R.I.P Saint Liam.. But I wish Ghostzapper was in this race.. He would have blown this field away.. He got hurt after running a mile in 1:33 under a hand ride.. After 6 months off.. He would have been back to back winner of this race..
does anyone else feel Saint Liam is very lowly regarded in horse racing? I wasn't a fan in 2005, but looking back i think he was one of the most solid horses of the decade. i just never hear about him...
Terrific win by a really nice horse. Saint Liam was for real. He dang near beat Ghostzapper and that horse could run a hole in the wind. Bailey took him wide around the entire oval and he still won for fun. Tragically, this horse died young, but he earned his place in history.
Ironically, Saint Liam had a beyer of 113, the lowest beyer in BC Classic history. Durkin does a great job, although denman is decent as the new BC voice. Finally, belmont never looked better under the autumn sunset
Agreed that Sain Liam was much better than the final margin reflects. Broke slowly from the far outside (which severely disadvantages a horse given the start is midway on the clubhouse turn) and had to race wide the entire way. If you had told me before the race that Liam would be in midpack and wide, I would have given him no chance. He won this race without his greatest strength, his speed.
Saint Liam broke outwards and lost about 5 to 6 lenghts there easily and that made his winning margin closer than what it should have been. Jerry Bailey was able to get him back on track quickly enough to salvage his victory.
St. liam is a tough horse but I do think this was one of the weaker fields in BCC history.
