most stolen car in America. Sad. Ricers (not real import tuners) are low and rip each other off. I remember my friends Celica GT-S The one with the goofy factory body kit got all keyed up at the bowling alley and my Grampa Regal GS was un-molested =)
Ricers have to be the most jealous people on earth if they are going to key up each others cars and jack each others wings. Even in college and high school it was like that in my area.
@JohnFromSpace Yeah, I can see that and to contrast it made me think of afew weeks ago I was running a load down to Alabama and drove past the Vette Museum, I got passed by pretty much a group of vettes going down there and up the road a guy with a early 60's model was having some issues and was broken down on the side of the road and there was over half a dozen other vettes on the shoulder helping him out, and the ricers call domestic drivers hillbillys? lol I call em class acts.
Yeah in a perfect world this would of had a Manual and if I did I probably wouldn't have the need for a Vette. It isn't a perfect world though. Thats life =)
dam like 5 sumthin seconds WOW i wish i had tha GS not tha LS :( oh well i love my buicks its my second my first reagl wuz 96 with tha same bulletproof 3.8
Can't go wrong with the 3800s man! Even with the mods I can pull 30 miles per gallon. American Cars being gas guzzlers is one of the biggest bullshit myths around!
Sold my SSEi, got a Lexus IS 350, wont ever get a North American car ever again... my SSEi was the biggest piece of shit ever. Wish every day I would have bought a Civic like my friend, his still works fine.
nothing wrong with civics at all....they will outlast any american car out there and have the history of great reliability...they might not be the best looking or fast...but when it comes down to reliabilty the take the win 100% no questions asked
Hey now I'm sure there are about 3 cool Lexus IS owners in the world. At least they are still alive since that car didn't have accelerator pedal problems =)
23,000 people care and I get paid for this video just like Ray William Douchebag gets paid for his videos and I dont disable my comments like that ass goblin =)
Thanks for checking out my channel, I get paid for your click buddy =)
i love the power of my regal gs but i was actually thinking about putting a V8 in it if it can fit then gettin it bored.. just a random idea then throwing the sc 3800 in my 89 regal
Yeah once you start dropping pulley sizes traction becomes more of an issue. Lots of fun though. Makes you smile everytime playing with all that torque.
@JohnFromSpace if i wanted to put a smaller pulley on do i need to get the engine looked at? i have a 2003 gsx with the 3.5 pulley but i was looking and getting a smaller one. and they just bolt on right?
If you want a smaller pulley your going to need more mods and a scan gauge too see if your car can handle a smaller pulley size. I'll pm you my modding basics video right now.
@palebeachbum most if not all manual cars can chirp tires while changing gears... i meant from 0-75kph the tires where squealing and it stopped cause i realized i was overspeeding and let go of the gas... not trying to bash on you or anything though
An 05 Impreza 2.5 RS. Its a great car, but I miss my Regal. The Regal was basically my first car that I bought and paid for completely by myself. I drove it for about 6 years and got it up to 195k miles. Its developed all kinds of issues and was becoming too much to keep up, so I finally decided to let it go. Sad day
You just kind of have to gradually get on the gas or it'll just spin the tires. Its not about the RPM its more about the boost. Watch the boost gauge and it just spikes as soon as I pass around 30 mph
what a sleeper! that was pretty quick, I don't really like the L67 cuz its so common, and simple to get power out of, but that was good for a granny mobile ;)
I think the L67 being so common and being in undesirable vehicles is part of the appeal. Its not liked or even known by the fast and the furious crowd but for enthusiasts who want to go a different route then doing it the easy way/common modding (Mustangs,FBodys,Civics)
I think only the really knowledgable enthusiasts know what an L67 is and you're one of them even if you arent a fan. Everyone and their grandmothers know what a B20 and Ls1 is.
@JohnFromSpace truthfully, I have no idea what a B20 is, I'm guessing from what you said, its the civic engine? LOL I really hate 'rice' and don't know much about it, and I wouldn't mind the ls1, if insurance wasn't 10 times higher for those extra 2 cylinders.... and what you said makes sence, if a geo metro pulled up to ya, the first thing you think is '3 cylinders' but if there was a quiet L67 hiding in there, that would be wicked LOL
@JohnFromSpace ugh, screw the FnF crowd.... LOL any engine can make a little power with 50 pounds of boost! LOLZ! sad thing is, your regal would put up a good fight against all those highly modified civics, the only ones that might slowly pass U would be the ones with over $10k in their engines, which is fine, cuz you can laugh at their cars sounding like an angry lawnmower ^_^ hehehe
Hey there "JohnFromSpace"! I was just wondering if you have included an MSD ignition system with your bolt-ons yet?? I have a 1996 Chevy S-10 SS with the 4.3 V-6. And let me tell you what a difference the MSD made! I've got the 6AL-2(Digital) Box with the Blaster coil, and MSD Plug Wires, and holly cow!! It made 12 more pounds of torque on the dyno, and 9 more Horses. Not only that! The power from 0-60 came alive!! No more flat-ignition curve!! Anyway......just curious. And nice GS by the way.
hey john, i put a 3.3 on my lesabre, it really woke it up, the only mod i did is the cold air intake and i run around 10 psi with no kr yet, what would you do next? exhaust? i borroed a buddy's scanner for the kr
holly crap i love that whine!!!!!!!!!!!!! dude 5***** on this vid!!!!!!!! love it... im gonna start modding my grand prix gtp soon!!!! ill post some vids soon.
if it was a 5 speed all it would do is burn the tires these are fast cars i had one. the 4 speed is good for a launch cause it uses the torque to take off then the hp during the higher rpms. a 5 speed would just burn the tires off in 1st and possibly 2nd gear. it should burn the tires pretty good as it is though
Funny you say that, One time at my local track I lined up against a Hemi Charger, guy was a total asshole he said hey man can you let someone else line up with me? I want some competition.
So I was like dude give me a run I want to hear how awesome your exhaust sounds when you smoke me. I ended up beating the guy by 3 car lengths he didn't even look at me when we picked up our time slips. What a poor sport most people there win or lose say nice run at least.
In this video it has a 3.2 inch pulley,short stack intercooler, Porte,d exhaust manifolds, 3inch down pipe,ubend and resonator delete reprogrammed PCM, solid motor mounts and an intake
Nah I just have a 1/8th here. Last time I went I beat a Lt1 Z28, 300ZX TT,Hemi Charger and Mazda Speed 3, lost to a Zo6 and last Gen Supra so it's not too shaby at all cant complain makes a nice daily driver and sweet road trip car =)

