  • None of this crap mattered when the movies actually came out...I grew up on Disney...loved Disney and still love Disney. I never thought about racism, sexism. As far as Beauty and the Beast representing accepting violence because there's always a "prince inside" that's bull. There's so much more that it shows children...such as people can change and not to ever judge the outside appearance of a person. Disney is better than the rest of crap on TV and my children will grow up watching Disney.

  • Here is a simple way to solve your problem. Don't like it? Then don't watch it. See? Problem solved.

  • @LexaLynn18 yes cause ignorance is bliss isnt it?

  • @LexaLynn18 Thats like says "Racism, don't like it? just pretend its not happening!"

  • No matter what any one person believes, disney's agenda has been made clear...They're out to make money, not promote racism and sexism and take over the world with corporate influence. However, a five year old child will never understand that, and no matter how much you tell a child that these stories are fairytales, the unconscious messages they send DO and WILL stick with them to some extent... thank you for the info

  • I notice that this movie was made while Michel Eisner was in control Disney so I can see why this video has it's concerns. But Since Eisner is gone the harm can now be undone . . . but only time will tell.

  • Uncle Walt was more than cracked up to be.

Much more. Thank you for this, ChallengingMedia.

  • As much as I dislike Disney, what comic/cartoon/animated movie doesn't make females highly sexualized?

  • @Nigralurker Ponyo and The Illusionist

  • good lord. what a load of bullshit.

"waaaaa this is social engineering! its all wrong, therefore if we change it to suit our ideology then it ceases to become social engineering waaaaaa"

  • "They are incomplete without a man... why?"

Their original stories set the standard expectation for it, for one. Secondly, because traditionally, a man & woman fall in love. I know that's not contemporary, what with single women making strides in the world, but many women still like to date & even eventually marry, regardless of whether it be heterosexual, bisexual, or homosexual, which is itself dependant on the gender identity & sexual orientation they identify with.

  • "She should have been a princes form the start."

Whatever for? We saw enough of the wealthy princesses, so it was actually a change of pace to see one actually grow into royalty. Same with the white-skinned Rapunzel in Tangled, even though that movie was almost more about her love interest Flynn Rider & about twisting the classic fairy tale into basically a contemporary retelling, with Rapunzel as a kick-ass lady & Flynn as somewhat of a smug idiot.

  • "But look at Power Ranger... In Jungle Fury... THey had another chance, but NO. Blue is Asian and Red was White.. but when they Morphed, Red was shorter than Blue? WTF..!?"

Power Rangers IS a Japanese import dub of Super Sentai. You know this, right?

"Now, Samurai Rangers. They seam to favor the females... not us Asian Men. FUCK...!"

That's owned by Saban, who bought the Rangers back from Disney last year. That series also airs on Nick, a subsidary of Viacom, rival of Disney.

  • @Fifi: That's untrue. Disney's always been one of the first mega companies to promote diversity. Heck, for all the rumors of him being an anti-semantic, if he was truly anti-Jewish, he would NOT have hired Jewish persons to work on some of his projects. Besides, a lot of this is simply subjective & is dependant on the view one takes in discussing the issues. See, one person can watch Disney & turn out independant & open-minded, whilst another can simply follow the collective views presented.

  • "why none of the characters ever have parents around"

Read the classic fairy tales. They set the precedent.

"don't want my kid to sell her soul for popularity"

No one said she has to. But people can have opposing views & still be friends or at least, be civil towards each other. THAT is the true message to take away from anything family-oriented, Disney included. Not some deluded misrepresentation hating on the company for being successful.

  • Song of the South? Full of racism. And it was banned.~

Only in the US (it was released in the UK & elsewhere), because the NAACP got a stick up their ass about Walt turning Uncle Remus into a jolly African American "free man" in the Reconstruction era right after slavery was supposedly meant to be abolished.

  • *sarcasm* Oh yay...Look at these people criticizing Disney for romanticizing & glorifying classic fairy tales, most of which were written WORSE before Disney turned them into the happy endings considered as standard practice now (ex: The Little Mermaid committing suicide, Mougli killing Shere Khan & wearing him like a pelt, the--quote--Ugly Stepsisters mutilating their feet to squeeze into the glass slipper, etc.). */sarcasm*

  • what i really love about disney is the[ child ] slave labour they use to make their toys and books for our innocent little princes and princesses.

  • Seems to me if anything parents create these stereotypes, Disney writes/animates what sells. Pointing out racism in a pre-1970's disney movie isn't all that shocking, considering our society was extremely racist at that time, for example. Our society created the cultural values, Disney sells them in picture form.

