  • did you use a 18-55mm lens?

  • @MsTimezup this was all done with only the canon 50mm f/1.8 II

  • awesome video!

  • @MsTimezup thanks!

  • Very nice moovie man. I'm also making travel videos, but seems that 50mm lens will not be good for me as I often shoot myself from hands. I'm impressed with the qoulity of your film, very good made, man !

  • @skyworld86 Thanks for the comments! 50mm is a bit shaky especially when you are walking around. I've started to use lenses with image stabilization, that helps a lot of handheld. Check out my New York video for an example

  • @arthurwoo I

  • awesome cool beautiful etc. ...nice narration...enjoyed it!! :)

  • @Dtemplar22 Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • Check out my live music video shot with a Canon 600d and 50mm f/1.8 lens on my channel!

  • AWESOME VIDEO ..AWESOME BALI

  • @BATGUY777 Thanks! Bali is pretty awesome!

  • Wow, it's beautiful how you describe bali within this video...

    Big Thanks from Indonesia :)

  • @hazelbotu Thanks I am glad you liked it!

  • Hahahah nice work :D but i do think you might want to use a tripod at some scenes :P

  • @Arthurwoo very nice video

Do use a MacBook pro what your set up homey good work I subscribed

  • @pkilla617 i used a mac pro tower for this, with imovie

  • Nice work. I kindly recommend ou dub out your comment anout catching AIDS from the monkey (5:26)

  • Outstanding, well done. I'm learning the video aspect of my 600d and I'm trawling the net for ideas. I to have the same lens, but might end up using my 10 - 22 wide angle instead. Were you using manual focus or AF? At the moment I'm finding AF in video and live view very difficult. Thanks for you vid :)

  • @AlFrosty Thanks for the comments! For video, I use manual everything. Just do a test and see for yourself (hold down the shutter button halfway down and it'll try to AF) - AF takes too long to get right in video mode. Search the web and you will find the same response.

  • @arthurwoo Arthur you're right about AF in video, it just doesn't work. I've been working with achieving shallow depths of field and using the manual focus......I'm getting there. Just been out practicing today and now trying my hand at Premier Pro. Thanks for your help and keep the videos coming :)

  • @AlFrosty It takes a bit of time to get good at focusing, especially if you're just taking video on the fly and not setting up a shot for a film or music video. The fact the LCD is small makes it difficult as well. What helps I find is using an LCDVF to magnify the LCD screen to see if you're really in focus or not. Premiere is my tool! I love it.

  • @arthurwoo Hadn't even heard of the LCDVF until now. It seem like a good idea, especially after having trouble today getting images sharp with manual focus. I must admit though I was trying a wide angle and telephoto lens instead of my fixed 50mm. Playing with the zoom and focus clearly was a bit too much so might just stick with the 50mm for the time being. did you use Premiere for your NYC trip? if so I really need to get my learning head on.

  • @AlFrosty The LCDVF is great. If you're concerned about focusing it is one of the best tools to use to help you with that. It's just a matter of practice, you will get better at zoom/focusing if you keep at it! Focusing with primes is harder in some respects. If your f-stop is below 2.0 the depth of field makes your focused area smaller, so you might find it even harder to focus. I did use Premiere for the NYC vid.

  • @arthurwoo I agree that primes makes focusing a bit more of a challenge when at a lower f-stop, but it's all part of the fun. I'm not wanting correct focus every time. For me that doesn't look genuine, especially when it comes to a video like yours. It was real and on the move, which adds a lot more character to it. If you ever feel you want to show us your skills at Premiere Pro I won't hold you back :)

  • @AlFrosty oh ok i see what you're saying. there are already a ton of premiere tutorials online, not sure what more i'd add :)

  • Canon 600D Movies on my page.Check it

  • i live in indonesia, but never got chance to Bali, your video make me reallllyyyyy wanna go there.thanks=)

  • @MegaBalambalam Thanks for the comments ! It's a nice place to visit

  • @arthurwoo hey, did you shoot and edit this video as a kind of narrative? There's a lot of thought and editing put into this just to be a "Youtube" video. I'm curious why you didn't just use the audio from the camera. I've done some limited testing with my own 600d and the audio seems to be on par with my Galaxy SII.

