Can't really judge the Pilot unless off road tires are used. Those fancy rims don't help the situation much either. Post more vids please! If the car fails with decent off road tires, then those car review guys were paid to make this car sound good!
@rexdlu The 4WD in the Ridgeline is horrible. Its FWD until the rear slips then the truck feeds power to the rear as needed. Not nearly as good for this type of stuff as full-time 4WD. Plus, the FWD biased Ridgeline has a transversely mounted engine with different drivetrain angles left and right. It was not made for this. Tires do make up 90% of your traction, but if you take a FWD biased truck with no full-time 4WD to the mud and dirt you're going to have trouble no matter what tires you use.
@PlatinumRacing Educate yourself, then speak. The VTM system doesn't wait for a slip, it provides power to the rear wheels immediately when accelerating. Furthermore it has a lock that can be used in 1st and 2nd much like a 4 lo. Stupid people who don't know their own vehicle don't know when or how to use the VTM-4 lock and when to turn VSA off.
@kabdoesntwantachanne So in 1st and 2nd gear the driver can selectively lock the 4WD with a 50-50% torque split, correct? So you tell me to educate myself then you go and compare THAT to 4-wheel-low? Have you ever driven a truck? Not a Pilot or a Ridgeline, I mean a fucking truck. I don't mind that its Japanese (I love Japanese), I don't mind that its unibody (Their torsional stiffness is superior), but I can't stand that Honda had the balls to make a "Truck" with a transversely mounted engine.
God forbid they actually make a decent little truck that rides nice. How dare they try such dastardly and absurd things. Don't they know you are supposed to leave your truck with back pain every day. lol Hater.
@cg95660 I get why it was made, but I'm never going to like it. I just dislike people who think their 3.4L Ridgeline is a true pickup truck. They think it can tow, they think it can bog, they think it can do everything an actual truck can do. Truth is, this thing has more in common with an AWD Toyota Matrix than it does with an Explorer Sportrac or Chevy Avalanche. Not only that, but this mid-2000's "Truck" has a towing capacity that equals that of my VG33 powered Pathfinder from 1997. Sad.
I understand what you are getting at trust me I used to have a kick ass mudder, an old 78 f100. It does have a small tow capacity, but to compare it to a nissan is dumb. The nissan gets 12 mpg and makes 160 hp that to me is beyond horrid and I am a datsun freak. The ridgeline is hondas first attempt at making a truck and its based on the odyssey. This will do what almost all hondas are known for, I have owned 3, be reliable and safe. My last car 03 si, saved my life.
Not to mention that the american brands just do not hold up. They are getting better, but still have a long way to go, in my mind, before they truly compete with the imports well deserved names. With that said if I had to buy a more off road capable truck it would be a toyota hands down, but for a little less wheeler and a little more daily livability this is better.
@cg95660 Finally we see eye to eye. That said the Ridgeline in the video is (In my opinion) out of its league trying to drive around (Mild) off-road conditions. And a side note on the Pathfinder: it gets 16 MPG (Woo) and 200 lb/ft of torque at 2,800 with 90% torque at 1,500 RPM. Something Honda forgets is that HP isn't everything. Torque, and where it hits on the RPM band, is what moves a vehicle. I like my Pathy but its extremely unreliable. Within the next month I'm buying an 05-06 Subaru LGT.
the fj sounded like shit but performed well. the ridge line needs better more aggresive tires on smaller rims so the tire can have more sidewall to help flex
The sport has the same engine as them all. I have a 2007 and have had no issues, the only thing would be tires and also pushing the '4 wheel lock' button.
i use to have a ridgeline and let me tell ya, that lil truck went thru alot more shit off road than i was expecting.. i went every weekend to different spots in jersey n that truck was running circles around some lifted off roaders...
@redbull9679 The A-Trac button is just a form of TRAC (traction control) but is only used in 4lo. From my understanding, it uses the brakes to slow down the tire with no traction and sends the power to a tire with more traction.
@zaw1112 you know what i may be american but i have an fj40 and an fj62 it has 200,000 miles on it and when we got it, it had stock shocks that didnt even work the engine ran like shit they almost never changed the brakes and all it needed was a little maintenance and it was good to go my uncle had a jeep he broke an axle within the first week and then he blew the engine it had 50,000 miles on it you dont know enough about vehicles to tell me what to buy
first off hondas aint for offroadin, second off and Jeep, Chevy, and or Ford can easily smoke those trucks, plus you guys talk about rock crawlin and muddin, hell ive been in steeper and deeper spots then those
@CrashJSTest I know really. But, knowing Toyota's ability to ruin all of its good models currently, lets hope the dont ruin that in the upcoming redesign!
@CrashJSTest Hahaha, the way I said that made it sound that way. lol. I love the Tacoma to death. I dont like the Frontier so I called it the Nissan Fail, and it just sounded like I called both fails, didnt it! I hate the ranger and GM small trucks. Toyota has always been the best and will always be the best!!
@CrashJSTest Not only should not be on the trail, it shouldnt be made period. I mean, it starts at like 29,000 dollars and is WAY outsold by its competitors, the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan fail.
@aaabball415 I don't think that you should judge it to hard, to me it looks like road tyres... And, Toyota has just always been the better offroader.. ;0)
wow fjs suck off road. I thought they would be better but they suck. I guess Japs dont know how to make a vehicle to go off road like America with their Jeep.
I have an FJ. That honda doesnt suck... the owner is just an idiot and has stupid after-market rims with street tires on his ridge line. His tires were caked with mud and slipping on a barely sloped surface. The guy with the THAT fj was lucky cause normal FJ comes with highway dueler tires which suck, but that FJ is the TT ( trails team ) and came with BF Goodrich KO All-Terrian tires.
@BetYaWontTruthOrDare even without a locker your front tires will turn the same speed as the rear and if they didnt you would have major problems like braking a axle.
4LO, in an FJ? I thought the ridgeline and FJ had the same type of AWD system. I allways thought the fj was built on the highlander platfourm with the transaxle AWD system. Do the newer highlanders have 4LO now too?
Can someone that owns an offroader post a reply to this comment? I'll be checking your posted videos to see if you're legit or if you live in ur moms basement. I wanna know why do offroaders go up small hills slowly? Isnt it better to go up at a higher speed to give it that momentum? That way your wheels dont slide from low friction.
@strapinhotpockets depends on the hill, and your way of driving! if you can go slow, why go fast? its fun to go slow to see how your tyres goes, the lockers... etc, but there are hills that you have to go fast, especialy when its muddy. one more thing, too much speed also comes with more parts breaking, and more of a risk to something goes wrong. :) hope i helped.
Lol, this is fail. I live in Australia and the 'New" Fj Cruiser has just come out about 2 months ago...... I said a video dating back 2006 with this car.

LMFAO ridgelines are so shitty. Im lovin that FJ though! Keep wheeling man soon youll be able to do shit you never thought possoble just with driving skills
Do the Honad have rear diff lock or slip difrential?? if none of the above then Toyota will pull (help) Honda for sure...don't buy front wheel and using 4wd NOT GOOD ENUFF

Nice looking FJ! I like the stock steel rim's retro look. I think it suits to the FJ

do the bumper ends just pop off? Bolted or what. Would be nice to remove for trails.
lcacwelder 1 year ago
@lcacwelder they are held on by clips...think I had to take the front bumper off to get the ends off.
johnygluebag 1 year ago
NEVER thought I say/type this but that ridgeline looks pretty nice.
MrDeparture 1 year ago
i think the ridge line could've done better with a difference wheel/tire set up.