  • I rather my kid listen to disney than that dyke

  • I grew up on Disney and barbie. When you're a girl those are the most popular things. I am a black female and being bombarded with constant standards of beauty and behavior as a child really did a number on my self esteem. Disney is an evil corporation and I want nothing to do with it. If I have a daughter she won't be watching Disney movies, playing with dolls, or dressing up in pink dresses. She'll have a chemistry set and watch Bill Nye the Science guy.

  • @arainade then she will be constantly baraded at school and turn out worse than you

  • @Since1907baby I don't want my kid to sell her soul for popularity. In fact, I want her to be a leader in the right direction. She will be intelligent enough to actually feel sorry for ignorance of the other children and won't want anything to do with them. I also think these days girls that wear pink dresses will be ridiculed and picked on more than those who dress unisex. In fact, I plan on sending my daughter to a private school to avoid most of that crap. If I ever have one.

  • @arainade i agree private school is important

  • @arainade Sheltering a child only prevents them from really, truly understanding the things you want her to stand again. Public schools are fine, just so long as you instill your child with the right tools and practice a constructive mindset. Support who your child is, don't have expectations of who they ought to be, and understand that he or she may not be the way you want them to be. To do otherwise is to set them up for failure.

  • @Since1907 worse then who? How do you know what kind of person she is...making ampathetic comments to prove a point is exactly whats going wrong with this country . Just shut up if you have nothing meaningful to say.

  • Calm down, your reading way way to much into Disney movies. Disney didn't even write most of the stories in the movies you mentioned. Like Tarzan for example, blame the author of the original story if you have a problem with Tarzan's race, not Disney for making it into a movie. I was a Disney addict when I little, and I never took home any of thous lessons they talked about. All kids see if a fairy tale.

  • I'm just curious why none of the main characters ever have both parents around?

  • this is so stupid is a media they make movies tv show and have theme parks. i love disney movies but if you don't then don't watch the movies or go to the them parks. plus there are disney princess of every colorso i dont get the racist thing there taking about. and as for the women whats wrong with being skinny doesnt everyone want to be healthy.

  • @newcartoontv 1.It's something to fight because it's so popular and we don't want kids getting bad msgs.

2.The people of color do not really represent their heritage. Most times, they keep to western customs despite having their own (Al & Jasmine's wedding).

3.Being that skinny is not only unhealthy but impossible. I swear, with the 'you must be skinny' msg that's portrayed even at that young age, it's no wonder a lot of young girls are anorexic and/or depressed.

Just a few points to think on.

  • @stogucheme being skinny is healthy and the people of color are represented in a posetive light. plus just because something is popular doesnt mean its bad

  • @newcartoontv Actually it's been shown that people who are overweight, NOT obese, live longer life spans than those who are average, underweight and obese.

  • @volleychiq15 Uh, really? How about some evidence to support this bold claim. Last I checked overweight people are at significantly higher risk for GI disorders, heart disease, atherosclerosis, stroke, etc. "It's been shown" is not very convincing. Underweight isn't healthy either, but average (healthy) weight is ideal.

  • @marshall8787 Uh, really? How about some evidence to support your claim. "Last I checked" is not very convincing. Hypocrite. Youtube doesn't allow you to post URLs otherwise I would have posted many sources. You can find them if you search google.

  • Disney is just a pure greedy corporation in fact there so greedy they raised there one day park passes to $87 each. even tho there parks alone make almost a Billion dollars a year. apparently the bad economy doesn't effect Disney so if you want to save your kids from the Disney Disease don't take them to see there new Movies every 2 weeks or any music owned by Disney. also we need another popular company to counter Disney's parks maybe Nintendo and Sega can join forces to build one...?

  • -c- White supremacy in Tarzan? Are you serious? Tarzan was not written by Disney. They just took yet another story in the world and animated it for money. Within the past 20 years Disney really started to branch out and made Pocahontas, Aladdin/Jasmine, Mulan, and finally Tiana. It's sad it took so long but we now have a Princess(and Prince) for every child to relate to. In short, Disney's movies teach children great values WITH PARENTAL Guidance and I guarantee my kids will see them too.

  • -c- what society did. Song of the South? Full of racism. And it was banned. Years later, we have the sweet fables like Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Happy stories (mainly for girls) to believe in a prince charming and happy endings. Every Disney movie has a positive message in some form and that's what sticks with the child. No child looks at Beauty and the Beast and thinks 'Domestic Abuse!' They learn not to judge by appearance. Belle saw an amazing person in the Beast. -c-

  • It's so easy when you are older to find the flaws and blame Disney (or any other media) for the fucked up world/views we see today. But it is NOT their fault. It is always the parents' fault. I grew up watching Disney movies (own most of them), listening to their tapes, playing with their toys, and wearing their clothes. I am a well rounded person with very open-minded views. What people fail to realize is that Disney has been around for decades and just like most animations, it reflected -c-

  • Watching this makes me a bit sad and disappointed. There are good points brought up about the dangerous message The Beauty and The Beast promotes. I have never thought about this until now, but our minds have been molded at such a young age that we're blinded to these subliminal messages that have influenced us. What I found most disappointing is the fact that it ultimately is always about money, even with the trusted company of Walt Disney.