  • @supercooled i happened to be going on a trip to bali and decided to shoot video, i wasn't sure what i was going to do with it. when i got back i liked the footage and wanted to put together a video for fun, so that's what this turned out as. i did a voice over so people could understand the setting and locations. i only had one scene where i dubbed the audio over, the rest was recorded when i got home. i never use the audio from a dslr, it's horrible sounding

  • I've never been to Bali, actually never even thought about going but this footage that you shot makes me want to plan my next vacation to go there. Thank you for the video

  • @supercurlygurl7 Thanks for the comments! I'm glad this video helped you

  • Nice video!

    I miss Bali.

  • @ViviendoCorea Thanks! I miss it too! Definitely going back some day

  • Nice video mate, brings back memories of Bali. I was wondering how you managed to get the sound from your phone to the clips and was there a special AP or program that you used for the recording.

  • @rjgraphicsAU thanks! all smart phones should have a recording app, i just recorded it to there, and sync'ed it back to my computer when i got home. then you can either manually sync the audio to the video, or use software like pluraleyes whicih will sync it automatically for you.

  • Very good video although I find the 50mm lens is not always the right choice. A wide angle lens would be much better for landscape shots! But good work

  • @iMauriceTV cool then those lenses should work for your application. i've looked into tamron lenses but most people say sigma/canon is better quality wise. start saving up, it's an expensive hobby!

  • @iMauriceTV That's a lot of different material so you'll need versatility. I'm going to assume you're on a dslr with a cropped sensor (i.e. NOT a 5d mark 2). if that's the case I'd recommend getting 3 lenses, in this order. It'll also depend on your budget so I have some different priced ones:

    1. Sigma 17-50 or Canon 17-55 (most versatile lens)

    2. Sigma 70-200 OS or Canon 70-200 L (for interviews/tech/youtube videos)

    3. Sigma 30mm or Canon 35mm L (both f1.4), for low light footage

  • @iMauriceTV what type of footage will you be shooting?

  • @iMauriceTV Thanks! Yes I'd recommend Premiere Pro CS 5.5, it is what I currently use for DSLR editing. It conforms any footage to the settings that you prefer. Check out my website, most of my videos on there were made using premiere pro cs5.5

  • is it humid there? i want to go in nov for 3 weeks..30HR IN FLIGHT total...is it worth it? i been to hawwi, and want to go oh and......and i LOVE how the background is out of focus!!!!!music....its looks better then most stuff i seen on tv!!!!!! AWSOME JOB!!!!

  • @vacationboyvideos thanks for the comments! yes, it's humid there. in my opinion it is worth the 30 hour flight. I flew around 28 hours myself to get there. make sure you get your itinerary together before you go there so you can have the fullest experience. make sure to give yourself time to see all parts of the island not just one city.

  • @vacationboyvideos i guess its humid humid...argh....yes i so want to go....i might waite till another part of the year(less rain) plus with hotel and all its almost 3 grande....argh! but i belife you say its worth it...most say bali is a MAJICAL place! i am on and off RAW VEGAN...and came across your video....if you are still on raw....stay with it! when i go off, i get moody...deff a better heath differnce on RAW. PEACE to you:)

  • @vacationboyvideos yes i'd recommend waiting for the dry season, we got caught in a couple of rainstorms. the good thing is when it rains it's still warm. i think the best thing to do is go with other people who like to go out and do lots of things so you can make the best use of your time. i am on and off raw myself

  • beautiful video. <3

  • @nassondasilva thanks!

  • Beautifully shot !! Im hoping to collect the 50 1.8 for my 7D in a couple days time to use mainly for portraits and wedding jobs. I know for sure its IQ is superb.. I figure I'd try it first to see if I like the focal length and may be invest in the Sigma 30 1.4 or the Canon 1.4 later on.. I've been hearing lots if great stuff about the Sigma, I'm a bit skeptical about getting a bad copy though..once more, great job on your video!!

  • @STEPPHAN7 Thanks! I have the Sigma 30 1.4 - focal length is much more useful on a crop body for what I use it for. The 50mm 1.8 I found myself constantly having to step back - I ended up selling it. Personally I'd avoid the Canon 50 1.4, I know a few people who have owned it, and they've all had the auto focus break on them. It's a good lens, however the durability is a little suspect. Read the reviews on Amazon, about 1/3 have had it break on them within a year or so.

