  • Looks like his favorite thing in life is majestically putting his sword away. Two slices, put sword away. Two slices, put sword away. In fact, If he just had a parade of people handing him sheathes and unsheathed swords perhaps he'd be content just dramatically putting all of those blades back in their sheathes.

  • Wait, a five-slicer at 7:58, well he really cut loose there.

  • @plantolive each kata is showed differently, it begins with the unsheathing of the sword and finishes when he ,,puts it away'' , so its not because he wants to be overly dramatic like western demonstrations, its the proper way to do a demonstration, if you actually saw any martial arts demonstration, besides ,,professional wrestling'' and gang fights, you would know that there's a big deal of theatrics that go with it

  • If you are not moving like this guy... you need to practice... probably slow it down. This is why Iaido is not so big in America. It takes patience - which is my main weakness as well.

  • this guy appears to be moving extremely slowly. is that how its supposed to be like? i practice Iai-do at home pretty fast-paced, but i hope im doing it correctly...

  • すごい

  • the strength cames frome the katana

  • I practice Kendo myself, but someone i knew told me i should look into Iaido, what are some of the differences between the styles?

  • @TheDarkmind33 iaido focuses more on the spirituality of the art. more zen-like i suppose. its also usually practiced alone.

  • @CXaliendude1CX i see

  • What is this style

  • @CaptainYUF... dude, i think that guy's dead!....

  • Beautiful, thank you for posting this. Who is this sensei? Wish I could ask this guy a few questions. Guess I may as well wish for a time machine while I'm at it. ;-) During Mae, he seems to be showing a few openings (most noticeably so during shiburi), I've seen other Japanese masters do this (apart from the one that taught me), and I'm curious why. There is no way it isn't intentional, but I don't get it.

  • japanese steal korean culture....

  • @japantruthify001 What did they steal?

  • @japantruthify001 U mad bro?

  • @japantruthify001 you have it reversed Koreans take from the japanse

  • Steals my I AM's ...

  • The way he can stop his sword is VERY impressive. A sword like that is heavy, and stopping it is what I find the hardest in iaido. This man is VERY good.

  • I can watch this...all night long:)

  • the music is not suitable for this

  • the music sucks

  • Wow - that was great. Much respect to a real martail artist. The net is so full of wanna be self appointed grandmasters of 12 year olds. Made up kata, flashy demos, kata off time or poorly executed. This real masters seeks no fame - executes his craft. Real combat has few moves - one man walks away. Thanks for putting up an example of humility - skill of craft - the lost art of martial ability. We all need a dose of truth in steel occasionally

  • it's kinda bad that the top-rated comment is about iaido being used in a videogame (one that I am quite a fan of, however) instead of the awesome chemistry and swordsmanship seen in this video. SEVEN OUT OF FIVE STARS.

  • it's great

  • His swordsmanship is very beautiful. One of the best I have ever seen. Kinda brought a tear to my eye since I have not seen such a beautiful display of skill in a long time. Thank you for the video.

  • True craftsmanship

  • <3

  • sugoiii :D

  • His form is perfect, but I hope people don't really think his techniques would look like this in real combat. That'd just be impractical; a real duel would be far less rhythmic and much grittier.

  • So 240p, we meet again..

  • I am practicing Iaido, and i find it very hard to move like this master! Katana is not light. You guys should show some respect to him!

  • that movements are so pure! i love it.

  • wonderfull video ! thanks for the add.

  • 自分自身を知っていて、災害のない百の戦いを戦うことができる。

  • "sugoi desu" *twitch*

  • wow...............

  • the older the guy, the better the art

  • @catawampouz I think a more apt statement would be the longer the artist has been studying(which would tend toward your hypothesis) the better the art

  • Awesome tunes!

Can u link me the two song here on u tube? i'm searching for them but cannot find anywere!!!!

I'd like to Zazen with the first one!!!

    Thank u so much! ;)

  • the style is a lot more direct and cut down the katori shinto ryu style, what style is it?

  • @pe003 ZNKR. its the standardized style for testing. Its supposed to incorporate the "best" traits of several different schools including Katory Shinto Ryu. Most people dont like it because its not "old", but it is my favorite.