  • i love disney. i cant deny that at all, and my kids are probably gonna watch the same disney movies i watched too. disney media cant corrupt children all by there selfs, the parents had to let something like that happen in my opinion.

but on another note, i heard if you act out of character at disneyland you get fired. Anybody know if that's true??

  • @xffokcufxXx From what I've experienced of corporate culture, that more than likely IS true. Management -especially managers & mid-level supervisors- can't stand a free & open mind. I actually was once referred to as a "Communist" by some anal-retentive, uptight project co-ordinator.

  • Oh, and before it's brought up, I have a highly independent mindset. I don't think I need a man to complete me or save me, I can make my own money, and I plan to adopt children whether I'm married or not. The "type" of guy that I like is not the meathead type, either.

  • Maybe it's just me, but I never paid any attention to what color skin the characters had. I had nearly every Barbie doll ever made that was based on a Disney character, and if I recall, my favorites were Jasmine and Esmerelda (sp?). My favorite normal Barbie was the "Latina" (Teresa?). Then again, I've always been one who tried to see past skin color and cultural differences. I also owned all of the Disney Princess movies, and saw every Disney movie made from the 1980s on, & I grew up just fine.

  • In all honesty -whenever I watch Disney movies or programmes I had never had these thoughts about black people being bad or being all flirty with guys ... it's just amusing to watch.

I mean ariel, jasmine all the disney princesses -to me they were who I wanted to be when i grew up [not now] ...i mean because of little mermaid i love swimming, because of aladdin and beauty and the beast i learned not to be prejudice..

kind of twisted letting everyone 'know' about these things NOW than before.

  • @FiliPak24 But look at Power Ranger... When Disney took over during Ninja Storm, there were a good amount of Asians, but... no Asian Red Ranger. WHY? He was Pacific Islander. They don't accept themselves as Asians, even if WE want to... they wont. In Jungle Fury... THey had another chance, but NO. Blue is Asian and Red was White.. but when they Morphed, Red was shorter than Blue? WTF..!? Now, Samurai Rangers. 1 female Asian girl. They seam to favor the females... not us Asian Men. FUCK...!

  • @dchyang true -.- but apparently us asian girls have more sex appeal because of our eyes or something

...but that's other girls who dress up like whores..i'm still 14 xD Any ways, in my opinion asians are awesome, whites are awesome, black people are awesome even a worm is awesome so i don't see why they like doing this white supremacy shit

  • @FiliPak24 Because the business has always been racist. They prefer Asian females more because they want to show white dominant over us Asian Males. Like, white guys are better ladies, so leave your Asian Men. In fact, all females, don't bother with Asian men. Disney wants to portray the white supremacy over all. Of course that's false. That's not reality. Their trying to get into little kids mind. So, are my little nephew's not good enough to match up with White Kids? Disney is not all that.

  • America makes too many films. Disney makes one every ten minutes, and we just take them like sealions do with fish. But then, all the UK does is make films about East End gangsters, Simon Pegg's ego or both.

Oh, and Catherine Zeta-Jones? Youre WELSH, not American.

  • héhè_ÂÑYÒñE_wÀÑnÅ_chàt_wîth_mÉ_í_fÊEl_s0_lônèly_tOÐay~

  • this is a downright skewed video.

  • I kind of see these people as wolves in sheep's clothing.

  • I think WE are the one who try to stereotype everything .Because Kids dont see the color of the skin, they just see people.

If Disney is giving us racist and sexist values, then why we didnt grow up to racistic and sexistic assholes?

And maybe disney nowadays only want money but the movies in the past are still lovely drawn and told stories.

    (sorry for my english)

  • @Vika2 Totally agree.

  • according to the Politically Correct, everything is either racist or sexist or both. I'm not exactly Disney's biggest fan, but I can see that a film without black people in it isn't exactly "racist".

Kid's don't even notice that they are different colours. When I was 5 I didn't talk about my "black friends" because they were just "friends". So who do you think is making kids aware of their differences? It's the PC brigade who won't shut the fuck up about our skin colour.

