Farah trousers, cable stitch jumpers, blue adidas trainers, Grey Lonsdale T-shirt and wedge haircut!.....those were the days!..........seem so long ago but listen to this and the years just melt away!
This group cuffs went further if the lead singer had some presence and attitude. How can U sing a song like that and not smile? But her vocals are perfect...balances out the funk of the music!
mmmm........Love this!! The Brit Funk Wave of the late 70's early 80's was magnificent. Lot of those groups got their inspiration from American Soul and Funk Groups. Ya'll remember T. S. Monk (of Bon Bon Vie fame) and his legendary father Felonious Monk? Classic examples of American Jazz/Funk. Long live the 80's
@maznat24 I'm friends with Ingrid Mansfield-Allman (singer) and Paul Morgan (drummer) they still work, mainly on the North London jazz scene as do I...
@jeaniebthe1 Hi, I'm a huge fan of the Southern Freeez lp. I think Pauls Drumming is amazing on it. Peter Mass on bass is brilliant too. In fact they made me take up the drums and bass. I saw Ingrid at the Brit Funk reunion @Jazz Cafe. Is there somewhere on the web that I can see what Paul is up to? I would love to hear him play
@MrLeebo123 I couldn't agree more, just where is black music today, in particular the UK scene? I loved this as soon as I first heard it on top of the pops and ever since realised that jazz and funk were part of my dna. Absolutely love that synth sweep too, works perfectly.
that's my sister singing lead....myself, my twin sister and one of my brother's were lucky enough to do this song with her (backing vocals and dancing) on a mini tour in the late 80's on the Steve Walsh circuit in London....Good times!....
just awesome, what has happened to real music i am very broad minded but the last few years has sent me searching backwards for decent music - going back to the future!!!!
@pussycatpurrs You want to come down to the Soul Shack in Liverpool Street to hear this kind of music. On tomorrow but usually every 3rd Saturday of the month. Real quality music and a good crowd.
@n1cky1224 You want to come down to the Soul Shack in Liverpool Street to hear this kind of music. On tomorrow but usually every 3rd Saturday of the month. Real quality music and a good crowd.
Ahhhh! Listening to Robbie Vincent on BBC Radio London, Greg Edwards on Capital, dancin at Lords of Ilford, TOTS in 'Sarfend' - fantastic song. I know some of the 80's Brit Jazz/Funk doesn't sound too strong nowadays but this is just timeless. Hope Ingrid checks this out from time to time &, if she does, a massive vote of thanks for a part of the soundtrack to my youth! - IFM
does she say like you very much or like your hairy crutch.......often wondered that. Answers on a postcard please....................to caister days gy norfolk.
These were the times British youth could play instruments and understood their Jazz.Nowadays they rely only on X-Factor and Simon Cowell for innovation. What a crying shame!
