  • Bowie is god.

  • "Go control!" said Major Tom,

"Take your brote -on pills and put your trousers on!"

    David Bowies, 1982

  • 11 people need to take their protein pills and put their helmets on xD

  • @Safecamp101 WHY?!

  • Apparently there was a video of a shuttle launch, the news reporters wanted to put a song over the montage and chose this. I wonder if they were really depressed or just dumb.

  • Honestly, i knew bowie was good before i saw what he looked like.

  • I'm never moved to tears by fictional narrative songs.

    This is the exception.

  • @lovelymissabby amen !

  • so u are telling me if i go back in time and kill Bowie i can rid the world of the stupid filth that is cluttering up the air waves. naa could not be that easy. if it was i would have done it regardless of the fact that i think he is a good. i would kill him thousonds of times just to get rid of the crap

  • This is real music not todays trash music.

  • Bowie was so ahead of his time. Poor Bowie.

  • Justin Biebier disliked this video 11 times

  • @11bane11

  • @11bane11 -yea, and he is just a nobody, who will still be listening to him 25 years from now :)

  • YOUR ARE THE MAN!

  • 11 dislikes? Slap yourself.

  • bowie is the shit!

  • Bowie just got there first :)

  • @RedWolf717 please dont take this the wrong way but isnt that pretty much what i said

  • H h h hOW can BILL KAULITZ like Him!?

Im not shit talking David Or Bill OKAY!?

    Im just saying wow

  • when i listened to this when i was younger and i really listened to the songs lyrics i sobbed and want to be an outer space person so i could find major tom

  • @nckatlver I'm pretty sure this song has an influence on everyone, but when you listen you realize what can happen when you are an astronaut, I cry a little when I hear this, if you actually listen to the lyrics, they are very sad.

  • One of the best story-songs I've ever heard in my life.

  • It's Chucky!!!!!

  • I love how in this song, major tom seems like a tragic hero, going into space, and having problems with the space craft, But when you hear ashes to ashes, you hear a whole different story about major tom.

  • @TheTeamcrue so whats up with major tom, i know hes like a hero in this, but how is he not in ashes to ashes?

i have trouble understanding the epicness of bowies songs

  • @xbox50000 this song is about the end of the world in 2000 i have read a book about bowie and watched this thing where he saids it is about. and i think major tom is based on some guy from his old school i was going to go there im in the same bit of london/bromley where bowie was.

  • @xbox50000 In ashes to ashes, Major tom is a junkie, and, well, you just have to listen to it. You can find the song with lyrics. Dont worry about not understanding them, it took me a while to figure ashes to ashes was about major tom. I just thought it was mentioned in passing, but its really about him. If you like, you can listen to a def leppard song, which also mentions david bowies characters, like ziggy and tom.

  • @TheTeamcrue this song is about the end of the world in 2000 i know this because it is a this book i have about bowie and i watched this thing on him and he said it was but major tom is baset on a person i think some one from his old school in bromlry i was going to go there because im in the same bit of london/bromlry as david bowie was and i have meet him 1 time. he is like a god to me.

  • wasnt this song based on reality?

  • Bowie is true geniuse call me, love you jay 6095588942

  • @worklife1 LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey 8619?

  • marilyn manson totally ripped. what a pussay.

  • david bowie is such a legend..

  • reminds me of across the universe by the beatles...

  • What you say is true, ToManifest. But what would have been Bowie without Ray Rerfue, Gene Stewart, Jenny Sexer or many others (forgotten others!). But I love Bowie!!!!

  • This song was the perfect end to Alan Wake.

I can't remember the first time I heard this, or Bowie, but I do know I'm thankful for whatever was playing it.

  • i wanna have sex listening to this song

  • @Marceloyay lol

  • david bowie is my saviour :3

  • He harmonizes with himself....

    Freaking amazing.

  • this song is crap, i prefer the original....it sounds far better

  • @PheonixNightfire ?????????????????????

  • @PheonixNightfire .......

  • @PheonixNightfire this is the original. What are you talking about.

  • @PheonixNightfire ehhhh ????? this is the original so what one are u on bout? :S

  • @TheBlacoutGirl No, this IS NOT the original one. This version was made four years after the original version. He has a completely different style of singing the song when you compare the two. Just look for the 1969 version and you'll see.

  • @IAmIronMant is it still bowie singing it??

  • @TheBlacoutGirl It is, but the style is very different. He performs it differently, the vocals, the instruments, it's quite a different experience. It's sort of like the difference between the slow and fast versions of Wave of Mutilation by The Pixies. The two versions of the song are so different that some people prefer one over the other. Same thing with Space Oddity.

  • @TheBlacoutGirl He gave up music definately in 2004 after a heart attack during a tour.

  • i liked him better in the labyrinth man was hot,and thoes songs were amazing

  • Whenever I think of THE BEATLES I reckon their half of their legacy lived through Bowie's experimental work like this and the earlier blues of The Rolling Stones.

Put Bowie and The Rolling Stones together and you would get a even better Beatles!