  • @artifactingreality You're an expert on the "politically correct", child development and psychology? Lucky us! I agree we should shut those pinko PC Nazi's up, and if they don't like it; lock 'em up or hang them! Everyone knows racism is a myth that never existed before television and communism! And if people watch Disney to the exclusion of of culture, that's because people are perfectly rational and have an unlimited choice, so they choose what they see as the superior cultural pursuit! >.<

  • I'm very skeptical on how this documentary is made. How old is this? Apperantely is was made before The Princess and the Frog. One girl said they didn't see a black person in Disney movie that is good? What Disney movie portrays a black character as bad? Did I miss something? Tarzan promoting white supremecy? Who directed this documentary anyways? I am still unsure what the conclusion is.

  • im a mad dog anti-corporate.but disney is not on my hitlist.this vid is dribble.if your far loose weight it will kill youor youll be subject to the pharma companys.yoga can help.the body needs stetched to better circulation. i know i was a blimp.the food is crap these days.eat out little.disney was a prick, the idea can be expanded over time4 better.

  • YO this video sucks my professor made me watch this and write a paper on it and i wanted to kill myself the whoe video.

  • Oh please. Some of this crap on here is REALLY overly analytical. MOST of these movies are based on classic fairytales or stories. You cant even compare the racial sensitivity of older disney to modern disney. I loved Beauty and the Beast as a child because Bell was actually well read and didnt put up with crap like assholes like Gaston.

  • Comment removed

  • Oops! Wrong reply! XD

  • Complete bull**** about beast. Since when did he smack, kick, stomp her to the ground with 'abuse'? Since when did she actually take his crap other than at the beginning when she was a little shocked scared?

The message of Beauty and the Beast was the beast isn't always the evil bad guy and 'handsome' people aren't always the good ones. Did you not understand that? Or are you juts nitpicking and bits and pieces to make an idiotic point that makes no sense?

And yes, I know this vid is old. lol

  • @kirabook Yeah, they really took the Beast out of context. Plus, Disney made many animated films based on literature older than their company. Those stories are a product of their time, not when Disney made them films.

  • @robinkom

Exactly. I'm actually writing a paper all about this. Disney surely 'babyfies' all the stories it retells. I could see if they complained about The Little Mermaid of something where she actually died or another interpretation that she killed Prince Eric so that she wouldn't be turned into sea foam by the sea witch. I mean, they complain about Disney, yet, what do the expect children to watch and not be influenced? Old school westerns where they shoot everyone up? I mean really. >.>

  • @kirabook As a child, I watched Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry. Cartoon violence aplenty but I wasn't so dense to think I could get away with any of it myself. The kids that are too dimwitted to not emulate violent behavior they see on TV weren't disciplined enough by their parents. I hence will always blame the parents, especially the lazy ones and the ones that look for an industry scapegoat for their own ineptness at raising their little lemmings.

  • @kirabook you're actually wrong here The Beast locks Belle in her room saying if she won't come out and sit with him, she is not allowed to eat. There is a lot of domestic abuse in the film both physical and emotional. He traps her! All of you sitting here defending this and saying it is overly analytical have just never taken a real hard look at what the stories from our childhood (not just Disney) instill in us.

  • @heidishoshana

Yes. Okay he tells her she can't come out. Sure, but what I really didn't like about this was they COMPLETELY failed to mention Gaston.

Beast was a pretty jerky at first, but the film isn't focused on 'domestic violence'.

I don't like how they ignored that Belle wasn't like every hussy in town fawning over the 'handsome' guy who is the biggest sexist ever and how he was all over her like he owned her.

  • @heidishoshana

I never said Beast wasn't completely in the wrong, but can you honestly say you would have rathered her not have met Beast and found someone who wasn't all that good looking but she could actually enjoy being with? Would you have rather her given in to someone like Gaston who is much worse than Beast could hope to be? The real moral of the story is not to judge a book by its cover. That lesson is what got Beast into his situation in the first place.

  • @kirabook how is Gaston much worse? Sure, he hunts for his food, and he has girls who are attracted to him, and he has a bit of an ego, but he never shouted at Belle or tried to hurt or keep her prisoner... the moral of the story is don't judge a book by its cover... because you don't have to when you are a pretty passive female character who should stay with a man no matter how he treats her because deep down, he's a prince who will keep you in his castle forever.

  • @heidishoshana

Did you skip an entire part of the movie? He forced himself into her house, he was invading her personal space countless times, he tried to send her father to a mental home just so he could get with her. The 'Handsome Prince' is Gaston. Getting with the guy who obviously has all the cash, the looks & everything else & only thinks she's worth it because she's pretty. That's not what she wanted or was looking for.

  • @kirabook listen, i was trying to make a point, I'm not saying either of them was a good person. but Gaston never trapped her and hurt her.

