  • wow this one has some unexpected twang for a mahagony guitar !

  • what is the name of first song?

  • @MrKeltset I

    It`s only Blues gedudele

  • Does it feel like a Gibson whatsoever?

  • after 1:04 is that from any song you could find tabs for? well played!

  • @coupe662

No no song only Blues improvisation

  • after 1:04 is that from any song you could find tabs for? well played!

  • wow, klingt ja schön twangy, ordentlich punch. oder hast du einen compressor zwischen?

  • @leveelevee

    keinen Kompressor

  • hast du diene tonabnehmer ...erweitert oder ausgetauscht ?

oder sind das noch die Werksabnehmer?

    guute Review

  • @Externbrink09

    Werkstonabnehmer

  • @Nagromman

    its the standard--single coil-

  • I freakin love my melody maker

  • Nice. Plus the guy looks like fabio capello. Lol or however you spell his name

  • @MrSoapy147

its interesting--my anchestors are from Italy

  • Buy the Gibson it is made in the USA and never loses its value. The older and more worn it gets the more its worth.

  • Exscellent dmo of the tonal range of this simple but very elegant and versatile little guitar - made in the USA as well. Really affordable!

  • It sounds like a good guitar, but does it stay in tune all the time???

  • @ThePinkFloydPig This is the only electric guitar I have but it stays tune better than my martin acoustic and offbrand acoustic. I tune it a lot more tfrom changning environments than it just nauturally doing out of tune from play.

  • @ThePinkFloydPig

Yes--didn t have any problems with that

  • Sir, this was an excellent demonstration of a lovely instrument. Thank you.

Now I need to come up with the money to buy one for myself!

  • @mcgoodle

    Thanks

  • That sounds wicked. Looking for a guitar up to about 400 quid and this one is standing way above the rest in the running at the moment. Plus it's a gibson and that can only be a good thing:P Can anyone suggest any better guitars up to £400 in cost?

  • does the paint melts in your hand while you play the guitar?

  • @junieWB

  • Comment removed

  • @junieWB

    no problems with that

  • can you switch the tone much using the tone nob?

  • @TheSchoolsux345

yes you can but I dont use this often

  • I must pawn off my crappy guitars so I can get this.

I'll slap a Bigsby on there and a tele pickup in the neck.

It will kill most teles and strats too.LOVE that thin body mahogany tone with single coils....what a marriage:)

  • slap a maestro on, go really vintage.

im pawning my tele as well for this, good luck.

  • Blues Tone

    I like it!

  • This will be my next buy.

Nice playing en greetings from Belgium

  • schöne gitarre .. vorallem spreiswert.

  • that was awesome! you sure know how to play the blues

  • Good blues

    when active dist pedal

The Gibson singlecoil no makes noise ?

    From Italy

  • sehr schön (transl.: very beautiful for everyone else in here ;))

  • Hi,

im aout to buy a guitar, I NEED A CLEAN SOUND!

And i dont know which one i have to buy, i dont have so much money, so i decided, to...

This guitar, a gibson melody maker,

    OR a

    Epiphone Les Paul 100

    Please, somebody helpme

  • Hi,

    Buy the melody maker.

Its a Gibson, made in USA.

If you sell it again you will loose no money.

    Thats my advice

    Greetings, Werner.

  • @2w4v

I tried one in a store through a VOX ac15cc and it KILLED every guitar in the store with that amp.

Thin Mahogany, mahogany & rosewood neck and thin nitrocellulose(LOVE the finnish) gave it warmth and tons of bloom(sponginess, chunkiness, whatever you call it)and pickup was punchy, balnced and clear as a bell.

I normally hate ceramic pups but in that guitar it sounded super sweet and clear, nice punch too.

My AC15 has an alnico Red Fang and will sound even smoother than store amp.

  • For a cleaner sound, get the Melody maker. The Epiphone is a damn good guitar, but the MM is made by Gibson so it will be more durable and have a longer life. MM's are great for a clean sound.

  • @kikekiss I would prefer a telecaster if you want a great clean sound

  • @kikekiss I'm in same position - but reviews for the LP 100 suggested all sorts of problems with the reliability of pickups, yuners, finish etc.

  • My grandpa's giving me a 1971 (I think) Gibson Melody Maker with double cutaway and double pickups. It needs repair but it used to be in a old hippy band with psychedelic paint on it, which was taken off. Sweet video BTW.

  • Sorry, 1961 or '62

  • gibsons strat

  • sounds much like a Tele

  • i'd put two humbuckers in there

  • that would kinda take away the melody maker thing wouldnt it

  • well its like a 400 dollar gibson usa guitar i'd definitely personalize it

  • i suppose , i just think it would be too much like a les paul with too humbuckers , but i see where your coming from.

