@SKiPPY3553 It sounds way better with an english horn, if that was indeed a french horn. (I am unable to hear properly... it was pretty muffled) And the soloist wasn't particularly expressive, on top of lacking in tone quality.
I know that video recordings like this aren't favorable for the low brass sounds, but PLAY OUT EUPHONIUMS! Haha. I played euph on this song my senior year of high school. I loved it. You did pretty well on this!
When my band at school played this the director tried it in a whole lot of different tempos to see which one was the best sounding. Of course, the players prefered it slowed down at the beginning, but the director made it just a little slower than this. I totally agree with him, it does sound good now, but better that way.
im playing this song for state and it is hard especialyy dutring the SLOW parts btw it is way to darn fast the slow and lyrical stuff is marrked legato and has ritards for a reason..it is very impressive u can play this fast...is the lighting really that red?
Not quite. It's scored 88-92 bpm... this is closer to 98. Not a huge difference, and there's an artistic case to be made for this tempo, but you can't say it's what's written.
i love this song. we just played this at Top Talented honor band, got it together in 1 day because mazur absolutely needed a alfred reed piece. we took it a little slower, but thats understandable.
i have played this in high school, i am now a music ed major in college, and i must say the tempo is just a little fast, but you handle the tempo quite well. i am impressed with the first and third movements, however the second is lacking emotion. and your horns need to play with more fortitude and in tune...the whole fortitude thing will help that. all in all good job.
we are playing this in highschool honors wind ensemble and although i play a part in which not much happens(bass clarinet); i still love listening to it because it's gorgeous and just gives me goose bumps!
lol the time signature literally changes in every like 2-4 bars lol. Listen to the original recording by alfred reed, you guys did great throughout the piece. Kinda rushed in some parts lol.
Haha, Hey Jeni. Yeah, I got Callan (Redhead that does flags) to film Hounds for me. And it was really good so I decided to put it up. I can see you andBrent too. We did an awesome job. Thats why I put it up!
and again, now that i have finished watching it... the vibes sound good.. but damned glock.. waaahhh. it hides. same with xylo. arrrgh. excellent none-the-less. it would be better if (i think) rhys would stop bloody chewing.
hey hannah! it's jeni. yahoo! zac told me somebody put hounds on the net, but i didn't know who. hehe. you can see my little bald head, and brent - so darned tall.
this piece is sooo hard but i love it(: i have to do it for contest! i love my french horn part :D

The middle slow part of the song is sooooo boring. when we played it i wanted to cut out my toungue
65Hog 1 year ago
@65Hog I completely disagree. The slower part is arguably one of the most beautiful parts of the piece.
deathbyhighfashion 1 year ago
@deathbyhighfashion yes it is beautiful. I just didn't enjoy practicing it over and over and over and over and over.......

@deathbyhighfashion English horn? The double reed instrument? That would be weird. It's written for French horn.
Brass ftw

The flute covered up the euphonium soli... which is my favorite part of the whole song.
luke55698 2 years ago
@luke55698 I agree. When the euphonium comes back in with the duplets it sounds so awesome.

I kinda like the tempo fast, but this felt rather inconsistent. That the whole band couldn't stay together in front of the beat is quite a let down.

i really liked it and all, but i have to agree with some other people, it's too fast, you lose some of the magic while playing it.
