  • This ride was a lot of fun looking back on it, I was only 10. I'll never forget hanging out with the other kids in the "kids club" or whatever it was while in the lounge one night (I remember the worst of it was during the night), playing video games when the TV almost came flying into my head, glasses smashing everywhere, then running back to my cabin to the safety of mom, only to see other families running, crying towards their muster stations!

    Ah, the memories!

    True thanks for this video

  • @marcusmv3 Yes, that evening was very traumatic. My wife was pregnant with our first child. She was in bed when we started listing side to side. She rolled out of the bed onto the floor and our TV slid onto the bed.

    Thanks for watching.

  • How I ran across this video I'm not sure. We were on the NCL ship that was right behind you. What a wild ride to Bermuda!

  • @blackotcsox Wow! Yeah, I remember it was two ships going through it. I have to tell you, I felt a lot better knowing there was two ships. If anything happened, there was always a second to help out. I thought the NCL ship had a sharper bow and was slicing through the waves. Our bow on the Zenith was more rounded and took the waves very badly. The steel in the bow was caved in from crashing into the waves.

    Hey! Thanks for watching!

  • The burning question is: why would the captain not change the route itinerary (maybe selecting a different destination) so as to avoid these rough seas altogether? It seems like an unnecessary risk that caused damage to the ship and put lives at risk.

  • @a73347 Excellent question! The projected path of the hurricane was for it to make land fall on North Carolina and continue inland, up the east coast and then die. So, they decided to go. It was late Saturday, after we left then the storm starting tracking north and tried to cut us off. If you look at the video at 40 seconds I show the map. You can see the projected path as my hand goes over it, it showed the hurricane going of to the left(west), but my finger points to the actual track it took.

  • @NikAbbot I'm going on a cruise to Bermuda in July. You can be sure I'll be checking the weather forecast right before the trip. If I see any large storm like a hurricane headed that way and the cruise line does not select an alternate destination, I'm going to cancel my trip. Fortunately, I took cancellation insurance. I would still lose some money but it's better than putting lives at risk. You said it best in the video when you looked at the mess inside the ship and said "This is not right!"

  • I was a ships photographer on that ship during that cruise. Rough cruise. I was nearly hit by a flying TV in the staff mess. It landed on a garbage can just by the side of me. I remember the bow damage.

  • Still hoping you upload a longer, HD version of this some day...one of my favorite storm videos. :-)

  • Ein sehr schönes Video, eigentlich werde ich nicht sehr schnell Seekrank, aber hier ist das schon mega heftig....

  • I was the ships printer on this cruise- I'll never forget it. The ship listed a one point and the life boats were in the ocean whilst in their stowed position. The print shop (like most of the ship) was trashed. A rear cabin window was stoved in (1 inch thick) and a crew member was very badly cut. They were repairing the bow damge for some weeks after- while we kept on cruising. Some crew were goofing off at lifeboat drill the next week, the staff captain said if we knew how close a call we had?

  • Where is the huricane?

  • awsome some of the best fun ive seen. Though i dont know, id really hate to get sea sick as I hate the feeling of motion sickness. though if I was out and about I doubt it would affect me as much as if I were standing still. Good times!

  • im going this sunday

  • wow, at first it seemes very steady even though the waves were pretty big! Then when you film form your cabin, lol huge wawes, at what deck you were at? Anywas at 5.45 you really see the ship rising and sinking in the waves haha..not so steady anymore! So how people react on the cruise, was it less fun and stuff or people didnt care? OMG when i wrote that above, i hadnt seen the destruction onboard! Shit that was bad, the stores omg :( But, you got to shore :D Congrats ;-) good video!

  • I nice video but I don't want to disappoint you but this is normal weather in the North Atlantic between November and February. That's why cruise lines stop going in the winter. I have been a captain in this Bermuda-New York trade and made 128 crossings in 3 years - all year round. I have seen worse, much worse. From the waves I can see that the wind velocity was max Force 8 Beaufort with little green in it which could be 9 but far from a hurricane. Cruise vessels know better to stay away.

  • We're headed to Bermuda on the Celebrity Summit this coming September! Supposed to be one of the best times to go. Hmmmm. LOL. Love Celebrity!