  • Sick, I was thinking about buying this thing, but now i'm really sure, i have the canon 600d too.

  • @GeertenTeachYouDance you mean the 50mm 1.8? it's a great lens. I sold mine to upgrade to the 50mm 1.4 - wasn't worth the upgrade in my opinion! should have saved up for the 50mm 1.2

  • @arthurwoo So the 1.2 is a very good lens too? if it makes much difference between the 50mm 1.8 i will buy that one.

  • @GeertenTeachYouDance the 1.2 is one of the best prime lenses i think...however it's around $1600. if you are on a budget i'd stick with the 1.2. If you're on a crop lens, i'd look at the sigma 30mm 1.4, that's the equivalent of the 50mm right now since i'm using a canon 60d at the moment

  • @GeertenTeachYouDance Most Canon users will say the 50mm f1.2 is probably the best prime lens in the set. It really depends on what you're trying to film/take photos of though. If you're new to photography, I would recommend the 50mm f1.8. If you have a lot of money to spend and want the best, the 50mm 1.2 would be a good way to spend it!

  • Amazing video! Production quality was superb and the information about this area was extremely helpful. Thank you!

  • @chanderson1 thanks I appreciate the comments!

  • I agree! Thanks for the comments!

  • For such a cheap lens, it does a magnificent job! Love all the footage you took! :)

  • Beautiful video! i had my self 600D and i stayed in Ubud :)

if you come back to Bali, you should try go to Balangan Beach in Uluwatu, it's quiet and wide blue ocean my friend have a cottage there too, Kecak Dance in Uluwatu Hills is the best, with a sunset in front of you! another option go to Blue Lagoon Beach in Karang Asem. if you stay in Ubud try go to KUE cafe in Ubud Raya, best cakes in town! well hope you enjoy Bali!

  • @ercdee thanks for all the information! i plan on going back to Bali in the future :)

  • Absolutely loved the video..Thank you so much for taking my on your beautiful journey.

  • @Meekina1 thanks :)

  • @arthurwoo

Thx for the quick reply , i've just watch this video , and wow the quality of tge video is outstanding , what hd mide did u use to record and upload to youtube ? 1080p / 720p ? And also in 30fps or in 60fps ? Did u use any software to smoothen this video quality or any app to convert the video to smaller size and upload to youtube ? Or just upload direct from memory card to youtube ?

Gotta tell u bali is getting awesome from year to year .

  • @jliverty no problem! recorded the whole thing at 1080p, at 24fps, 1/50 shutter speed. this was all edited in iMovie - no other plugins/programs were used, all the footage is straight from the camera. i copied all the files from the camera to my computer, then edited from my computer. i don't use iMovie anymore so i don't remember which settings i used - i think it was h.264.

  • @arthurwoo Fricken awesome clip! How long was the edit? And what editing software do you use now and why ;)Thx a bunch!

  • @knuddel123 Thanks! The editing only took a few hours since I most of the footage I got was crap LOL, so it made it easy to choose the right ones. This one was made with iMovie of all things! Audio done through an iphone! Shows you can shoot on a low budget. I'm doing other things on Premiere Pro CS5.5 right now with some higher end gear, but this video was simple to make!

  • Hi i would like to ask about the video , it said 600d can only record the video in mono audio from out of box , is that true ?

  • @jliverty hi! yes, the internal mic on the camera is mono. if you want stereo i believe using the jack for an external mic will give you stereo. i no longer own the 600d as i upgraded so i can't check for sure on the 2nd point

  • Awesome video Arthur....

  • @vikrambansod4 thanks!

  • Where would you recommend to stay in Bali?

  • @GanEdenAustralia Hi - it depends - what part of Bali are you visiting?

  • im guessing you used your phone to record audio? because the audio on the camera sucks

  • @tmlproductions yup, while the phone is not much better; it still beats the camera's native audio

  • 10:15 Lemukih is my village... There are several amazing waterfalls that waiting to explore.. You can contact me to find local people that can guide you to that spot!!... :D

  • very nice.. are you using the standard lens?

  • @enoonmai76 50mm f1.8 - it was a good lens for the trip.

  • Awesome video Arthur. Looks like an amazing adventure.
