This vid is brilliant! Really well edited and I've discovered new songs from it!
Have to say that i thought that Sugerlumps was an obvious riff on My Humps but it does sound a lot more like Beep. They probably meant to riff on both.
Great vid. I agree with you that many of these are fusions of different songs from the same genre. I would argue that "Sugar Lumps" seems to be more obvious to "My Humps" and "Rambling Through the Avenues of Time" I would say sounds a lot more like "Piano Man". Good work though.
A lot of these songs are fusions of many others. I just went with a 1 for 1 pairing and tried to stick with the one that was either closest to the video or the song itself.
Hah, the Pussycat Dolls one is so obvious now it's been pointed out to me. I got the R Kelly one the first time I saw it, though I think the original is hilarious in it's own right.
Thanks for sharing the references. I agree that knowing the genre of music, song style, or camera references for the music videos makes it all the funnier. The multi-layers of music and comedy is what makes what they do all the better for it because while the comedy is good, so is their music.
Some of the songs are very obvious parodies, like the Westside Story one, but some I had no idea about - like the Usher and R Kelly one. Very informative!
surely rambling through the avenues of time is billy joel?

I think "Sugalumps" is a reference to "Milkshake" by Kelis.

The fashion song is probably also a parody of "Fashion" by David Bowie

I lived In China for three years, I would hear that Lui Jai-Chang song booming out of shops all the time. Used to get right on my tits! haha.

I feel like sugarlumps is more of a parody of Kelis - Milkshake

Well done! It's sometimes hard to place all the pop culture references the conchords pull from.
KwathiMbutu 2 years ago
That was my thought, especially since getting them makes the Conchords much, much funnier.