  • @emokiller907 sorry, i like Bowie and the Rolling Stones, but HELL NO!!

the beatles are always going to be king, and two brilliant artists mixed won't be better

  • Big,Big,Big!!!

  • In my english class, we read a book about these guys who climbed Mt. Everset and in the story there was a reference to Major Tom

    I was like GO BOWIE

  • i love you david

  • David Bowie always was a trendsetter

  • Without Bowie...no Goth, no Emo, no Industrial, no New Wave, no Nothing...

So many artists say Bowie is a major influence...wait....so many GOOD artists say so...

Ever wonder why Marilyn Manson has two different colored eyes and Lady Gaga paints a lightening bolt on her face?

Like these artists or hate these artists...they scared the shit out of people because they have something new to say....

Oh look at Madonna kissing a girl and Adam Lambert kissing a boy...YAWN

    Bowie did it first.

  • @ToManifest cudnt have said it better myself x]

  • @ToManifest Yes. But what about his music. He is and was much more than a role. He was a musician, a poet and an artist beyond his way dressing, hair color or his ways to create polemics.

  • @ToManifest yes yes some one who can say what im thinking im 14 and all of the people in my calls in school dont even know the amesing man what is david bowie and i just think that all that stuff there lissing to if some hoe frome him and thay have no idaer at all and this just piss me of a lot so i have done him for my GCSE are not just him but he is a big bit of it its him and mods and stuff like that wall all the things i am and love as im a 14 year old mod who loves bowie too!!!!!!!

  • @ToManifest Goddamn right!

  • @ToManifest Syd Barrett was a big influence to David Bowie, just thought i would say that.

  • @ToManifest Love Bowie but no Goth and no Emo would of been great

  • @ToManifest Well said!

  • @ToManifest

tell it like it is lol

  • Most people who hate those artist you mentioned don't know a thing about them, as the mere mention of the artist's name brings with it stereotypes. To them Bowie was that guy from Labyrinth or they saw him on VH1's I <3 The 80s. Bowie, much like Gaga and Manson, have a deep understanding of music and the recourse of publicity. A bit of research and learning will help cultivate the world's artistic appreciation. Unfortunately Artists are a dying breed, and all we have become are corporate slaves.

  • @ToManifest Bowie's eyes are actually the same color, one pupil is just permanently open

  • @ToManifest So Bowie kissed both men and women?

  • @ToManifest Amen brother

  • @ToManifest no really

  • @ToManifest dont forget GLAM most of all son

  • @ToManifest Cool story bro

  • My ground control told me to come home early tonight...For here I'm sitting at the library and millions binary digit aways from her...Oups! Messenger pop up! Ground control to Romeopathe! Are you coming back ?

  • Personally speaking and I think most would agree that Bowie's greatest music is from the early 70's. Technically wise... of course not (that was 40 years ago) but creatively speaking... it was way better then!

  • Personally speaking? I think it's implied that you yourself are speaking, but aren't you speaking publicly right now?

  • If you're being sarcastic, then...hahaha. If you are being literal, then... O_e

  • he was the 80s before the 80s was

  • damn straight.

  • David Bowie is the true Godfather of spacerock as Neil Young is to grunge.

  • I have not lived in all my 39 years....Although I have heard this song time and time and time again during my life, and loved from the very first time...I have NEVER seen the video that went with it.

Thank you for posting it...thank you for You Tube, and thank you Internet for making it possible for me to see and hear stuff that I'd possibly just have kept a memory.

    Pure, 18 carat Classic Gold!

  • es dios

  • Psychedelic age ... when i was young :$

Made 'n' make me fly high 8-)')

  • LOL

  • this song is perfect

  • i didn't know Yes' keyboard player was on this recording ... that's marvelous. :-)

what an incredible song, one of the top ten songs ever written? perhaps, depends on personal opinion.

  • ermm.... not quite top ten i feel (i agree it's opinion).

it's definitely up there though. i would say more top 50 maybe :)

  • Thoug it's a Cool song, Bowiesongs like Ziggy Stardust, Heroes,Slip Away, Station to Station and Absolute beginners are far better then this. We all like this song because it's kinde creepy and hypnotising, but better technically and creative? No.

  • Some great Mellotron sounds really build the creepy spacey mood in this song, played by Rick Wakeman of Yes btw.

  • ground control to bowie, money isn't that interesting.your genius is still there, it's just smothered by expensive shite. heh, are you returning any time soon?

  • yeah, come on bowie, get back on the coke and knock out some corkers

  • A bit creepy

  • Wayyy better than Rocket Man, and Rocket man was a great song. Yep, this IS a masterpiece, I agree in full!

  • I agree with sea. A masterpiece!!!

  • a master piece!!! ziggy startdust in our hearts for ever!

  • I should not get turned on by the pointing finger at 4:20.

  • @DJOfRadioGallifrey damn >_< that was some finger point xD

  • es que te amo demasiado bowie!! te reamo!! mucho mucho!!!!... no se q me iciste!!! eres el hombre mas genial! aaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Love you Ziggy..

  • magnifique....

  • if you genuinely feel music now is bad its because of electronic enhancement.

guess who made that mainstream. ^

  • i agree with MoofleDeedums. Modern stuff now isnt that bad.