  • @pe003

    It's Muso Shinden Ryu.

  • i'm tripping

  • Comment removed

  • These katas have very direct movements, is this Iwata style? I'm only asking because I pretty sure I study Iwata style and want to make sure that I am referencing the right video between my practices.

  • I wish the film was clearer. Thank you for sharing, it is magnificent.

  • pliz the name of the song

  • not impressive

  • @jobowtackmasterx very clearly, you have never held a Kobuse class Katana (or higher) before in your life. It is pretty heavy and to slash at that speed with that kind of steadiness is not easy at all. I guess you prefer Hollywood where they use plastic props...

  • @tmeu Hey just out of curiosity, how heavy is the Kobuse Katana? More so than the average katana (2-3 pounds)?

  • @jobowtackmasterx unless youre chuck norris then it is pretty impresive. its a kata, not a jet li movie..

  • @TheNiiro no, a song is something with singing, if there's no singing you can call it a piece but not a song

  • The reason he is sitting down and bowing to the sword is because he has a great level of respect for the WEAPON. It isn't a movie prop, this isn't anime, this is what they teach and have taught for thousands of years. If you want an action movie watch Kill Bill.

  • @magicmark1292 Hundreds, not thousands; the katana as we know it has only existed for 700 years (1300 if consider kogarasumaru, the first Japanese sword to have a curve, a katana, even though it was double edged). Also, you can have respect for a weapon without revering it.

  • Sir can you please tell me why you stopped us from watching the 13 katas on our ipad or ipods. I have been sending everyone i know to your video and asking them to "like" your video. can you please let me know how i can get them on my ipad so i can bring them with me where ever i go. thanking you in advance. jack senseijackmorris@aol.com

  • @muker123 I disagree, but i respect your opinion.

  • @muker123 you realize that you are watching a video of katas, right? Forms of iaido, so if you are looking for action this might not be the best place to look. Go watch 13 assassins, plenty of swordsmanship action and slaying there.

  • @muker123 it's called tradition.

  • 25 have any warrior spirit.

  • SEITEI GATA ....Basic Iaido developed for kendokas. It should be written somewhere here in this video.Excellent master! I'd like to see his kendo too! Thanks for posting.

  • A Masterpiece...Karen L. Hall Broadcasting Engineer/Announcer

  • wow... really smooth chiburi

  • cool Japan !!

  • Sugoi.... *o*

  • when i heard the voice at the beginning i thought pet shop boys are going to play

  • @sonnetxi ... Is it precious, a truth?...n_n

  • @umigthus 偽物居合 神伝流(パクリ居合)財産権の侵害

  • @sonnetxi hmm? no the beginning voice sounded a little like song 'the resurrectionist'

  • Both songs are of the movie of the house of the flying daggers...

  • @umigthus thank you i must try to get the music

  • @umigthus uh, they aren't "songs"...... there are no lyrics......

  • I like it :) What is the name of SoundTrack which comes after 4:10????

  • @Lezgiqada...hai both songs are of the movie of the house of the flying daggers...

  • @umigthus dead can dance?

  • @baubaul ...Not I think that it is rather the union of soul, body and katana, everything is one, the death is for the one who intervenes between the edge and the warrior...

  • @baubaul ...Not I think that it is rather the union of soul, body and katana, everything is one, the death is for the one who intervenes between the edge and the warrior...

  • @umigthus I was referring to the soundtrack mate:)) the band on the sound track is called dead can dance

  • @Lezgiqada hai both songs are of the movie of the house of the flying daggers...

  • @umigthus thanks man....!

  • Vergil <3 <3 <3

  • 気合いと迫力を感じます。

  • i think he slowed down his movement so we can see better,,,,wow very cool vid

  • who's that soke in the video?

  • Funfact: Vergil in Devil May Cry 3 uses this fighting style.

  • @Yallniggasbetrollin

Whatfunfact?: Iaido is a fundamental part of Kenjutsu, of course anyone using a Katana must know these techniques.

  • @Yallniggasbetrollin Its not a fighting style actually. Its the traditional art the samurai used to study.