  • @scorpgc Ditto, love Celebrity and Bermuda.

  • Amen. That is why I scheduled for the first week in June, to avoid any possibility of this happening.

  • @Baldgol4 Yep, words to live by.

  • (This footage is off it's chops)

  • @birdie068 It was nuts. There was a Norwegian cruise line ship behind us too...going through the same as us.

  • Dang, crazy footage.

  • @djlowtek The tape was 40 minutes long. This is the best 9 minutes.

  • rofl playing bingo

  • rofl playing bingo

  • @blazeablunt4200 LOL! Yeah, you can here that in the background. Ha Ha.

  • My boyfriend was on this cruise when he was little, he's watching this clip right now and flipping out

  • @tabanorama LOL! Wow! Tell him the whole video is about 40 minutes long. I had to cut a lot out. These 9:41 minutes are best. Thanks for watching!

  • It´s a very awesome document to show the

"POWER OF NATURE", whwn water and storm are playing together a song....wow

Thx also for the pictures inside the ship

    Nice video 5* from Bavaria

  • Go in May, NOT after August.

  • Yep, you're right! At the time, my wife was pregnant too. This trip was our last "Hoorah" before we started having kids. Wow! What a hoorah! LOL! Thanks for watching.

  • LOL Yeah.. I learned my lesson the hard way taking a cruise from Baltimore to Bermuda in Oct 2008... NOTHING like what you went through though... Geez!

  • it was like titanic with montel jordan

  • I was on this ship too...still have the newspaper from when we came home

(The New York Post)...I also still have nightmares...this cruise changed my life!

  • what boat is that

  • The boat was named, "Zenith." I think since then it was sold and renamed.

  • We were in this hurricane also on an NCL ship sailing to Bermuda. As we had a room right at the front (bow), we could see and feel the up and down movement ... the bow slowly pushing upward and slamming as it came down... we could hear the creaking of the ship! What a romantic honeymoon :) Thanks for sharing!

  • I don't know if it's the same circumstance on this ship, but on modern ships today there are 5 sections underneath the ship that need to be completely filled in order for it to sink

  • wow! that's cool to see :)

  • omg i went on cranival liberty in october and there were huge storms it scared everyone to death but we still got most of the days sunny...it was really fun

  • im feeling nautious just watching this video

  • LOL! I have about 40 minutes of it on tape. This is the best that would fit on YouTube.

  • OMg that storm was so bad.

  • What a mess,

  • did the crusie ship leaked?

  • I don't think the ship leaked but there was a boat load of rain. LOL! "Boat load," get it? Yeah, I know, fail.

  • OMG. My boyfriend is goign on a crusie on Juen 29th on Carnival Triumph and I'm worried abotu him with the weather.

  • Which deck was your cabin on?

  • Oh wow, I don't remember. I think we were 3 or 4 decks down from the casino level.

  • Shit ! I'm going to Bermuda on this ship in July! I think I need a drink!

  • LOL! Well, drink up and good luck, I'm sure you'll have a blast. I don't think July is hurricane season - right? Anyway, I had a great time, I'm sure you will too.

  • One moment that I will never forget - crew meeting after we arrived back to NY and were preparing for a next trip. Restaurant manager came in and said: "If you are going to tell anybody what happened here this week - you are fired! Nobody has to know what happened here." That was ridiculous. Regardless that we were on a first pages of all major newspapers, and most of new passengers knew what happened, we still were forced to lie and make up stories. I was only a waiter there, and had no choice

  • That was a big panic, elevators stuck, people crying, asking for any info that was not available at one point. Food was still available but very limited. We were going at a wrong direction, that's what cause a delay arriving to Bermuda more than 24 hours late. Majority of passengers left back to NY by plane's. Ship was damaged even outside badly, needed a lot of work and fixing. So many broken bottles, dishes, even if we were trying to tight up all big item that were able to move...

  • Wow...This is amazing video!!!