  • @heidishoshana

I would like for you to point out a specific point where Beast touched her very roughly and or verbally abused her? Please? C8

  • @kirabook Belle is trapped in a house by a "monster"--he tells her he can give her everything, make her happy, but she is forcibly separated from family, friends, etc.-- isolated in the castle, the same way abusive husbands/boyfriends isolate the women the abuse

  • @heidishoshana

She completely rejects him when he steps out of line and even locked herself in her room. No help from him. I think you forget, it was her that agreed to the deal to save her father. She didn't meet Beast on the street, fall in love with him & move in with him & end up trapped. It was a situation that involved a hint of fantasy. After he proves he isn't so evil and heartless after all. Not with words or 'favors', but a life and death situation that again, is just a fairy tale.

  • @kirabook right so he threatens her... and eventually coerces her, makes her feel as if she has no choice but to stay if she wants to save her father.

you're in over your head here honey, just let it go

  • @kirabook watch specifically the video with "killing us softly 4" in the title

  • @heidishoshana

Yes, I've watched that one too. Yet, in no way did I or would I or most of anyone except very... vulnerable would relate a Disney girl to themselves.

Like a said, a real woman displayed on TV or in magazines would have much more effect on me if I were so easily influenced.

  • @kirabook it's not about whether or not it's a real person... it's the fact that this movie and other Disney movies are heralded as the sorts of things that children should see and absorb and are wonderful and harmless and wholesome... which is not the case. just as children's toys influence the way we think about things, girls with their little kitchen sets, boys with their tonka trucks... these are "fake" things, but still very influential. also... children ARE vulnerable! and impressionable!

  • Would you rather you're children be reading an adult magazine seeing fake photoshopped models of men and women that just leak sexuality and what some girl 'should' be looking like, or some imaginary fantasy character portrayed in an unrealistic cartoon? These images of what girls should do and what boys should do existed long before Disney was created. So why is it suddenly Disneys fault a little girl would rather dream of being a princess rather than a 'house wife' labeled a womans?

  • @heidishoshana

I don't like how Disney is suddenly one of the main problems in childrens behavior. This sexist behavior has been around many generations before us and will continue that way. Disney may not be helping for the cause, but it's not hurting either. Mulan, a pretty perfect example isn't even a princess, though her whole family was trying to make her become one. Instead, she stood up for herself and proved she can do just as well or better than any man can.

  • @heidishoshana

Mulan wasn't a super over sexulaized woman nor was anyone truly fawning over her beauty. And though she was told she can't do 'manly things' she did it anyway and succeeded. Is that teaching a bad message to you? As a child, a child will grown out of things and learn. Just like Santa Claus, just like the Boogey man in your closet. Its a bit silly to think girls will forever think girls are meant to be princesses.

  • @kirabook i'm not talking about all of disney... of course there are exceptions to the rule. and if these values don't carry through with us then you tell me why women are still so obsessed with their appearance, are the victims of so much gender violence and domestic abuse, why our gender is commodified and our country is a rape prone one, the least safe country for women in the developed world. women are encouraged to be overly passive. it's the ideal ... we want a man to pay and propose.

  • I agree with you on this point and am no way going to argue you on it. I don't like how the world is today. I don't like how some women, especially of the younger generation of mine have strange views on who and how people should be & act in society. It frightens me how much worse it can become. But the point I was mostly trying to make before as this critics seem to be trying to instill into the watchers is Disney is not the source of all evil... C8

  • @kirabook she still needed a man in the end to feel valid. Pretty much all Disney heroines do. They are incomplete without a man... why?

  • @heidishoshana children dress up as these princesses for halloween, and for their birthday parties, the disney princesses are idealized by little girls... there are young girls who want so much to be a princess when they grow up, and these disney female protagonists shape their ideal of what that is.

  • She went with the guy who wasn't handsome or 'nice'. Misunderstood angry rather than abusive psycho he's label as. And even if that was the case. Disney isn't 'teaching me' the next abusive man I meet is a handsome prince on the inside & I have to find it. I've been watched this movie since I was young, that was never ever the message. I understood some good looking people are jerks, some ugly people can be nice. I shouldn't just decide good looking = good guy & ugly = evil and abusive.

  • @kirabook Disney is not corrupting the youth, Disney is an obvious symptom and perpetrator of a culture that values innocence and passivity in its women and excuses anger and violence in men.

  • @heidishoshana

What today doesn't? This happens much more in regular movies, music, videos. EVERYTHING. Which are children most likely to be influenced by? A Deformed looking mouse who happens to look manly smoking or a live action movie who has a character who happens to look manly smoking? A mouse deformed woman character who shakes her hips too much or a real woman in a movie that does the same? These are children movies & unrelated issues are being implanted into them by over analyzing.

