  • Steve BRAVO!!!!!

  • accompanementy Mozart Concerto horn 1/2/3/4/=rondo/site/google/zaharoffmusic/

  • Your technic is very perfect, I particularly love your attacks. But I think there isn't a lot of emotion in what you're playing, that's so damage !

  • I can't find the sheet music for this anywhere. Great job though!

  • Very nice - the french horn - the finest classical instrument ever !!!! .

  • How do you do lip trills like that???? :o

  • what software do you use to create the orchestra parts

  • You are an awesome french hornist! do you play a double horn or a single horn?

  • thanks for your sharing, you are very generous :)

  • It sounds so effortless...

  • Please email the accomp. so I can make a cd of this wonderfull piece and play along, Thank's

  • Bravo!

  • you're amazing :') Ive been playing horn for 4 years (since 9th grade) and I have this same solo for state solo and ensemble and I have a problem with my double tongue, do you have any suggestions on making my tonging less harsh and heavy?

  • Heyy! I started playing in my school's band this year, My junior year. I know I was late and all, but I play horn too! I hope one day I get good and awesome like you :)

  • Great tone

  • wow! i play horn too! and i really like this! its nice and clean!

  • You should perform Concertpiece for Horn by Saint-Saens!

  • how do i practice lip trills?

  • If you don't mind, could you tell me which horn I should buy, not too expensive though, I'm really interested to play it.

  • Where do you teach? You're so good.

    Amazing performance indeed!!!

  • Thank you for posting this video. I am currently playing this solo for NYSSMA Level 6 and listening to the solo along with the background instruments helps a lot more than the several videos I've seen without the background instruments.

  • lol at times!?

  • should i use T (trigger) on all notes above middle G or are there certain notes that sound better without T (trigger)?

  • I use the Bb side (thumb valve) for everything above middle G (except the lip trills) as well as some things below middle G. Some lower notes or fast arpeggios come out better on the Bb side.

  • thank you so much.... i have improved greatly

  • Hello I'm an 8th grader who plays French Horn. It's my passion I recently begged my father to buy me my own and he did which I thought was very kind of him. Anyways I've been playing French Horn for almost 3 years now the highest level piece I've played was a level 3 which we are learning in class currently. I'm auditioning for an arts school to play f. horn since i love it so much. Do you have any tips? Or types of music I should practice and how should I choose my piece I play for my audtion?

  • Your tone is great! My tone has been getting worse and worse. Do you have any ideas of what I could do to improve my tone? Thanks so much!

  • fantastic ohteacher

  • My lips are average and fairly soft. I do roll them in some.

  • Could it be that you have very thin lips? Because to me it seems as if you're rolling them inside.

  • I have an old single f conn steve and somday when my ship comes in I'll get my 8D, I have learned and improved more in the last week from watching and playing along with your vids as well as reading all the comment's, I dug up an old 15 bach mouthpiece and tried putting it to the side a little, boy, what a difference! I just need a teacher and your it, Thank's

  • um in in 5th grade i just started french horn i never played before is it a good choice or pick a different instrument

  • The horn is a challenging instrument to learn to play and it takes some patience in the beginning. But the rewards and satisfaction you get from playing it well are really worth it. I didn't start playing horn until 7th grade. Before that I played trumpet for three years.

  • @ohsteacher I played trumpet for 5 yrs before switching to French horn, then switched when somebody vandalized my trumpet. I have never regretted playing both instruments.

  • @v19j99 may I ask what program you use to get the orchestra to play only?

Would it be possible to do so with a violin concerto (without the violin ofc)?

    Ty!

  • @v19j99 depends what music you wish to play as a teen. I started in 5th in 1975. I had an accident when iwas a Senior in high school. I played Trumpet as well. I wanted to play tenor sax. Now I'm teaching myself guitar.

try to get a Conn 6D until your older an 8-12D is the best horn imho

  • @v19j99 I remember playing the Horn in 4th grade. I had a lot of fun.

  • what mouthpiece do you use Steve?, I see that most of your upper lip is on mouthpiece/, Except for the low notes and that you seem to go to b flat side for anything above middle a...your a great horn player, I cant take lesson's from you but it help's alot just watching you, Very inspiring, Thank's so much for recording your playing, Richard in Or.

  • I play on a Lawson mouthpiece. The rim is narrow with sharp inner and outer edges. It is similar in many ways to a Holton Farkas MDC or a Schilke 27.

  • @ohsteacher I like the appearance of the Yamaha mouthpiece such as the one the guy plays for the Canadian Brass. Have you had any experience with that one?

  • I'm also curious about the tonguing on the runs. They sound crisp enough to be single-tongued. I certainly wish I could tongue that well! :)

  • Great performance

I have been playing horn for five years now and I was wondering of u could give me some pointers on how to hit high notes above the staff without losing my lip.

Also I was wondering if u had any tips that could help me learn the lip trill.

Any help would be much apprecitaed. Thanks in advance

  • My thought on high notes: Your lips need to be close together but not pinched. Keep the opening round. Roll your lips in and play more on the outside surfaces of your lips, which are more firm than the soft inner surfaces of your lips. I play off to the side a little because the center of my lips is very soft. Do some experimenting.

  • Excellent!!

Haha!!! The background definitely adds! :)

  • Finally! Gracias, Thank you- I like it!!!

  • Awesome interpretation, just a quick question with the semi-quaver runs... are you single or double tongueing them?

  • I single tongue them. I have a fairly fast single tongue.

  • I like how crisp the articulation is, it's no easy feat. Especially when you're single tongueing some pretty difficult runs

  • Bravo! Great interpretation! I really like the midi file as accompaniment.

  • Thanks!!! I think this accompaniment turned out quite well for a midi orchestra.
