love the froup stove! made one myself after watching your first vid. very easy way to get all your tollerences just right. sprayed my cans with high heat exaust paint after the first burn to keep the metal from oxidizing too fast.
I don't know if anyone else said this but I would suggest throwing in the match stick that you used to light it...it is after all, a wood burning stove...LOL good vid
Great stove. The best thing about this is that you will never run out of fuel like other stoves. How about starting it with Birch bark and a fire steel? That way you dont need to take any fuel at all on a camping trip. Just an idea but would be fun to see you try!! Good video as ever.
Much better. Now I am looking to see if this stove produces less soot than the model we are currently using. That would be the best thing about this stove in my opinion.
Made a Froup Stove after seeing the first burn test. Instad of using wood pellets, I used whole feed corn. Got a lot of unburned corn @ the bottom like the wood pellets. I going to build a pot stand next and see what kind of soot and burn time, I get. Thanxz for the great ideas and all the tests you do. I also love the Maine State Prison hat in the background. Keep up the great work.
We do somthing similar to this at scout camp on a larger scale. the trick to keeping it burning until all the wood has been used is to leave a hole that runs down the center for air flow. On this scaled down version I am not sure how you could get beter air flow, but that would seam to be the key to keeping it burning longer or at least hotter.
I realy like this idea if only there was a way to create some type of soot shield that didn't block all of the heat!
@digitizer101 You think maybe a small roll of hardware cloth or a metal pipe with some holes drilled in it would work? Just set it in the middle and add the sticks around it?
from memory, if all the holes in top of the inner can are 5-6 times the Area of all the holes in the bottom of the can, then this makes it the most efficient but the downside is it can easily be snuffed out when adding more wood, increase the Area of the bottom holes and it tolerates adding wood better. One setup tends to makes a dry powdery soot on the pot, where the other makes a sticky wet looking tar, but I forget which one makes which. Great videos.
nice

Lots of charcoal, must be oxygen deficient. Looks sensitive to air movement, can be blown out easily.

Wilber fuel tablets, another fine product from Mr. Ed industries! ;) Note: almost no horses were harmed in the production of these fuel tablets!

I've had success laying a birthday candle sideways on top of the sticks.

That sticky substance, residue,is the same stuff that causes chimney fires in wood and petroleum burning systems.

I like using the wood. Just throw the stove in your pack and use fuel from nature. Nice test!
