@thediscgolfvids Just get really serious about guitar. And learn stuff you know isn't too far above your level, that poses a challenge, and learning more time consuming techniques.
knock on wood gets you into this guy but then you see stuff like this and go Whoa... man... this is up with with stuff like Will Ackerman, Phil Keaggy and others. Really great tune! melody will always rule over all pyrotechnics if you ask me.
@200StringGuitar Not to nitpick, but where do you get stupid amounts of technicality in? His pieces are mostly in tempo rubato, he can't read sheet music or even tab, and he uses the same major scale runs on almost all his pieces. Don't get me wrong, hes got soul and knows how to make good music, but 'stupid amounts of technicality' is an overstatement for a guy who says in interviews he has no formal training.
I seriously wish I could sit down and learn how to play guitar like this. Everytime I watch this, it brings tears to my eyes because of how much emotion and passion is put into playing like this. I'd sell everything I own and live on the streets if I could play like this; as long as I had a guitar.
I've been a Lowden player since 1998. Le Bleu was recorded on a Lowden. This particular guitar was one I handpicked the wood for at the Lowden factory in Ireland in 2000--that was a cool day.
damn I really love his fingerstyle-style:P. Does anyone know similiar artists playing this kind of fingerpicking??? And I don't mean the newage guys like andy mckee or don ross.
The only one I know is pierre bensusan tough I still think his fingerpicking is quite different from justins (more celtic).
@jasspie Pierre Bensusan has a mesmerising and unique fingerstyle technique partly borrowed from traditional classical and flamenco style. He plays exclusively in DADGAD (on a Lowden too), check out the live versions of Wu Wei and Nice Feeling.
@DrDread yes I know him well, I own a couple cds, wonderfull player. But he's the only one I think of with a bit similiar fingerstyle (logical as Justin attended one of pierres week long masterclasses). Do you know any other guitarists playing like this?
@jasspie Well dude andy and don are as good as they come, but i really like Craid D'andrea his music is really relaxing and mellow, its got a sweet vibe you could check out.
@DiabeticMafia Thanks. Shall Do. And I do like don and andy, I was just sayin their style is quite diffirent. More groove based. Justin plays a lot of rubato, like bensusan and classical players.
@jasspie Billy McLaughlin plays a similar style and a few years back had to re-learn the guitar by switching from right to left hand playing. There is a video here that details what happened to him and why he was forced to make the switch.
@BrighamHB Can't say I know!Although, he says in another Scrabo Tower vid (posted by vaughanabe13) that he composed the song while visiting George Lowden in Ireland (presumably to have a guitar made)...and he has said he composed Le Bleu in 1999/2000..so its been a good decade or so!
i wonder what happens if this guy fingers a girl lol !!!
