  • I'm a fucking server, hear me roar?

  • sound like a fucking motorcycle in the boot up lol

  • I wish I had this for my Minecraft server!

  • Sounds like a fan may be going out or noisy hard drive?. This is a dual CPU system but do you have dual G5 procs or is this the Intel version? Maybe it's just the audio or your hard drive? Hard to tell on the video. I was very sad to hear that Apple has discontinued them. Shame. I have 4 of the Dual G5 Xserve’s(Mac OS X Server Ver.10.4) and an XRAID. Let me know if you want to sell it. I always need more. Thanks for the video.

  • @DrJim29 There is nothing wrong. Servers are just noisy as the fans spin at extremely fast speeds to cool all of the internal components. Now that I think about it, I own 10 Poweredge 2850s and they are like 100x noisier then this.

  • what dose it do ???

  • @n0offence Basically its a really powerful pc that has a special software on it (not like windows or mac) you can put your files on there, movies, pics, music, work anything and it will keep it safe when you want to use those files you can just get them from any computer that is connected to it

  • @JJROADSTA i heard they no longer wish to produce it n newer mac pro line up has one mac os server model too, u mean this is the thing that hosts website right? actualy i dont know abt it , so curious to learn about it

  • @bharatkumargupta It just holds files and stuff using apples server software

  • hi, ive been using macs for a long time now and i was wondering what exactaly Xserve does. could you tell me?

  • sounds stupid

  • It's beautiful..........

  • what does it do for 30 grand?

  • old to not understand is why so much noise that serves Answer me

  • haha tosses it all on the floor. Im glad my server isnt loud like that I barely hear it running and its not Apple =p

  • JESUS thats loud, how many do u have?

  • Initializing systems... charging capacitors... bringing engine up to speed... 3...2....1... LIFTOFF!

  • @ :12 it sounds like my Kawasaki zx6r haha

  • STIM PACKAGE!!

  • I love you :D Even if i have to write the captchas LOL

  • yeah !

  • hoping that you pick me

  • and posting comments

  • going trough all of your videos

  • can you use it for vpn

  • @sviridovt Everything that FreeBSD can do, OSX Server can do as well. So, yes, yes it can do vpn.

  • OMG, even apple SERVERS come with Apple Stickers...

  • what is this used for?

  • its a server

  • That is loud, how can you ahve that a server in your HOUSE!

  • @Train1 I put mine in the closet lol

  • @Train1 I keep mine in my bedroom closet

  • @Train1 why do people even care about noise, i live in my own room with 30 servers, its not like its a big deal

  • @rysliv I bet you, if you turned off all of those servers, it'll sound awkwardly empty.

  • @weinerschnitzelboy Yeah I have done that before, it really sounds so quiet!

  • @Train1 no it's very silent for a server...

  • @Train1 This is an server It is not a desk computer besides this is VERYYY Quiet compare to like HP proliant !

  • @Train1 Lol I have 10 servers in my house, all 2U rackmount Dell Poweredge systems, that are 10x louder than this. This guy is lucky hahaha

  • It sounds like it has super nitro !

  • what is it

  • is the xserever a more advanced mac pro?

  • its basically a smaller/more limited version of a mac pro. not more advanced, just in a smaller form factor.

  • @leery1029 it's also a server running Mac OSX Server

  • it has more ram and its smaller but mac pro owns it in graphics

  • what is a "server" T.T i dont get it. what does it do? why is it so loud

  • its a computer for running some kind of network like a website or super computer cluster because they are easily linked together and are small

  • 11 seconds - 14 seconds = yamaha r1

  • It sounds like an aeroplane. O.o

  • more like a need for speed car !

  • Hey they should add magsafe to xserve, you know, in case someone accidentally trips on the power cord, your server shuts down lolz!!!

  • soo its a computer......

  • what does this server do??

  • haha chris you cripple

  • i love the sound of that server but mine are louder :(

i wish mine sounded like that

  • sry i am new to apple what does this do i have heard of servers b4

  • what is tat?

  • it's apples server computer, it's just a mac server, but it's Fucking expensive!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's cheaper than the Mac Pro's or the PowerMac G5's when they came with G5's. Keep in mind its intended for a RackMount 1U installation; not on the floor like the video host has it.

To the host, what do you do with this server and the 2 Mac Pro's/PowerMac G5's in the background??!!

  • it sounds like a plane

  • lols

  • Just a Quetion

Can i Use a Xserve At Home With a Mac Pro as Client?

Because a Edit Movies and i Wanna Extra Power

  • Yes, but you have to install mac os x server in the mac pro, and it has to been the client, you have to select this when yo are doing he installation proces.

  • yeah through the discs

  • your running it on burber? And I thought I was bad for running mine on a aluminum table.

  • its trying to breathe xD but the carpet isnt letting it. you should move it onto a rack or else itll burn out.

  • OMG Is it the car???

  • LMAO at the hard drives initially going VROOM whirrrrrrr...