  • @kirabook children are influenced by everything, these movies make up the memories of our childhood and whether you like to admit it or not, movies, even cartoon ones, influence our ideas of gender roles. the more sexist television or movies a child watches, the more likely that child is to take in these roles and accept them as the norm especially because these roles are reflected not only in movies, but in their parents, friends, and society. don't tell me that it is unrelated.

  • This tale wasn't remade saying 'This will teach little girls they will have to accept abuse by their princes but it's all okay'. It depends on whose watching and what they want to see. They want to see someone being abused, sure they can make it up that way. Doesn't mean that is what is being told. I said before I grew up with this film, & this has not made it any easier to accept something like abuse is okay because abuse doesn't exist in this film.

  • @kirabook watch some of the other videos from this channel, then come back to me and talk about media influence on society.

  • @heidishoshana

Oh, I've already subscribed to this channel long ago sweetie and have watched a many good videos this channels supplies. But, I suppose we can stop here if you like. ;D

  • @molink23 but there just movies why do people have to go all into detail on a movie! all movies do that same thing, what are you going to do next complain that kids should listen to rap because it talks about cheating and sex or that you can't play with barbie because a man created her and its a fake image for young kids. There kids they don't know any better and when they get older they will see these things, but for now let there imagition soar.

  • Let the kids think that one day there prince will come!

  • @SuperJonasfan4life.....yeah let them think that, then when he does come, because she's so stuck on that fairy tale she stays with a man who is abusive, another girl dead because of patriarchy (aka man over woman), im not saying all Disney is bad, u just have to know what yur up against. A quote i read sums it up nicely "for every loss there is a gain, and for every gain there is a loss" aka for entertainment you get a pycosis/habits/ideas that aren't wholesome, and vice versa...hmmm

  • What about the music now in these days and plus these are just movies you don't need to go to far into something as a movie! yes they can be racial or stereotyping a certain group, but how i see it is they base a certain movie on a time period, what is going on around at them time. For example cinderella. That is how peope viewed women as people who should stay home and clean house, but now thats not how we see them. It's just movies get over it and move on.

  • i watched this video today in my psyc class and hated this movie to death! i was like really not all villians are black let me see: captain hook (white), beauty and the beast (white), 101 dalmations (white) and the list goes on. I hate how people think that disney is a bad influence on kids and that they are so racial! there just movies every movie does the same thing, even music does the same thing. So what this is saying is that kids can't watch disney movies because it can ruin there minds.

  • I remember being a little girl and loving disney princesses, but being sad because not one of them even remotely resembled myself. I am African American.

  • i heard of it. Disney has been around for nearly one hundred years that is the first movie depicting a black princess. Also i said 'most' because there are a (few) films that cast a black non villan but for the most part especialy in early disney, darker characters where bad, ignorant or sterialtypical like little lulu

  • sorry but most disney movies has the darker character being bad. Notice Mufasa's brother Scar or Snow White's stepmother

  • @jej1100 Have you SEEN Princess and the Frog??

  • That woman is not watching the same Beauty and the Beast I grew up with. It just goes to show, people will make problems for themselves.

  • where can i get this entire film?? Mickey Mouse Monopoly: Disney, Childhood and Corporate Power

  • THATS SO RIGHT!

  • More feminists and liberals moaning about another group's right to free speech. Typical.People like these douches just have a morbid hated for corporations becuase they could never amount to the success that businessmen have had in the free market. They combat this by pushing lobbyists in congress and government officials to push for political correctness. They spoil the fun for everyone else. Professors are so full of themselves too they think they can never be wrong.

  • @sirjustin511 I love you!!!!

Thank you for not being yet another brainwashed Liberal that wants to be all "Jesus" on us. They think they know everything.

  • If everyone hast seen it, go watch Alantis: The Lost Empire.

That has a black guy in it. Also, the Hero isn't a sterotypical chizzeled man and the heorine isn't a sterotypical useless woman. There's a latina girl, a french guy and a Italian.

Not to mention that the movie rocks; it's probably my favourite.

  • ...really?

They might as well screw with Tarzan as a whole >>

  • "Corporation: noun; An ingenious device for obtaining personal profit without personal responsibility."

Meaning it basically works like black ops, send your people in to do a job, if they are victorious you get the benefits, if they get caught oh well it's they're fault. no matter what they do the leaders of a corporation cannot be legally or financially held responsible as long as they themselves don't conduct the work.

  • it is VERY unfair to judge the past off modern ideals or values, historians dont do it for a reason, they say "compared too" for a reason. Judging something from 1955 by modern views can be good to see how we changed over time, but isnt effective in other ways.