Now there are a lot of variation of it.

And Virgil uses it cuz he is a ken weilder. (ken=sword)

  • @Yallniggasbetrollin no he doesnt.... he uses spectacle bullshit style

  • @Yallniggasbetrollin Ho crap. Seriously? That just made it all the more awesome. :| Now if only my dang tutor would respond to my messages. >>

  • I've studied a number of arts including Iaido and still today, I find Iaido to be truly a thing of beauty.

  • Don't forget kyudo ;)

  • Iaido, Kendo, Judo...Bujutsu, Kenjutsu is the Japanese traditional martial arts. Samurai history in Japan.

  • The set of Katas are called Seitei, and are taught roughly the same in all styles as the first 13 katas. As far as the specific Ryu, there will be differences but I'm not skilled enough to recognise them.

  • @GeekChique the seitei katas are identical no matter what the style

  • @toshishimura i don't think identical is the right word, because they are not. GeekChique was more on point with "roughly the same"

  • does anyone know what style this is?

  • sugoi indeed.

  • He's standing around more than anything

  • belovedray, you dont say where you are from, if you are in the UK, google, 'the British Kendo Association' and they will tell you where to find your nearest Iaido Dojo. I'm a 1st Dan in Wado Ryu Karate and I've also done Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido. Karate is all about unarmed combat, so to make a Kata using a bokken is defeating the object. Join an Iaido club and do it alongside your Karate. If you show you are committed to it, you can get an Iaito training sword. Hope this helps, good luck

  • @toshishimura ^_^ THank you very much, just replying has helped me. I'm actually in the State of South Carolina, in America. But, our style uses multiple weapons, such as the bo, jo, nunchuck, and raly the bokken. We have 1 kata for the bokken, but i wish to donate one for all the help my instructors have given me.

  • @belovedray Oh well, If you are really determined, I suggest you watch this video over and over. The sensei makes the katas look easy but you wouldnt believe how difficult they are. You must put four elements into your kata; Nuki, Kiri, Chiburi and Noto, or, Draw, Cut, Remove debris from blade and Return to scabbard. The first Kata shows the draw with horizontal cut, then the downward cut, then Chiburi, then the re-sheath, good luck

  • @toshishimura I study Iaido for a few years now and I have learned most of the katas in an hour (except for number 10 and above). To master them, however, takes a lifetime.

  • este videos me tiene podrido, un comañero del trabajo lo pone todo el tiempo y termina diciendo fraces como "la katana representa el alma". muchos tenemos miedo que un dia nos mate a todos con la katana marca once que tiene.

    borren el video please.

  • I'm a mere 13 yr old green belt (two away from black, for me) in the style of Seha Ryuu Kempo Karate-Do, and i'm trying to make a bokken kata for my style. I love the art of the sword, and wish to share it with my dojo. If anyone can give me help, i'll be very grateful. Thank you.

  • @belovedray self made katas are generally very poor.

  • God save Japan !!!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • tuseroni, do itashimashite

  • doumo arigatou gozaimashita

  • an astounding performance really....an unparalleled sense of symmetry and balance, sharpness of the eye, zanshin...

  • he has style.

  • I'd like to talk about Iaido now please. And yes, Biogenesis, the British, Frank Whittle to be precise. The germans were also working on a jet engine during the war, but Whittle was working on it before the war. He gave his design to the M.O.D, and did'nt patent it, thus every jet you see today is a development of Whittles design. Even american planes have Rolls Royce engines. I went on wikipedia to see what america invented, and all there was was the hot dog, but thats just a German bratwurst

  • @toshishimura Sick dude xD -Gives thumbs up-

  • ooooooo!

  • helegaran, aye, they are trying to get there and they're hijacking planes and bringing bombs. The Muslim 100 year plan is, Move In, Multiply, Take Over "soft cock"

  • immortalHardOn, BOLLOCKS, LMFAO

  • @toshishimura. Everyone else hates America? Huh, so that explains why everyone is trying to get here. Grow up "tough guy".

  • I know it's a lame question, but can someone tell me the name of the music in this video.

