Thanks for this test - there doesn't seem to be a great difference in quality between this and the .avi file on a small screen at least.

True.

I've checked 17", 19", 22" and 55" (friends TV). On anything desktop related there is so little difference, the faster load time offsets any loss in quality. For a PC-TV version, the AVCHD is best, but unless you pay for an editor or have Win7 then AVCHD is hard to manage and retain the extension.
