  • If you were wondering why that happened, it's because it's a motor which uses brushes on a commutator in order to change the direction of current as the motor is running in so that the current flows through the right loops so it continues to turn due to the electromagnetic fields. Usually the brushes won't spark because the brushes are touching the commutators well, but as they wear down, the electricity has to jump, causing a spark. This can be fixed by replacing the brushes. Now you know ;)

  • @therealciaran54 I know how a universal motor works. I think the armature was partially shorted because it was only arcing between 2 of the commutator bars, the rest were fine

  • You're telling me that I just gave up 4 minutes of my life to "NOT!" see a leaf blower explode? WtF...

  • @toysareme123 the title says (almost)...

  • did it fail yet?

  • @johndeere211 well the motor was sitting outside in the snow all winter so it's seized, but i'm gonna try to free it up and see if it runs again, and make a vid :D

  • did ya fix it?

  • nope, the armature is screwed

  • ohh thats bad

  • Was it a Toro Leaf Blower?

  • yes

  • It's time for a gas blower !!. For your big yard I would reccomend a back pack leaf blower !!

  • all that little motor needs is some TLC...

    and maybe some new brushes.

  • i dunno bout yuo but i think that electric leaf blower could use some gas ;)

  • I hate to say this, but its time for a new gas blower.

  • I seen that before; when I used to work in the cabinet shop, all the sanders did that.

And I have an electric drill that's been doing that since it was new.

but your leaf blower looks like it's ready to kick the bucket. I suggest running it on 220V and seeing what it does LOL

  • yeah it's normal for those types of motors to spark a little, but not this much, part 2 is coming soon^^

  • ooooooooo, preeeety lightsssssss. lmao

  • microwave it :P for some extra sparking action

  • OOPS! at school we have a lathe which does that... but there's a lot left on the brushes still.

  • RUN HER TILL SHE DIES LOL

  • i had one of those this year it blew up R.I.P

  • thats not even that bad due my drills have those sparks! but they still work perfectly does it work?

  • it's slowing way down and smoking, that's not normal

  • true

  • Hope you can fix it. The close-ups of the sparks looked like a Si-Fi movie. Pretty neat.

  • LOL scary O_O

  • We have a Sears leaf blower from the late '80s. We've had to replace the brushes and the on/off switch several times now, but otherwise the motor is still good.

  • sears runs forever. my dad has a craftsman tiller it still runs and its 18 years old

  • what you should do is turn it on, and from a safe distance, shoot starting fluid into it!!!!!! LMAO!! That would make ONE HELLUVA SHOW!

    Awesome man!!

  • cool. id say its your aperture is stuffed and shorting the windings. no new brushes for you.lmao

  • looks like you're right! stay tuned ;)
