Could be chicken and egg scenario I only say that because, as you can observe in my last post, my fiance is Asian, and according to her family they've certainly been saying it, along with other abbreviations and mis-pronunciations since Colonial times. Perhaps a number of the colonial invaders used to say it? I remember as a kid in the 80's hearing Londoners say "ain't it" as opposed to "innit". Maybe I went to the upper class parts.