  • the bit at like 4:15 was pish, it shows that people can be violent, but they can also change if you help them to and become better(you know that old "help others" thing).

As for "tarzan" oh for gods sake, lost in the jungle, if it was a load of black people with him it wouldnt be a story would it.

As for the "no asians", Mulan anyone? Or middle east? You got a certain magic carpit....

These people are just looking for shit to complain about (dont forget time its made too, times change and...

  • If your kids mind is being shaped by disney, then you are a fucking shit parent. Dont mean to offend, but i am a blunt yorkie. Its like blaming fast food stores because your 5 year old is 30lbs overweight...

    Its called good parenting.

  • I had to watch this movie in my English class in my senior year of high school and watching part of it now, I still think the way I did when I first watched it... The people in this video are looking too much into it. Kids don't even pay attention to most of the messages in them anyway. I admit, I see where the film is coming from, but I have yet to see a Disney movie I didn't like... except for Chicken Little...

  • ya'll didnt know disney was pure EVIL? shhhh go back to sleep, it was all a bad dream!

  • Oh my god... this vid is a bunch of wimpers..... I guess there's someone able to criticize the bible too.... women with big brest... women! doesnt men always appears with a lot of muscles?? And the beauty and the beast stuff.... maybe is for that usa woman are the most aggressive in the world???

  • There also arent any major Latino characters in disney animated films, and other groups of people arent represented as well. Film like Pocahontas, Mulan, and The Princess & The Frog come uncomfortably close to being racist.

  • guy at 2.50 looks like simon cow lool

  • when theres a problem in our society, lets all just point our fingers. that's what america is good at

  • @thegreenwindninja and in the incredibles the "ice man" dunno his name is black aswell

  • gonna sound cynical--critique of Disney movie content--twice told tales--the gender archeypes they are accused of perpetuating have been with us since Gilgamesh, Odysseus & Penelope, etc. BUT-critique of corporate domination--Big Entertainment--NOW your're talkin'. HERE is legit ground for concern. Sheer pervasiveness--Big Bro wearing the Mask of the Mouse--it's proper to scrutinize--& while the Ivory Tower types are at it--don't whine for Big Govt. to fix the quandry

  • I happen to think Muan is a pretty good movie for demonstrating how asian people aren't always sterotypical. In that movie we have serious characters, goofy characters, good characters and bad characters, all asian.

The same goes from Princess and the Frog and black people.

  • @UBeeWa

Actually Mulan was probably one of the least culturally sound movies I have ever seen. It was brimming with inaccuracy, cultural stereotypes, and misinterpretation of their history. The result was a hideous amalgam of many asian cultures, only a few qualities of which were actually chinese.

But Disney does this. They can't tell almost any of the stories they choose the way they were meant to be told because it's not as marketable. Fun to watch, but don't pretend they aren't dead wrong.

  • @Vorscythe Meh, it's a cartoon. I watched Mulan at an age when I knew next to nothing about China, but I can safely say that that movie did nothing but interest me in that foreign culture and entertain me in a good, well natured way. I mean, srsly, it's just a cartoon. And a damn good one at that, in my opinion.

  • @UBeeWa That's not true at all. In fact the story of Mulan is a Chinese poem most likely, though there are some who argue otherwise, based on fact. Instead of utilizing the vast amount of Chinese culture they mixed Japanese and Chinese together made fun of Japanese tradition by putting Chinese people in their traditional clothes while at the same time insulting Chinese people. And as far as the Princess and the Frog goes...That whole movie mocks New Orleans and shows children devil worshiping...

  • @kywanzia I don't believe there is any part of that movie that shows children 'devil worshipping'. I'm guessing you're referring to voodoo, which is given a negative connotation due to the 'Shadow Man' Dr. Facilier, however, there is also Mama Odie, who shows us the lighter side of voodoo magic.

I certainly don't think that The Princess and The Frog gave any sort of negative protrayal of New Orleans. Afterall, wasn't the song called; 'Dreams Do Come True in New Orleans' ?

  • @UBeeWa Maybe I should have been a bit more clearer....the movie shows children "demon worshiping." Having studied voodoo for class purposes, I do understand more than what you think however the way they represented the channeling of spirits by 'Shadow Man' leads children to believe that it's devil/demonic worshiping. And as for the song...by saying dreams DO come true you're implying that for many, they don't...

  • @kywanzia that is my point. They take something demon worship and put it into a cartoon so that it looks innocent and playful

  • @UBeeWa I'm not arguing and I totally understand where you're coming from but looking at it from a culturally sensitive view, Disney, is ruthless, rude and ignorant.