@jaymieandrew855 Colder plugs, headers, cold air intake, tune, vs cam or intercooler. That'd probably do the trick.

I've always wanted one of these cars for a daily driver. They're quick, comfortable, reliable, gas efficient.
I dont think they're even that fast from a stop, but it seems like they pull forever at the top end especially.

@Bbdrew
Actually from 0-30 you have to pamper it or you'll just light up your tires.
Check out the last video I posted. I floor it under 30 mph and it just gets massive wheel spin. Very tricky cars to launch.
But yeah I've gotten as high as 32 mpg on this when I wasn't boosting. Great daily drivers and cops dont look for you =)

Can't go wrong with the 3800s man! Even with the mods I can pull 30 miles per gallon. American Cars being gas guzzlers is one of the biggest bullshit myths around!
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
Sold my SSEi, got a Lexus IS 350, wont ever get a North American car ever again... my SSEi was the biggest piece of shit ever. Wish every day I would have bought a Civic like my friend, his still works fine.

I've had great luck with domestic. I rather walk then drive a Civic =)
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
@JohnFromSpace
nothing wrong with civics at all....they will outlast any american car out there and have the history of great reliability...they might not be the best looking or fast...but when it comes down to reliabilty the take the win 100% no questions asked

The 5.3 from the last generation Grand Prix will fit.

@JohnFromSpace ok thanx. sorry 3800 lovers. v8 just sound better
BassClef09 1 year ago
@BassClef09
I agree with that 100% I'm sure if I put flowmasters on my Econoline it'll sound just like a Mustang.
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
@JohnFromSpace that would be nice. My cousin used to have a Ford Bronco with a 5.0 in it, and it sounded great!
BassClef09 1 year ago
What's with all the hesitation? Don't care for that screaming banshee sound either.
palebeachbum 1 year ago
@palebeachbum
It'll spin the tires intop oblivion if you just floor it. Watch the boost gauge it goes from 4psi and the spikes as soon as I ease it past 30
Most people like the screaming banshee sound if you dont like it stock intake will silence it.
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
@palebeachbum i put my gtp off the line in 3k-4k and it tire squealed till 40mph...
racingisfun 1 year ago
@racingisfun
Yeah once you start dropping pulley sizes traction becomes more of an issue. Lots of fun though. Makes you smile everytime playing with all that torque.
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
@JohnFromSpace if i wanted to put a smaller pulley on do i need to get the engine looked at? i have a 2003 gsx with the 3.5 pulley but i was looking and getting a smaller one. and they just bolt on right?
asojfg69 1 year ago
@asojfg69
If you want a smaller pulley your going to need more mods and a scan gauge too see if your car can handle a smaller pulley size. I'll pm you my modding basics video right now.
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
@racingisfun Not bad, not bad. Although, I can break traction in my Optima in 2nd gear. ;-)
palebeachbum 1 year ago
@palebeachbum most if not all manual cars can chirp tires while changing gears... i meant from 0-75kph the tires where squealing and it stopped cause i realized i was overspeeding and let go of the gas... not trying to bash on you or anything though
racingisfun 1 year ago
@racingisfun
Yeah I can chirp into second with my Geo Metro. The skinny ass tires makes it easy.
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
@palebeachbum Fair enough. Did you check out my GMC Canyon run? ;-)