I was working on this MV in 1996 and that was the worst ever trip during my entire life on the cruise liner's. In this video there are still many episodes missing that were much worse. I do remember that this continued more than 24 hours and at certain point we were out of electricity, waves were hitting 10th floor, we had pump out water from 6th and 7th floors, not too many crew members were available since everybody were sick or scared to death.

  • 4:45 OMG

  • wow, that's crazy!

  • great footage!!! wow I would have had fun on this cruise. I love storms!

  • Yes, it was fun. A lot of people can say they've been on cruises, few can say they've been through hurricanes on cruises. Thanks for watching.

  • I was aboard her many years later in a cruise to Bermuda. She didn't have very sea-kindly lines to her and with all that top hamper, I imagine it was a rough ride. That's why ships like the Queen Mary were still afloat after all the years - they survived the big storms.

  • Yes it was a rough ride; it was our first cruise. My family has had various sailboats throughout my childhood. So while 95% of the passengers and crew were in cabins, seasick, I had a great time! Compared to this, the trip home to NYC was boring.

  • you would not have felt the waves that much becuase the ship is so big it wont make a difference

  • BS, it's like being in the middle of a suspension bridge, like the George Washington, and then someone drops a bomb on one end. The entire ship vibrated.

  • I miss her....I worked on in retail for 6 months....did this intin many, many times and in this weather. Cruise Celebrity as a kid on the Meridian in a Hurriane in 1994 to Berduma.

    Thanks for posting,

She still is serving the oceans well@!

  • Yeah! Horizon! NYC to Bermuda! My cousin and I were on that ship, we almost got "ship arrest" for the remainder of the cruise on the 2nd night...HEY IT WAS THE GIRLS IDEAS TO GET FULLY NAKED AND GO INTO THE SAUNA W/ US AT 3AM...She was a Blonde, what was I supposed to say NO! Bermuda was awesome, but go Carnival if you want to have fun, Celebrity is more Luxery.

  • Can you please post a full HQ version of this video somewhere? This is honestly one of my favorite cruise videos of all time, would love to have the same experience someday. Thank you.

  • that would of had been fun.unless u die lol

  • Thats some good video! Did you start thinking about the engineering of the ship? I cruise every year. Havnt done this ride yet though. Would love to be in something like that. I would need a few drinks. You always know that soon you will be in the sun again.

  • I went through a nor'easter to Bermuda from Philly a few years ago. It wasn't quite this bad, but the crew had tied down the liquor and gift shop items beforehand and the captain did tell people to stay in their cabins after dinner. It's amazing that the crew on this video just acted like "oh well, whatever..."

  • The Zentih had a rounded bow and took the wave very badly. We were being followed by a NCL vessel that had a sharp bow, I'm sure it must have been a smoother ride for them. We arrived a day late to Bermuda. I had to removed alot from the movie to fit this on YT. The portable x-ray machine went for a joy ride and smash through a glass wall and crushed itself into the side of the ship.

  • The NCL ship did not have as much damage, that's for sure, but it was rough if your room was on the bow. I couldn't even get out of bed for 36 hours. I heard that the Zenith "lost" a piano too!

  • I remember this hurricane. I live near Cape Cod, MA and Eduardo just clipped us. This is amazing footage. I would be so nervous being in such a small vessel in the middle of the Atlantic!

  • This is incredible footage...I would probably be really excited to experience a storm at sea..thanks for sharing.

  • i thought the same thing, but being on a rocking cruise ship for 12 hours is horrible. I was on a cruise to Bermuda last year and we hit a nasty storm on the first night. It was fun at first but soon everyone on the ship was sea sick.

  • great video man, thanks for sharing that.

  • I was on that cruise it was pretty crazy... I thought I was gonna die.

  • i've had this experience on a cruise before, its really fun up on deck, me and my family were like the only people on the top deck because everyone else was inside. it was so bad that there was a huge like spray that washed over the whole ship ! it was scary but really fun.

(seeing your vid, ours was quite as bad, but im glad it wasent)

  • crap dude

  • man what a time to go on a cruise...but hey gotta love BERMUDA!!!

  • yo i was on the same ship to the zinth thats cool im going agand this summer

  • I would have been so frickin sick. Cool though?

  • Great storm cruise video!

  • wow its amazing!
