I love Judy Collins and this rendition of "Danny Boy. In fact I love Judy Collins and anything she does. No one is better. However I also love another Judy, "Judith Durham" (of The Seekers) and if you haven't listened to her sing Danny Boy, you have done yourself a disfavor. Listen to her here on You Tube - there's nothing the matter being choked up twice in one night.
I was surprised to hear that the song was written by an Englishman. I'd always assumed that it was about the potato famine, a song from one, older family member who was staying to one who was leaving Ireland. Guess I was wrong.
Her voice is unmatched in music, past, present or future!Danny Boy a ballad written by Frederick Weatherly in 1910 Weatherly gave the song to the vocalist Elsie Griffin. Danny Boy" was intended as a message from a woman to a man, and Weatherly provided the alternative "Eily dear" for male singers in his 1918 authorised lyrics. This song was sung in the movie ,Memphis Belle (1990) ,which is about the crew of a B-17 Bomber who on their twenty-fifth mission, (their last mission if they survive it).
I was moved to tears. I have never cried listening to this song before. Not once, until this video.

Really beautiful, thanks for posting this. I can't think of any singer who could stand there alone, except for Sandy Denny who we lost too soon.

Such a bare, haunting rendition, delivered as only Judy Collins can.
