  • Video kept on "sticking"- I gave up!

  • Alex who sing this, he is great, one minor bone to pick, on

the townhead photo it says Parliamentary rd, it's not on that stretch of

rd ( now Saint Mungo ave ) it would have been McCaslin st. parly rd would

have been parallel off to the left.

  • music is dire and spoils it. gave up after 20 seconds

  • Great video but the music is a bit shite sorry aboot that cud ye no hiv put up 50s 60s music steed modern robot music tanx otherwise great stuff.

  • roma gypsys , blacks , failed gunboat pirates , all welcome to be housed FIRST ,,the white british can double up or go in a homeless unit , FACT

  • Love your vid!! Great music too xx

  • glasgows a dump full of drunks drugs and violence the place lacks nice people ,,its grey permenently and raining they say its doesnt bother the people ,,trust me when it rains everyone complains ,,so it does bother them ,,there are very millionaires ,,they leave as soon as they make it ,,its the most dangerous place in western europe its a hole

  • @MrWerule1 So you have past an opinion on Glasgow, interesting, do you live there ? I don't live there although I knew the city quite well in the 50's and 60's.

This is where I live, it's a dump, full of drunks, it's grey permanently ( notice I can spell ) it's always fucking raining and people complain,,,yes it really is like that but it was voted one of the best places to live,,,,,,,VANCOUVER !

So don't think Glasgow ( which some folks hold dear to them ) is any different than any big city.

  • not bad could do with more info but nice mix ^.^

  • Thanks for some memories of the Wyndford - although I stayed in the really rought area behind it - The Valley,

  • hello hello

  • @evmol

    hello yer sel

  • lived in 33 plant st dennistoun, five in a single end,1945-1958 then went to paradise easterhouse 1958-70,can only remember good times, maybe I was lucky?

  • Yes, the old tenements were far superior to any of the "modern" 1960s buildings. They really made a terrible mess of Glasgow, and they are still doing so to this day. I like this film but the music is bad! Thanks.

  • @Donnachie51 they didn't make a mess of glasgow building lovely public housing. there should have been a strict set of rules and regulations regarding the care of the properties and the yards; citizens brigades set up to maintain standards of hygiene and cleanleness.and to keep drug dealers, prostitutes and violence out of those housing units

  • @eugeneonegin09 You seem to care. Please wake up to what is really going on.

Go to infowars.com.......you will get the truth.

  • We have watched Thatcher strip the heart out of our Industry, then Years Of Blair more of the same, he carried on where Thatcher left off, its the onlyw ay forward now and for a Socialist its not easy turning my back on Labour, but they arent socialist anymore, we live in Towns that dont get clean because we are deprived of funding to pay for 100 billion quids worth of weapons of mass destruction in Trident. Bear that in mind the enxt time you walk our filthy streets.

  • Everywhere was clean then, its only now with a generation of youth with no future to look forward to so they drink and turn to drugs to escape the realism of like in Scotland. Sadly the people pinned hopes on labour to lift the country from the despair of the thatcher years, and got nothing but more of the same.Time for change now though. I am voting S.N.P now its our only chance to get this country of ours on its feet again.

  • wow that old picture of penilee shops (gledoch rd) 1950 looks clean, the building is ready to fall down now almost sadly.

  • A realy nice show mate and like your music xc

  • really enjoyed the vid, got any info or old pics of ceder court flats near st georges cross?

  • I'll have a wee search and report back.

  • SONG TITLE AND ARTIST:

    TITLE:5 Minutes Of Summer

    ARTIST: Musicshake

  • Cheers! Thanks a lot .

  • What's the song please?

  • Hi,I'll try and find the info, can't remember who it was !! This was a replacement tune as I broke copyright with the first song !

  • Thanks for taking the time lensbear.

  • Well, there's an ignorant comment which ignores historical fact. The first houses with indoor toilets in Glasgow were provided in 1900. The housewives hated them because they considered an indoor toilet to be insanitary. These same housewives, for generations were passionately houseproud and took care of not just their flats but also their closes. Things were left to get into disrepair by the Corporation. Oh, before you think otherwise, I'm from Edinburgh.

  • my granma lived in Priesthill. I grew up in Ibrox. Both council houses. Totally solid. couldnt hear neighbours or anything.

Now im in a new house which is made of cardboard retains no heat whilst amplifying a pin dropping into a nuclear exchange.

    Bring the old ones back!

  • LOL!! I know exactly what you mean pal !I think houses are no more ,these days, than caravans without wheels !Construction is very similar !

  • Great to get this glimpse into the past. How things have changed. I am struck by how cars are conspicuous by their absence in the older pics.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Ta Much Corrie121 !!

  • Thank you so much Alex for the fast response. I've utubed him and now found a lovely singer I hadn't heard of before.

  • that's great jessilu, sadly he is no longer with us.

  • Having been born & raised in Knightswood and living in both a top floor red sandstone tenement on Grt Western Road, and also a semi detached in alderman road next to Polnoon avenue, but I've been long gone from Glasgow & indeed Scotland, so may I just say a big thank you for this fabulous video, I have rarely enjoyed a video more.

Incidentally any chance of knowing who's singing this version of somewhere over the rainbow, please.

  • Hi,I am so glad you enjoyed the wee vid.The singer is Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, this version was from the end credits of the film 'joe black '.

  • all they had to do was put a bit of effort into the old tennements, they could saved about two thirds of them, but oh no,they had to build the "new" schemes that no one wanted.

  • from an 18 year old easterhouse boy it was interesting to the the schemes before they were ruined and neglected. dont remember the old days :( sounded poorer but much much better somehow

  • I agree

  • aye,yer right jamie, they never ever built any amenities for these folks.

  • I'll watch this one again and again. I like the way it's been edited as well. It looks like you're travelling through the streets.

  • cheers clydevideo.

  • glad you enjoyed them catmun4 !

  • Thanks for all these old pictures, a walk down memory lane....
