Bravo Dominguez.!!!
His ringing high notes were his glory, and how he loved to hang on to them. I saw him only once, in Ballo, and remember him well. So now he's teaching. I wish he were a big star instead.
he shouldn't have retired: he should sing to show that the superstar tenors are not so great. i can only mention a russian tenor, galouzine beside this voice.
Wonderful rendition!!! The color and weight of the voice is perfect for Calaf!!! I love the fact that he has the top notes without sounding like a wild beast wailing in grotesque pain on a High-B; more typical of a certain Spanish tenor who spends a lot of time with the Washingon Opera...
To InformedListener: I agree with you about Mr. Dominguez's voice for Calaf. I think I recognize the description of the Spanish tenor whose top notes sound like torture to me. Could it be Mr. Peaceful Sunday? I never understood his superstardom when there were so many other singers like Mr. Dominguez around.
Can't help crying when listening to this rendition. It is very beautiful. Pav and Dominguez are the real Calafs. Kudos to such wonderful, heavenly and inspirational rendition.
Like you, I'd never heard of the gentleman either until "stumbling" upon this video after listening to Leontyne Price. This is a VERY beautiful tenor voice. And MAN does he carry the last note well in Nessun Dorma.
Wow! I was actually in the chorus in Cincinnati for this performance. He really was fantastic. I stumbles upon this clip by accident...thank you for posting it!
This is wonderful. Can anyone let me know if Ruben is still singing? This is just beautiful. Can we get a video of this? This is a very unique rendition. Just beautiful. Congratulations to Maestro Dominguez!!
Wow!! Thanks for sharing this with the opera loving world. This is the real lirico-spinto voice one looks for in this opera; with an excellent technique to boot! It's what singers like Lauri Volpi were all about.
Just beautiful...I wonder if the complete recording exists

Saw him only once, in Ballo. His high notes were even more thrilling than here. I don't know why he didn't make it big.

Mr. Puccini forgot to leave a break so people could clap longer.

I did Turandot with Mr. Dominguez in 1982 in Hartford, Ct, where I sang Pong. He was at least as good as this!

I thought that I've heard this aria too many times to be moved by it, I was wrong.

I agree, he reminds me of Baum or Nikolov. i've never heard of Dominguez (I found this post, while looking for clips of Arroyo)-I'm impressed!

It is hard to say who is the best. They are all great, in my opinion, in their own right. That's what makes opera so wonderful, the variety.

Mr Cavaliere, do you feel that Volpi sounded like this tenor?
Mr Dominguez is the right voice for Calaf and sing really well.Anyway he sings in the way of Helgue Roswangue, kurt Baum.

To ilbacioditosca, I don't think Lauri Volpi and this tenor sound alike, I meant that they both had very good techniques.
