I dropped more than a tear to this song. Parents divorced when I was five and since then I've never spent more than a couple days a year with my dad. He was there financially but absent from my life. At school, I fought hard and didn't study for shit. I used to drive my mom crazy and she tried but I didn't want her, she couldn't do everything. We grew apart, as two very different people. I still love her and recognize her efforts.And although he's far and emotionally unavailable, I love my dad.

My oldest brother is a father, as a teen dad he could has just as easily left his kid and turned down the wrong path, but he didn't. He now has three beautiful boys and I am so glad they will never know the pain many people feel with this song like myself. This has got to be one of the deepest and most complex songs I have ever heard. Especially since the first and second verse are almost the same. Got arrested again, and was in jail and he got out in January. And there's not much he can teach me, he's tryna treat me like im still 15.

My oldest brother is a father, as a teen dad he could has just as easily left his kid and turned down the wrong path, but he didn't. He now has three beautiful boys and I am so glad they will never know the pain many people feel with this song like myself. I am happy they will never know what my brothers and I went through when our father abandoned us. All it takes to be a good father is choice. You choose to stick by your kids, be a good parent and be a better man.

I remember when this album first dropped and I heard this track and I'm telling ya it was like a breath of fresh air. Hip Hop has lost alot of it's heart and soul to materialism and mediocrity, Lupe brought a piece of that back by telling a heartfelt story through his lyrics.

This has got to be one of the deepest and most complex songs I have ever heard. Especially since the first and second verse are almost the same. He could change just a few words and change the perspective to a completely different person. It's crazy! One of my favorites, and one of the most underrated.

And now he's home and wants to try to judge me because he doesn't have shit to show for himself at 49 years old. I said fuck him. Im 18 and there's nothing left that he can teach me that life life won't. He barely knows me.

@iisthatD Not to be insensitive but. You've gotta move on. You should reach out and get in contact with them, but you can't relive your childhood. It's up to them to be in your adult life. I always had my mom, but my dad has always been in and out of jail, then he was on drugs, that's when my mom kicked him out. He got his head straight. Found another woman. Got arrested again, and was in jail and he got out in January. And there's not much he can teach me, he's tryna treat me like im still 15.

@CDY1992 are you generally happy with your life now? look, i've never been in your situation, but it seems to me like if you haven't had contact with him in that long, think about what if doing so adds drama to your life; to some extent it'd be hard to avoid at least a little of that. if you have any reletives on his side of the family you do talk to, maybe you should talk to them first, get some idea of whats been goin on.
