I'm concerned with a ruck that big that doesn't have a frame. How does it feel with a full bladder and some supplies. I like to hike and backpack on overnight etc. I have a small Camelbak that becomes a ball when it gets packed with some gear.
@jonislow I love the pack. It has a plastic stiffener behind the Water resovior to help with the wieght. (and it works) I did a 3 day hike with mine and it can feel heavy when your tired. (Meaning you'll know it's there.) This pack holds 12 liters of water. 400oz's!!! It's over 5lbs empty and almost 12 pounds with water. But well worth it. Have you check out the new one it's 500d and alot lighter?
you've obviously had that ruck for awhile now, how are those shoulder straps holding up? the way they're attached to the actual pack doesn't seem to secure, but you're the one with the pack, not me.
I love this Assault pack! Good: durable great organization comfortable will mount to MOLLE ruck if needed can be used as a med pack removable waist belt adjustable not so good: not available in coyote brown sometimes the storage organization limits total storage not jumpable (if you are Airborne) small compartment on bottom would be better higher up while the larger pocket would be good lower needs a better internal frame
Dude, I absolutely LOVE your shirt,,,"Got Freedom?" Sweet...lol. I found your video because I just got my BFM 500 in the mail today and I am looking around for tips on how to route the drinking tube in the under arm fashion, which Camelbak says it is set up for. I found the exit holes for that, but am clueless what to do from there. Any advice would be awesome.
If you are using it tactically....DO NOT route the tube under your arm! It will make it hard to drop quickly if you need to move. You can do it with a normal Camelbak or similar hydration system but don't do it with your assault pack.
@Quadmachine0 thanks, honestly I couldn't tell you, I either use one or the other depending on how long I stay out. The days of me wearing a LBE and ruck are long gone!
Don't use the waist belt. I detached mine completely. It rides well for an assault pack...but it is definitely not a ruck. It will easily fit over your LBE or any other rig.....just don't wear a butt-pack....it is longer than a standard issue assault pack. Comfy though.
Cool vid Jonis. Nice pack, I love camelbak. I wondered if you've also looked at Maxpedition, and if you have what you thought of their packs. Thanks for the vids, keep it up.
but as far as money v.s. versitility who wins in your opinion i know maxpedition puts out a great product but what about the others voodoo and condor as well as camelbak, great vids, keep it cool...peace.
Love Camelbak products. I want this pack and that huge 6 liter reservoir they now make. Thank you for your service. Had to say it, it's Veteran's Day.
Thank you for the review, deploying to Afghanistan as a DOD Contractor in a few weeks, and trying to finalize my gear. The BFM was suggested, and your review cinched it. Thank you for the review, and your service.
Great review brother! I'm looking at a BFM and the Tri Zip. You made my choice a little easier. Great tip on the Listerine as well, never thought of that.
i have the same style pack except its condor! 5 star bag imo, i attacked a deployment bag and a butt pack to it along with 2 naglene bottle and 2 utility pouches! i think its maxed!
damn...i thought my H.A.W.G was nice..doent matter though cuz it got jacked...but i still got the bladder..once again great vid..i served with 1/506th Curahee!! in korea (awesome time in the moutains with the grunts)and 3rd armored cav..fort carson...(pretty lame riding around in the bradley)..but no where near as long as you if u retired out..but i did get some decent field time ..several months..keep it real......Bryan...........also a fan of the ALICE..still got mine...
It can hold a sleeping bag, but at that time I had a couple of poncho liners in a wet weather bag. They work well enough for me up until October, then I have to pull out the bag!
Cool! You must be in the same climate as I am ( I live in Kansas). I got a 0 degree bag at Gander Mountain for 20 bucks!! Problem is that it is a little bulky. your L.B.E. vid made me go out and get some gear. Way better than carrying my big main bag. Great for weekend camping trip near the lake.
For the third time, for all of you that seem to be completely fucking retarded... If you go to Camelbak's website they neither advertise nor sell the 200oz. bladder. THEY DO MAKE IT, if I didn't make that clear enough for those suffering brain damage. BUT THEY DON'T SELL IT, if I didn't make that clear enough for those suffering brain damage. Camelbak will instruct you to go to a vendor to purchase that product. Now is that clear enough for the fuckin' morons?
Camelbak makes (but does not sell) a 200oz. bladder for the B.F.M., Camelbak does advertise that the B.F.M. will fit (2) two 100 oz. bladders internally...AND an additional 100oz. thermobak mini-pack on each side giving you a total of 600oz. / 12 liters of water. Have never seen how the Thermobaks attach, my guess is sitting inside the side pockets. That's enough for two people - for two days.
As I previously stated. Camelbak makes it. But Camelbak does not sell it. You can purchase it from other vendors who get them from Camelbak, but Camelbak neither advertises it on their website, nor sells it on their website. And as a correction, with a 200 oz bladder, and 2-100 oz. bladders is 12L but that's 400 oz. not 600. Dunno what I was thinking.
Right on Jonis!! Looking forward to your gear reviews. You have a very straight forward and to the point method that I find very refreshing and enjoyable to watch. great review on the BFM. I've been interested in this pack for a while, and now I really want it!! Great job, and thank You very much!!!
This is sure to be a great series of yours. I used to collect lots of Mil-Spec gear, but am now converting over to better designed and longer lasting items. I have both a medium ALICE and large ALICE w/frame. Both awkward. The Camelback looks great.
Good video, I myself have a Desert Storm era issued Medium Alice pack. I use it for every day things but mainly for school. Today's schools give you so much books and those books arent around 5 each. More like 10-15 lbs each. I carry around about 5 of them and the only problem Ive had with my Ruck was the button snaps were unsnapping when it was on me. Simple Duck tape fixed it but this is really nice review of the Camlebak Ruck. Look forward to your videos Jonis. Give me a heads up in Mil stuff
Hey D, yes, I forgot to mention the frame is internal. Trust me I'm a old ALICE user myself and I still have one. For my purposes now this one is pretty hard to beat.
Nice bag

@dsg325 its good, has a internal frame of sorts, but imo just about any ruck is good as long as it's not overloaded

@metalman8600 you put your gear in a wet weather bag first, that way if your ruck gets wet your gear is still dry.

Hi! Can you pack a sleeping bag and a sleeping pad in that bfm rucksack without having to sacrifice a lot of space ?
Flecktarn108 1 year ago
@Flecktarn108 I would get carrier straps and put as much as possible on the outside of the ruck. It has loops on the bottom for your bedroll.