    Am really interested in it.

  • Anyway, Iaido, he's obviously a master, but I have one small niggle. On the first 'Nuki' of the first Kata, Seitei Mae, the blade does'nt come out in one smooth movement, theres a stutter just before the Kiri. Some may say thats deliberate, but in a duel its a race to kill your opponent, theres no room for a pause.

  • @toshishimura what you have to look at is the fact that the feeling of this kata is one of controlling your opponents spirit, its not a quickest to the draw scenario, as opposed to the feeling of the cut being a reaction as in the third kata (ukinegashi). the cut is made when you have no other option

  • Comment removed

  • @toshishimura

Mae is not a duel, it is more of an execution. The slow draw is to elicit a response from the target, to apply pressure to him and force him to react. In this scenario he doesn't, so the draw is to throw him off balance (whilst probably taking out an eye). Then it's a simple case of the sho-men kirioshi to ensure an instant kill.

This kata is based on a hostile meeting (hence the presence of the swords) which do not go well, so the opponent is eliminated.

  • Much love for Japan..and the arts they have shared..with faith and honor..they are American..if there was anyone that i would share my country with, it would be the Japanese...what respectful people...with all my love..

  • it is not the stroke, but rather the free thought. Brought to muster...that is, the soft mist of enlightenment, her soft voice sings. As if from some other time, we drift in love's embrace. Jade, kindred spirits lost in the veil of reality.....soft kisses and strong wine...may i leave this world with something divine....enlightened!

  • Why is it that every time I look at any martial arts-related video, the top rated comments have NOTHING TO DO WITH THE VIDEO.

And, on that note, I love muffins.

  • @slingman6 because most of us are not going to do the intensive work associated with the video we are watching,...... now pass me a muffin.....

  • @slingman6 lol...and my cat's breath smells like tuna.

  • seanlin1202, if theres no such thing as race then theres no such thing as racism, you've just eliminated racism in one sentence, if you had been born 40 years earlier Martin Luther King would still be alive, and Bono would be a few quid poorer , having not made any money from 'In the name of Love'!!

  • i was just reading through sum comments and cudnt help but laugh at the topics, the discovery of electricity, the origins of the british people and their language... how the hell did u lot get onto all that from this video? i stopped reading the comments after a while but most of u were wrong about most of the facts u put forth... oh well ;)

  • chicagofrank10, is that the kind of hockey that girls in skirts play, or the kind that soft arse yanks play with body armour and crash helmets you short arsed little cunt now fuck off. and yeah, I'm a tough guy, If you can leave you gun out of it, we can have a fuckin good auld barney.

  • To all the derisive, negative and comically self righteous people posting "my country is better than your's" bullshit under this upload:

Shut up unless you have something positive to say. Taking credit for what history has done and blaming others for history is beyond stupid.

It's also the height of egotistic. Iaido is a meditative act to go beyond the self.

Practice with an open heart. We are all one race.

  • big 19817, I'd have been happy to cut off trade with the u s, cos apart from Hamburgers, (German invention) I cant think of any thing that the U K buys from the u s, except maybe those crappy little chevrolets

  • and cheyyen, where the fuck did you learn history? The Celts were Brits, they were known as the 'Brythonic Celts' the same Celts as found in Brittany in Northern France. They were invaded by the Romans who gave way to the Saxons who in turn were invaded by the Danes and finally the Normans. They were'nt slaughtered, thier decendants live in Cornwall, Wales and Cumbria, Knob

  • big 19817 one thing that is an indisputable fact is, everyone else in the world hates america, go on, try and deny that then

  • The real inventor of the jet engine was the Romanian Henri Coanda

  • oh and modern electricity "AC" was developed by Nickola Tesla and i believe he was born in Austria and then later became a U.S. citizen.

  • oh i am sorry President Carter forgave the debt completely. what a nice thing he did personally i would have cute off all trade to countries that did not pay it back but that's just me i guess.

  • some of those items mentioned are true but the where in their most rudimentary forms, and the United states "not America that refers to a continent" took and refined those inventions. And your also right that we showed up late to ww1 and ww2, but if we wouldn't have shown up at all the national language of Britain wood be German. And for that matter it not like we came over their uninvited being that Britain practically beg for are help. oh! and did England ever pay back their war debt?