Im 18 and like almost all genres. Including classical and jazz from the 1920's and 30's. You have to realise that music changes.

When buddy holly was around alot of older people who lived through artists such as cole porter and bing crosby thought music was going downhill.

female artists now such as duffy, christina aguilera, jewel rank alongside greats in my opinion in terms of ability.

  • Sure Duffy and Christina are good singers but I can't say the albums or tracks they put out are of great quality since there is no "magic" in their music.

For instance, most of the times there is no significant message/story/clue/concept in their songs, which really annoys me.

Just listen to Duffy's lyrics, the album sounds ok but the lyrics are plain fucking horrible.

Check out Fleet Foxes - Mykonos, i think it is one of the better tracks put out in the last few years!

  • totally agree with you Droyd21

  • COLE PORTER WHOO!

  • I like old music. A lot. But some of the newer modern stuff isn't all that bad. c:

  • hammerhammerhammersong

  • a clasic

  • He looks so weird here, brill song thow...

  • Cool.

  • I love the shots of the mixing board.... so high tech...just like space travel....

  • I am 28 and i have heard this song for the first time in my life.

  • its ok..

  • did it seem eerily familiar? cause im 12 and i listened to it for the first time (i think) and it seem eerily familiar

  • you probably heard it in a car comercial

    BUY A LINCOLN NOW!

  • Haha, after i saw that commercial, I really wanted to own a lincoln. Weird.

  • I think you saw Adam Sandler sing it in Mr. Deeds

  • galád :D

  • This so much cleaner...music that will never die

  • I'm thirteen, I love David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Damien Rice, U2. Old music is so much better xD

  • why did you feel the need to tell us your age? Hell I've been listening to this stuff since I was 8! I'm 15 now btw

  • why did you need to tell us your age

  • it was to make a point. There is no need to say it and clearly you pick up on that

  • I Lol'd xD

  • 45 and loved it from the start ( 72 ?)

  • thats because all the singers today have fake voices

  • over-dubbing didn't just happen yesterday man

  • im 14 and same here ever since i was 11ive loved old music .ive always being called a sado for not the liking the modern shit we have 2 day

  • modern music sucks balls compared to old music

  • exactly

  • agreed

  • thats exactly right!! im 15 and all i have on my ipod is the tour of duty's and all the other songs are pre 1999. Everyone says 'why don't you have any new shit on here' i always say 'coz thats exactly what it is, shit'

  • Spot on, spot on ;)

  • nice 2 know that there are a few of us

  • Lol haha

  • you know I've seen a lot of versions of this song but this one is my favourite, I think it's because it's quite trippy :)

  • i like the mr. deeds version the best. lol =]

  • rofl adam sandler is so funny

  • Yeah this version was released as part of a series of promotional clips for his singles around that time, I had to research it for my college course :) Love good old Bowie though xxx

  • WoW U must be on an ace course!!!!but I own all his albums from the first to Scary monsters album of 1980!!!!his peak vase!!! but his first 2 are hard for me to get into even this but lov CHANGES & ZIGGY all that fase & then LOW too fist electro Rock not to mention all the stuuff he PRODUCED like the STOOGES RAW POWER!! & my fave IGGY POP's THE IDIOT album but why I can't feel this as much I don't kw!!!!he was the 70's BEATLES changing music every 3/4 years!!

  • music from a better time...

  • no kidding....

  • This is my opinion:

I think that the one over there on the right that says original 1969, that one's better. I think it's an earlier version.

  • Talking in star wars emperor's voice to Dave:

"I can feell the Pink Floyd dwelling within you"

I like this song, kinda reminds me "Set Controls for the heart of the sun" by Pink Floyd.

  • La musique a été empruntée our C.R. A. Z.Y

  • i would give my left nut for the hair

  • I dont like the red background n stuff but i love the video :D

  • He looks so different now.

  • Well it was 30 years ago, and to be fair, he's aged very well.

  • He has reinvented himself a number of times. Of course one could point to the Rolling Stones as being an example of an act that never needed to reinvent itself, but at the same time, not every act can reinvent itself and be successful at it as David as been. Not to mention the knowing when reinvention is necessary and being willing to go through with it. :-)

  • his hair is amazing lol

i wonder how he got it to look like that?

  • his hairrrr!!!!!!! my Lord, I love this man.

  • Man, that hair.

But David Bowie is awesome anyway :D

  • the elevation of the astral body..

  • one of the greatest songs of all time. I love it.

  • perfect to toke to

  • He's a weird dude. But, i respect him being different. This a good song by Bowie.

  • everyone is different

  • True, but the majority of people act the same.

  • most people want to be slightly different, while also trying not to be too different.

  • most people are too afraid to even begin acting different. a lot seem like they almost want to support conforming.

  • hes a weird lookin dude im not gonna lie, but i relate to him in an odd way... plus we both have heterochromia. look it up.

  • Actually, he does not have heterochromia. He was said to, but his eyes are actually the same color. What makes them appear to be different is that one of his pupils is permanently dilated.

  • I never Heard an Awesome like thiis ! :)
