It still bugs me to this day, and I dunno if I fell into a time-warp or what, but I kid you not, I was watching headbanger's ball one night when I was a kid and saw this video right at the end of the show, (between the last shot of riki and the closing credits)-- a year or two before they hit the mainstream (which was 92, so it would've been 90-91 sometime). I was 11-12 at the time and no, drugs/booze weren't in the picture at all... just curious if anyone remembers seeing the same thing

This was the type of music they usually played on Countdown to the Ball or even the first hour, but I would not be surprised if they played it last as a better transition into the next show. I remember seeing it on the Ball before they got big and I think I remember the premiere of the video. Riki always fought with the programmers about what balance to strike between commercial and real metal. As UKJ got bigger they got played on regular mtv. So, yep it happened.

You know people say Nirvana was the end to hair bands, but these guys were they segue that ushered in the grunge wave Nirvana took all the credit for. Ugly Kid Joecame on to the main scene wearing t-shirts, docs, cut offs and lopped hair singing about hate while the chest baring hair bands were still blazing the over saturated love ballad. I think UKJ here primed everyone for the grunge tidal wave.

It used to be that every band had their own sound, and when one of their songs came on the radio, you knew who they were. Kinda like these guys. The new bands try to hit you with power chords and heavy bass, but I don't hear much of a melody. But keep the faith brother. At least you have the Internet so you can listen to whatever it is you want to hear.