  • well once all is bought it would be like 600 dollars and for that much i could just buy a better prs. so i probably wouldn't even buy it

  • if you accually put up the distortion it really screams for a single coil.

  • i would like it better with a humbucker

  • Now THATs a nice guitar sound.

  • I've this guitar white e 1 pick up..... sounds is Gibson..... beautiful video man

  • i have a quiestion

    is the neck fat

becuse i want to buy that EXACT guitar

  • Not particulary fat... good play man

  • Sounds good, but how does that pickup compare to a P90 pickup?

  • I have a Melody Maker with a P90 too.

Sound is more singing but do not underestimate these Gibson SCs-- I have a

Gibson SG with SCs and it sounds great

    like they were Humbuckers.

  • is it possible, to put a p-90 into a melody maker????

  • Yes,with a litlle craftsman skill its no big problem to change the pickup.

  • is this guitar better that the epiphone les paul standard?

  • Absolutely yes. Got mahogany body and neck (not cheaper wood quality), handbuilt at nashville, just with poor finishing, but nitro painted ecc... There's no comparison in terms of quality but they're 2 completely different sounding type guitars. If you want this guitar only because you want a les paul style guitar with the gibson name on the headstock don't buy it...it's just ridiculous. If you dig the sound you deserve to play it.

  • i think mm got a great bluesy sound and still preety good distorcioned. i just ask it because they cost the same, and i think that epiphone lp standard costs even more than the mm. so you think i should buy mm?

  • In MY opinion, absolutely yes. But again it's a matter of taste, personally I prefer single coils, and the one on the melody maker is awesome, I like it more than the p90 mountend on the older versions. On the other hand there's no doubt that the epiphone has less quality in construction, woods, hardware etc even if they're priced more than the m.m....Now is up to you and your ears;)

  • thank you

  • so you were a little kid a year and a half ago when this vid was posted? I don't see you making any videos better than this.

  • this guitar is on its way to my house from germany woohoo i cant wait it sounds beautiful here

  • This video is making me one to get one, hope it makes a good sound from my crappy speaker.

  • i love that single coil gibson sound. its quite unique.

  • I just added a MM to my collection, I got it new for 250.00. I run it through a Blues Junior with a Tube Screamer. I keep the tone control all the way off.

  • Where did you get it?

  • Cream City Music,Milwaukee WI. It's an awesome Vintage Guitar Store.

  • Lemme tell you all, swap that pickup out for a humbucking single-coil of your choosing, it will scream.

You'd also think those tuners would stink. Oddly, for being near-original spec vintage, they hold tune even after some shred. Much better than die-cast and a lot of non-locking tuners that I've jammed on.

I'm not a troll, man, but I just thought I'd let ya know.

  • Nice playing man.. killer tone!

  • No suprise, it sounds like a telecaster. not bad but a tele probably feels a "little" better.

  • It doesn't feel like my American Standard Tele, however the feel is still cool, very raw, it's makes you work.

  • for the ones who asked if MM is good for punk or metal: I wouldn't reccomand for metal, but i think it rawks for punk-garage rock n roll.

Green Day's Billie Joe uses a Les Paul Junior, that must be better, but very similar to a MM and it sounds nice, you can hear in songs like Church on Sunday,Blood Sex and Booze,Waiting...

A lot of bands into punk-garage uses that...like detroit cobras, joan jettes...a lot ehehe

  • little correction, bj uses les paul junior , but i think MM is the "lowbudjet" version for it...hope im not wrong now ahahah

  • I think that they were both low-budget, entry-level guitars. I'm actually not quite sure Gibson introduced the Melody Maker after the Les Paul Jr., they seem really similar: lightweight body, one single-coil pickup (although I think the jr had a P90 and the MM something unique). Actually, looking at the dates, the MM was introduced about the time they seem to have been phasing out the Jr. So original Juniors are from the 50s, MM from the 60s (ish).

  • this seems like a great guitar!

and the price is so cheap..

i'm so undecided, melody maker or telecaster?????'

  • I'm going for the Melody Maker, but that's partially because my favorite band is the Libertines and Doherty's Epiphone Coronet is fuck-off expensive, not to mention rare.

  • are you ganna buy a mim tele or what

  • mim?

    you mean made in mexico?

mmm it depends,i think i m going for an american made, but i really enjoy mm or gibson les paul junior more :d

expecially if they ve got P-90 pickups in it, they rawk!