What did you get in place of it?
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
@JohnFromSpace
Sad day
mogthemoogle160 1 year ago
Wow, you pretty much can do a 0-60 in first gear! Surprisingly quick, but what happened around 4k rpms? Did you still have wheel spin ?
AppleJacks01 1 year ago
@AppleJacks01
You just kind of have to gradually get on the gas or it'll just spin the tires. Its not about the RPM its more about the boost. Watch the boost gauge and it just spikes as soon as I pass around 30 mph
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
@JohnFromSpace
Oh I see the boost gauge now. Didn't even notice that at first haha. You plan on getting some stickier tires to deal with that??

JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
what a sleeper! that was pretty quick, I don't really like the L67 cuz its so common, and simple to get power out of, but that was good for a granny mobile ;)
TacticalSuperRebel 1 year ago
@TacticalSuperRebel
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago
@JohnFromSpace truthfully, I have no idea what a B20 is, I'm guessing from what you said, its the civic engine? LOL I really hate 'rice' and don't know much about it, and I wouldn't mind the ls1, if insurance wasn't 10 times higher for those extra 2 cylinders.... and what you said makes sence, if a geo metro pulled up to ya, the first thing you think is '3 cylinders' but if there was a quiet L67 hiding in there, that would be wicked LOL
TacticalSuperRebel 1 year ago
@TacticalSuperRebel
Yeah according to the fast and furious crowd the B20 is the motor Jesus Christ himself built along with Moses =P
JohnFromSpace 1 year ago

And nice GS by the way.
extremedrivr 1 year ago
@extremedrivr I meant "Blaster 2 Coil".

hey john, i put a 3.3 on my lesabre, it really woke it up, the only mod i did is the cold air intake and i run around 10 psi with no kr yet, what would you do next? exhaust? i borroed a buddy's scanner for the kr
bigmax88 1 year ago
rockers or cam?
danilafalaleev 2 years ago
This car is nothing but bolt ons.
If your asking me rocker or cam go cam, 50-75 horsepower gain vs 25
JohnFromSpace 2 years ago
@JohnFromSpace
rockers are considered bolt ons... I got 1.9s
danilafalaleev 2 years ago
Non internal bolt on then =P
No rockers in this car just Intercooler and supporting mods
JohnFromSpace 2 years ago
oh ok :)
then my guess is: TOGs, zzp short stack ic, the pulley, exhaust, and a PCM?
When did you go WOT in that video just curious... the needle moves around so weird
danilafalaleev 2 years ago
I didnt have togs when I made this video just ported manifolds and I didnt go WOT until like 30 MPH
Anything under 30 is just wheel spin if I go WOT, watch the boost and its low until about 30
JohnFromSpace 2 years ago

Nothing but bolt ons =)
JohnFromSpace 2 years ago
Hell thats insane man. Too bad this car didn't have a 5 spd automatic transmission, would make better use of that torque.
7477238 2 years ago
Yeah this car was made when all GM had was 4 speed autos and didn't put manuals in anything but Vettes and F-Bodys. Its a shame.
JohnFromSpace 2 years ago
if it was a 5 speed all it would do is burn the tires these are fast cars i had one. the 4 speed is good for a launch cause it uses the torque to take off then the hp during the higher rpms. a 5 speed would just burn the tires off in 1st and possibly 2nd gear. it should burn the tires pretty good as it is though
thefuzzynipple 2 years ago
Regals launch better in 3rd, although you can gain 0.1 - 0.05 if you throw it into 2nd once you hook up all the wa

What a poor sport most people there win or lose say nice run at least.

do you happen to know if the 03' model has the performace shift option? and if so how to engage or disengage it
basketballer3232 2 years ago
Performance shift was discontinued in 2000 I beleive now the computer just goes into performance mode when you floor it.
There is a way to wire in a performance shift button though you have to tap into the PCM, not sure how though.

Closed course my ass. On the other hand that's a fucking nice car!

JohnFromSpace 2 years ago
hey john, when you put headers on the gs did it make much difference?i know the boost went down, but did it gain much more power?
bigmax88 2 years ago
Not really headers are more of a "gateway" mod. It'll open up the possibilities if you want to mod further into the future.
The most difference I can feel is on the top end.
I'm sure headers are a better mod if your starting off but since I got the intercooler then headers the butt dyno didnt feel much.
Headers are good if you want to go all out or if you dont want to run an intercooler you can run a 3.3" Pulley with rockers and headers.
