  • As I rediscover DD I'm blown away again and again. Her performances as just so solid; what a gifted natural. My infatuation may disqualify my, but I don't think Dietrich's version holds a candle to this. In fact, I enjoyed Billie Holiday's version more, though still a distant second to Miss Day's.

  • @rixquik Well - Doris and Andre certaily give us a different feeling than the one we're used to with Dietrich. I love this melancholy version .... its truely beautiful. This whole album is a gem !

  • beautiful...

  • @beatrixme I really love this version from them. We're so used to Marlene's version. This is a beautiful, melancholy song !

  • marvel♥ I love this woman♥ This entire album is divine♥

  • @anialek36 Have to agree with you ... a really great album. =)

  • @Dayniac4324 You're right, this album is great:) Doris's voice has so many colors, once a pianissimo, and then forte fortissimo, fortissimo♥ Doris sings so lightly♥ Have a nice day:) Ania

  • This is such a beautiful song, And wow Doris knocks it out of the park as far as ballads go, she is a pro.

  • @daisymay2u I think so too. Quite a different take than the Dietrich version. But - to me she's the best ballad singer ever. A really beautiful version .. happy you enjoyed !

  • I can't over at how good Doris sounds on "Duets" with Andre Previn. Previn is as

professional as Doris Day. Great CD, and I recommend it.

  • @wholzman2 It really is a great album. This is definitely a different take on this song ... we're so used to Marlene Dietrich's version. I really like this melancholy version. I'm with you .. I recomment this album .. CD

    also.

  • I keep coming back to this song, it gives my goose bumps goose bumps

  • @Caledonia3104 I'm so happy to hear you like Doris' version....I really love it too. Some folks don't like it ...it is markedly different from the one we're used to .. Marlene Dietrich. I love the meloncholy interpretation by Doris. Thank you !!

  • She has to be the most beautiful voice ever, ohh and i'm 46 in case you think i'm a really old dude...lol

  • @Caledonia3104 Have to agree with you ... one of the best voices ever ! I'm about 10 years older than you ... so I guess I'm am an old gal !! hahaha ! Thanks ... happy you enjoyed !

  • I'm 47 and just starting to discover how beautiful she is (her and Dinah Shore...). WOW!

  • @ArtsPatron2008 Welcome to the group of Doris admirers ... there are a lot of us out here ! So happy you enjoyed ... thanks !

  • I love Doris Day, I think my favorite is Que Sera, Sera.

  • @trilbynhiss I love her music too..... I guess you could tell that ! lol Thank you ... so happy you enjoyed !

  • The killer bit of this song, if one is singing it for a recording, is the word Moths. You have to get out the o-th-s in one gasp so it doesn't sound like a mush. Doris does it cleanly.

  • @Gydinglight12 She certainly does... just listened again to hear that word !

  • In the early 60s Doris was stuck in her Internal Virgin image. This version of Falling..gets done as a lounge song--with just a girl singer and a piano player, not a bimbo in a Weimar-era Berlin dive. Nothing wrong with a good lounge song. For a strange version of this song check out the Nick Lucas version from '31.

  • @Gydinglight12 Well --- I'm with you. I like this melancholy interpretation by Doris. I know we're all used to Marlene Dietrich's version. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but ... I like this. Thank you .. I will check out that other version you suggested. Happy you enjoyed .. Thanks !!

  • i know if u havent a nice word to say then dont say nothing at qall bu no who ever this lady is tryd to own this song to hard and she murderd it of course i only listend to the first 5 seconds cause i can only imagine how worse its gonna get ew jus fast forward to 2:00 n it wasw horrible she couldent even save it at the end what a shame when some one tryis to personalize a track everyone has sung n in the end they just prodice musical trechery

  • Fine Singer!

    Thanks for posting!

    Aloha from Hawaii!

  • Aloha ! Wish I was there right now ... visited 3 times and I love it !!

Yes she is ... so happy you enjoyed !

  • Christina Aguilera remade this song... I personally do not like her rendition. With this original though, I could listen to it for hours. Faved.

  • I'll have to listen to that. Of course this song is associated with Marlene Dietrich...but I like Doris' version ... its so melancholy. Thanks.... so happy you enjoyed !!

  • From her beginnings upto this early 1962 album, this is my favorite one. This Day/Prévin association worked wonders!

  • This is a great album ... they really did work well together. Too bad they didn't do more.

  • Well, Prévin was like Doris: too many different occupations. He did music for the movies too and being of French origin, he probably travelled there often. Day was an actress, and by the sixties, also a businesswoman in association with her husband. And then came the TV shows! Thus, you can see why she and Prévin didn't work again together.

  • Definitely busy people !

  • Thank you so much for posting this wonderful song. Doris Day is one of my favorite singers ever.

  • As you can tell - she is one of my favorites too... probably my favorite of all. So happy you enjoyed !! Thanks !

  • Thank you so much Dayniac4324 for posting Doris Day's beautiful music! A+++++ Doris Day Was Truly A Wonderful Lady Indeed! A+++++ Oh how I love Doris Day so much indeed! A++++ My days wouldn't be complete without listening to Doris Day's beautiful music! Doris Day, I will never stop loving you as long as I live! I thank God for Doris Day! Doris Day, I love you so much! Love, Marc

  • I listen to her music everyday too. She has an amazing voice !! Happy you enjoyed !!

  • Actually, I can see Doris do the business with the chair, and it's FUNNY!

  • Well ---- actually you might be right -- I can see her making it funny ! She should have done that on one her tv specials !! lol

  • I doubt Doris's name would pop up on any list of great comediennes, but it

should. She had it all-- the delivery, the timing, the naturalness. She once explained her approach to comedy-- you have to play it serious. It sure worked, although often the material she worked with wasn't first rate.

  • Everyone she worked with in comedies said she was the BEST. Yes -- if only she's had better material for some of those movies dear Marty signed her up to do. She was always wonderful - no matter what. She made it all look too easy - I think thats the reason she gets overlooked so often. But she's really having a revival lately - getting the recognition she deserves. Ok academy -- she deserves the lifetime achievement award !

  • A very odd choice for Doris... a song so closely identified with Marlene Dietrich. Although I'm crazy for Doris, I'm not sure this works.

  • Well - it is an odd choice -- but for me it really works.... I really like this. A very sad take on the song - I think.

At first I felt the same way because I can only think of Marlene singing it...but after a few times -- I like it.

  • Despite sharing Germanic roots, Doris and Marlene are as far apart as two performers can get. Maybe why it's just weird to me, as if Marlene tried to sing

"Pillow Talk." It could also be that I envision Marlene in "The Blue Angel" in that famous pose, using that chair for a prop, showing a lot of leg in a vulgar manner. Now, if the kids hearing this had never seen or heard Marlene, it would probably be different. Props to Doris, anyway, for trying something unusual!

  • Well- I know what you mean -- completely different with Marlene and the chair - that gravelly voice - no one like her. But - have to say I like this one too -- melancholly.

Absolutely can't see Doris with the chair !! lol

  • La voz de Doris Day es algo exquisito para el paladar del oido. Gracias...

  • What a voice!!! Absolutely gorgeous. Was she the voice in Lady and the Tramp?

  • oogie5963 - she does have a fantastic voice, I would agree. Doris is one of the best !

No - that was Peggy Lee in Lady and The Tramp. I believe she also wrote some of the songs.
