Saw Jacob and Simon yesterday in Vilnius film festival. Brilliant film, brilliant people. Congrats! Nobody has done anything like this before, but THIS is what documentary film is all about - being able to show what others can't and daring to go where others don't. And not only that, but also finding a creative way to show things.
The situation in North Korea is horrible, but even more horrible is the fact that the people are so brainwashed, they couldn't live in a healthy and free society.
Yes, Jacob has CP. As explained in the movie, north koreans don't tolerate handicapped people, they get rid of them. So they wanted the audience to think that Jacob was pretending to be spastic.
The march is to show their leader how supreme they are. And they are singing kill-songs against the USA.. they don't like americans. At 3:34 you hear one of the koreans tell Jacob it's a US-demonstration.. which he doesn't approve. But they have to lie... or else.
Ok, sorry, after reading the posts, this was a series in Denmark? I loved this documentary. What was the series like? What made them think about going to N. Korea? Any info is helpful. By the way, I watched this film at the Sundance Festival and I loved this movie.
@moviegirl23 The Danish version wasn't such a success in terms of selling it to foreign TV stations. It contained too much of a Danish "touch", so it was re-edited.
Well I have deducted that it must be a march song, as in parade music, it might have been produced by Zentropa, but I have my assumptions. If you don't know the title of the march it's okay.
Let's see. Mads Brugger opposes lies, because they are made by a country to the people. But when he can get a lie in to do his movie to the same people it's OK?
Seems like the same side of the coin, I see a person using all within his grasp to abuse power.
I'm from Denmark and have seen the full series on TV. Some of the references in the full series are very much for danes only, and it was not possible to sell it to other countries. That's why they cut it down into a movie, and now it is actually doing quite good. TV networks have bought it for a lot of countries.
I was fortunate enough to see this film, which I thought was really fascinating. Jacob was wonderful and so inspiring. I wonder if there are copies of the complete documentary for sale...?

I just hope that the friendly hostess wasn't punished, when the real idea behind the project was revealed.

That was my thought after I watched the movie. I hope they don't kill her after realizing the movie exposes and humiliates the country.

The best piece of film, possible ever, created on the earth. Guess you have to be danish to catch the point.

The series are amazing. What is the march called at 1:17 - I have tried to discover this for several years now. Please respond, thanks.

I don't think it's a march. I think just another celebration for the country. Good question though.

I heard an audio interview with M. Brugger after this spot got me going into hyperdrive. This filmmaker has Balls with capital B.

Think what would have happen if they had found out about him?

Where can I buy this? I live in the middle of nowhere so attending a screening is out of the picture.