  • the art of using the sword, kata - practice. perfect and disciplined.

  • I haven't followed the discussion and have no desire to do so, but I must agree with Mr Shenspirit and urge all of you pissants to sit back and have a nice big cup of SHUT THE FUCK UP! and watch the video. As soon as you master this level of swordmanship (which is doubtful regarding you spiritual state) we will shut up and watch your video!

  • What's with all the comments that have zero to do with the video? Can't you people just watch something great without going off on your own shit?

  • honto ni sugoi desu!

  • sonofsaturn, good for you mate, I wish I'd had the willpower to stick at it but it was so hard. You have to think about so much, Foot position, stance, hand position, body movement in relation to the draw (Nuki) the Saya has to be pulled around the back during the cut (Kiri) angle of the blade, position of the Kissaki, this Sensei makes it look effortless

  • Perhaps all you name-callers should watch the video again, and try to learn what this man embodies. He does not come into your space, but you are not coming into his. Nor does he feel any particular way about that.

If someone says his opinion is better than your opinion, is he coming into your space? Nor am I very good at it either. But I want to be as good as the Sensei in the video. He is teaching me.

  • NagoyaJoe2002, you are a cock sucking arse bandit

  • thank you very much, どもうありがとうございます。。。

  • There are a few different styles of Iaido, but the katas being performed here, the Seitei katas, are performed identical by every style.I'm a Shodan in Wado Ryu, and i did Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido for a few months, and in that time i only learnt the first three Seitei katas, believe me, you cant learn it from a book. Google 'British Kendo Association' for a school in your area

  • I have a book outlining many of these. This will be useful. That guy has a scary degree of control over his sword, you wouldn't pick that up just looking at him.

  • metallicadontroc, and its better to have had the greatest empire the world has ever seen and lose it than to never have it

  • Metallicaroc, and dont forget the two world wars when you lot turned up late on both occasions, and i dont suppose much raping and pillaging went on in Vietnam. And Metallica dont rock, fuckin pansies

  • holy crap that is ownage

  • excellent!!!! This is amazing, is there any information about the sensei? I would love to know who he is!

  • I've never seen Iaido before, but I can tell these kata are extremely versatile. I love how at 6:30 he drew by pulling the scabbard down.

  • "私は非常に多く、この先生が好きです。彼の技術は完璧です。ビデオをいただき、ありがとうございます。"

I like this Sensei very much. His technique is perfect. Thank you for the video.

  • so peacefull ... it's amazing =)

  • RolandStGermain, but the words 'knife' and 'skull', among others, come from the Danes. The Danelaw stretched from The Wash to the Tees. My home town, Hartlepool is on the north shore of the Tees and was the most southerly port of Northumbria. Robert The Bruce was lord of the manor in the 12th century and his grandson went on to be King of Scotland

  • FleetOfRetribution, so what you are saying is, the Saxons and Normans invented electricity, radio, tv, railways, English language, the light bulb and the Beatles? Hmm, John, Paul, Olaf, and Ragnar? Lol

  • japanese have TOC they need that rituals

  • OK MUY BIEN HECHO

  • TKGMALICE Brythonic Celts, Romans, Anglo Saxons and Jutes, Danes and Normans. Bosh. By the way, Brythonic is where the word 'Britain' comes from. If you are going to try to make a statement of fact, dont put 'I think' in it

  • é ele realmente kata 13 com isso xDD

  • the music is very calming ^^

  • Ogura-san is Grim Death dancing in fluid kata motion. His features express the purity of bushi do, and one condemned to death would be privileged to be honored by his katana...

  • interesting, his moves smooth but still fast n strong

  • Staalwart, you must be reincarnated from Toyotomi Hideyoshi to know so much

  • Returning to the topic at hand (the Iaido video - sorry, folks) why, in Sö Giri, Ogura-Shihan performs the two first cuts so low? The two first giri are aimed to the opponent's men (first one in migi yoko men from top to middle of the head, second one