  • if you bought one then it would come with a huge warranty like 5 years, therefore send it back to apple and get it fixed, that is if you arent lying

  • Hmm, this is a 10.4 XServe and no they don't come with that long a warranty, usually only 1 year. Besides the one that was failing had a bad PSU which was like $4-500 dollars. We don't have to send our shit back to Apple, we are certified Techs so they just send us the parts....

  • OMG What an an Holy Sound

  • damn, your using it at home. now i cant take it down with billions of ICMP packets. pointless buying nub

  • why do u have this

  • Most 1U servers and appliances are loud (so it is not just the Xserve), it is the fact of having to use tiny fans and those fans having to spin very fast because they are small...now, if someone just made a server rack that reduced noise...hmmm

  • No point, seeing how these arent for residential use anyway.

  • Since most businesses in the world are small to medium sized, chances are that many companies have to place loud equipment near employees, customers, patients, etc....so yes, there is a point

  • wtf is it for?

  • its a server

  • lucky, you have a usb one...

  • What do you use all this crap for?

Or do you just like owning it for the sake of owning it?

  • what does the xserve actually do?

  • Its a server. Its for people who need to distribute a ton of data. My school has a setup of nine of these.

  • yeah same with my school. We have about 15 or so distibuting it over to about 600 compiters which are mosly filled with our teachers prn

  • lol teachers watch porn at your school?

  • yep

  • lol, did you watch any of it???

  • cant when they had it there was no spot light, therefore i couldn't view it because they restricted almost every app

  • lol

  • it sounds like a friggin jet engine

  • what does an xserve do

  • It is a server

  • nice!

    what are those blue lights?

  • It might be the CPU load.

  • Damn i didn't know these were so loud, i was going to buy 10 of them for my studio to fit Rack Mounted (the Mac Pro case is too big for studios) i was looking for a rack mounted option but now that i know how loud these are, i change my mind

  • I think its because the camera is so close. The server setup at my school has many of these and it sounds like a fan is on unless you put your head right next to the rack.

  • How do you get this Expensive thing?

  • With money!

  • sounds lyk a spaceship

  • sorry for being stupid but wats a server

  • a computer storage divce its go an OS on it and its a storage divice

  • o so it is nt 4 internet

  • no its a computer storage divice lol

  • o do its like a hard drive

  • its like a big hard drive that can be managed, it holds up 4TB of space...

  • awasome!!

  • may i know what you use the xserve for?

  • Cool video, and nice light show startup. Though, it makes alot of noise.

  • Nice. We have 5 Intel Xserves and 18 PPC G5s. They are quite loud, but it's quite a site to see them run. :)

  • lovely

  • Imagine how loud it would be in a server room with 1000 of those!!! Loud but effective computer.

  • It don't sound very loud for an 1u server :)

  • rofl sounds like a plane kinda

  • what is it like a mac-mini?

  • its a server.

  • I was just filming it after I got it out of thew box its not on the carpet anymore.

  • Cooling vents and noise reminds me of the concorde engines.

  • <3 reminds me of my xserve :D

  • i don't know if this is a stupid question, but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy some server space online, instead of buying your own Xserve? or do you use it for other stuff, in which case, why didnt you just get a Mac Pro?

  • I have 2 Mac Pro's but yeh I use it as a home server to access and back up files remotely etc.

  • Oh, also I see you have the same bluetooth wireless mouse dongle I do. Microsft right, silver? Laser mouse 8000. Nice mouse too.

  • Vacuum Cleaner Much

  • i am going to buy an xserve very soon.

what are your thoughts on it? are you happy with it? is the stability and admin features easy enough to use?

    thanks!

  • what is an xserve?

  • Its a server from apple

  • its mainly magic.

  • Kinda sounds like your lambergunie laptop starting up with the 'RrrrRUU' sound. Is it that noisy? The mac pros are probably a lot quieter, right?

  • Yeh, the mac pro is a lot quieter than the Xserve, You can barely hear the mac pro at all its virtually silent.

  • Thats what I thought, my dad had has a Mac Pro. Can you here it in like the room next to that room?

  • there in the back round are 2 Mac Pro's?

  • Yeah, there are 2 Mac Pro's :D

  • yours?

  • Yeh dude.

  • What camera do you use to record these videos? It's awesome quality.

  • Its a JVC-HD5 :D

  • Hey.. is that for using with final cut pro? I am looking for an external hard drive for final cut express (but working up to pro) right now use an external firewire... but I think that slows it down and makes for laborious renders... how much does it cost?

  • Its a server so technically no its not an external HD but you can get final cut server edition and if you get an xserve raid then it could be somewhat of an external drive. and It's $4,500 but thats stock mine was $5,200

  • what do u use it for?

  • mine looks the same. Ans sounds the same too....

  • wat is it for and y do u need it

  • Comment removed

  • Yeh it is pretty fukin sick :P.