  • @kywanzia You're right, they can be. Certainly much moreso in the early years when they were able to get away with that crap. But if you ask me, Disney is atleast making an effort to create colourful stories that all types of people can enjoy, especially with their newer work.

  • @UBeeWa The Princess and the Frog also utilizes one of Disney subliminal theory that a woman not only has to be saved by a man but that man must be lighter than she. There has never been a black prince and princess together...now correct me if I'm wrong outside of The Princess and the Frog the only other interracial movie was Pocahontas and they didn't even end up together in the end!

  • @kywanzia Actually, Pocahontas ended up with John Rolfe.

And I'm pretty sure both Naveen and his parents were supposed to be on a darker complexion. Which leads me to assume that Meldonia would be a somewhat southern part of Europe, similiar to Spain, where a great deal of the population does have darker skin.

Oh, and, in the end, Tiana saved herself by making the right decision. Yes, Naveen and her other companions helped her out, but, ultimately, she was able to stand up for herself.

  • @UBeeWa Pocahontas may have ended up with John Rolfe but no one knows for sure if it was because she wanted to. Plus 3 years after their marriage she died from unknown reasons which could have been anything from smallpox to poisoning. Also...there is no such place called Meldonia. It was created for the movie...

  • @UBeeWa

in that movie we have a ton of stereotypes...

  • @UBeeWa yahh but does are recent movies an we havent had a movie about a diffrent race in years before the early 90s now we hope hispaniic have there turn

  • @UBeeWa And Aladdin, who are Arabian.

  • @UBeeWa In Princess & the Frog, the main villain was a black man, and the heroine and Latino hero spent the majority of the movie as frogs.

And Mulan challenged stereotypes, but it wasn't about "Asian people"--- it only included Chinese people and the Huns. Other Disney movies focused on different "white" ethnicities (such as French and German), while Disney's emphasis on Asians is mostly limited to Chinese Asians and Pacific Islanders.

  • @roxusan I think you might be over analyzing it. xD The point of that movie was to include frogs, afterall. XDDD

Chinese people /are/ asian, btw. ^^

  • @UBeeWa Chinese people are Asian, but not all Asians are Chinese. Why does Disney only reflect *one* Asian ethnicity, but multiple Caucasian ones?

  • @UBeeWa good point! Mulan rocks!

  • @UBeeWa i dont know of an asian stereotype where there are not good bad or goofy asian people. mulan characters are what people in the U,S think people in asia are like; traits like the ones you mention dont demostrait asian cultural traits, so you can not know what asian people are really like by watching this movie.

  • @UBeeWa As for princess and the frog, although the idea of a black princess is not a bad one at all, the fact that the story has to portray her as the poor and struggling black character until she meets the prince, is certainly stereotyping her. She should have been a princes form the start.

  • @julpicguz I agree... Disney just can't do it right. And they chose not to. And they wont.

  • It was great until the race card was mentioned.

  • have you ever noticed toon disney has only disney commercials? lol

  • You know . . Going after Disney is just . . just . . daft. Of course it's a money making monster but really, I dont think it fucked me up watching Bambi and Its not messing with my kids heads either. Really, get a proper cause to make video's about, this just sucks balls. (see? Disney didn't sanction my bad language delivery did it?)

  • Disney controls media it owns...oh seriously? Who would have thunk it. Thank god for the unbiased Fox Networks.....and if I watch CNN I know I can get a $4.99 copy of that masterpiece Going Rogue if I subscribe to some extreme right wing rag (cant recall the publication). My kids watch disney...and I much prefer it to that quality "family" programming like ABC's "Secret Life of the American Teenager" one of the main stars is a 15 year old pregnant teen girl.

  • News Update: Disney just bought Marvel.

  • @indiangoku Oh that's just great, not!

  • At least he's honest.

  • Well Damn there you have it ? It doesn't get ANY plainer than that. He is letting people know WE don't care WHAT message we advocate, we JUST want something that sells.

  • @MegaIntegrity i do love disney but i think that CEO should have been sacked on the spot there certain things you dont say even if its what you think esp if it ruins a companys image or tarnishes it. and as for the beauty and thebeast i think someone reading a liiiiittle too much into it.

  • Very Good & interesting !

  • My American Studies teacher focuses on popular culture and has us analyze Disney movies. She's taught us to pick up on these things.

  • This is sick!

  • whoa whoa whoa kids..it's African Americans.

  • I think it's horrible that this video closed with a statement made by Eisner, of all people. And I also think that peope tend to overreact when watching a Disney film in which there are no people of African or Asian descent present. Of course I haven't read all the literature upon which these films are based, but I believe that Disney simply tried to follow the original stories, and it's merely a coincidence that there are no such people mentioned in those. But I admit that I'm not sure of this.