  • yeah im getting this guitar soon im about half way there but yeha this guitar would be good for old school stuff like the ramones

  • you should look into gettin a gibson coronet their very expensive but they have a better 'twang' then any tele ive ever played and the trebble you can get on them is truelly amazing specially for what was suppose to be an entry level guitar about 40 years ago

  • Awesome I will check them out, I just bought a MM this week for 250.00 new. It was the 1st guitar my parents bought for me 40 years ago.

  • can u get hard rock sounds out of the melody maker cause i want one but i mainly play hard rock some1 plse reply

  • Hi,

    I`m not playing Hardrock songs.

I`m sorry but can`t give you a proper advice

    for that.

    Regards, Werner

  • Depends. I know the original 1959 Melody Maker is Carl Barat's favorite guitar; so if you're into punk (be it the Clash or the Libertines), then this might be for you. "Hard rock", though, I'm not so sure about.

  • is the 2007 melody maker almost the same as carls main melody maker. and do you know any pedal he used in the libertines and now in dirty pretty thing.

  • The Libertines never used many pedals. Barat used the MXR Dynacomp to boost solos, not sure about in the DPT.

  • he uses the same pedals through a old vox, whilst the other fellas uses gibson coronets in the studio but 335s when they play live. There was an interview with carl and the other bloke about their sound and equipment in guitar &bass about a year ago though the article might be on the guitar & bass site, it was really interesting and worth a read.

  • Any Distortion ???

  • Hi,

    I used a Marshall Bluesbreaker 2.

    First time with boost,

    second time with distortion.

    Regards, Werner

  • I'm more into Fender guitars but I have to admit... this guitar sounds nice! I want one! and its really cheap!

  • how does this guitar sound for metal or punk songs?

  • Hi,

    sorry but I dont know.

We dont play such songs and I personally have no experience with this type of music.

    By, Werner

  • it'd probably be good for punk but not metal

  • it's alright. i ended picking up a fender strat instead :)

  • klasse gespielt wenn ich mal so sagen darf!

hol ich mir auch bald die klampfe

  • I grabbed the cousin of this one, the one that costs a grand and demoed it and THOSE fret ends were awful.

Really you could just sand them down and re finish the neck. Paint and varnish are not worth 800 dollars ever.

  • I have an SG and a Melody Maker....the SG is nearly twice as heavy as the Melody maker.

I have a narrow leather jazz strap for the Melody Maker and it never bothers my shoulder. It's one of the lightest solid mahogany guitars that I've played.

Great guitar. They are great clean and great dirty. Warm little guitar.....a keeper.

  • easy to play

  • 2w4v-What are the fret ends like on this guitar? I read reviews that say they are sharp and it's hard to slide your hand on the neck. Thanks

  • thats not true

  • My Melody Maker did not have any flaws when I bought it new. The fret ends are smooth.

  • good tone.

  • Hi, I am about to buy the Melody Maker. But i am wondering.. How much does it weigh? I mean, I cant find anywhere online that tells me what the weight of it is. Do you know? And as far as quality, Would you recomend the Melody Maker?

  • yea mate uhhh try the gibson site it tells u everything

  • I would. It weighs as much as a regular sg

  • 200 euros??? they are £300 on ebay :(

  • i was looking at one in the shop 2day, they are nice, they are no performance guitar really tho, they are very light and are good for like solo or group jamming, i'm thinking of getting one, and for 200euros u can't really go wrong

  • powerfull tone!

  • Hi lastyearsmodel,

You did notice the right thing.

I changed the bridge because I always get difficulties if the strings are not adjusted properly. My ears get offended then.

I am sorry but I don`t know what kind of product this bridge is.

But I bought the cheapest one at ebay .

    And it is good.

    Hope this helps,

    greetings---Werner

  • yo, I might get this, or the Bob Marley epiphone. but is I get this I was thinking about doing my own work to put in a Tuno-matic bridge. do you think its worth it?

  • It looks as though you swapped out the bridge for one with adjustable saddles, as I was thinking of doing. Which one did you go with (so I don't have to poke around for the right one)?

  • yeah sure, the so famous epiphone sound everybody can recognize... dumbass...

  • It's in your head... you say it because of the price.

  • Hallo Genosse,

wo hast Du die Gitarre gekauft? Bei keinem größeren Händler ist sie vorrätig in Deutschland.

    Hast Du sie importiert?

  • i recently got a 07 MM with 2 lipstick PU's...these are amazing guitars very playable.

  • just great guitar for the money. Really really! Like an old Tele with the Gibby "aww" tone!

  • good sound!!

im going to buy this one!
