  • That's kinda creepy. If you attach something with a magnet to your head :S

  • Don't want them. Please that is so unfair.

  • @xevos0719 You certainly don't have to get them if you don't want to. Best wishes.

  • @Kalijasin no they aren't calm down, I was deaf (bone blocked part of the ear) and I love hear it is a gift. Music, sounds of nature, it is just fantastic. Hearing and sight are the only senses I couldnt live without. If you don't want the implant so be it. But at least give people the option to hear. Let the child experience hearing and speak, then when they are old enough to decide they can give it up or keep it, but give them all of the option don't hold back there experiences because you

  • i have just had my cochlear implant operation 2 days ago, im having my cochlear implant swtiched on the 22nd september. My older sister is also deaf too she had her operation when she was 8, she is now 16 nearly 17, she can hear perfect and she also can hear alot of things she couldnt hear before like me at the moment. she can now hear nearly everything i cant wait tio become like her and be able hear alot. i recommend people who hasnt had their operations to have it done, its amazing.

  • I got here asking "What does a Cochlear implant 'Sound' like?"

  • doctor cut the bone ( small round ) discarded. burnt the hair of cochlea, then put the wiring then put magnet inside then put resin round to fit the circle of bone then cover skin stitches... ( saw video) ... sickening...

  • How many time will the exterior devices or interior device become defect... : bacterial infection, Electrocution, corresive wires, break inside the thin bone to the brain, statics inferences... IT IS SAD!!!.

  • you know remove bone ( small circle remove throw out and put burn the hair in cochlea then insert the wires inside and magnet solder ( saw video on surgery) then put resin circle then skin cover stitch.

When their head grow ... I always wonder remove resin , replace magnet???

  • it is an exterior devices . Where is interior device: wiring, coil, magnet.?

  • Is there any visual evidence of him having the implant when the proccesor is not attached to his head? Like does the magnet in his head show at all through the skin?

  • @TheMadMusicMan My young cousin(just turned 2) was born deaf and he has an implant(one ear so far w/ plans of the other ear). You can kind of see the spot(barely under his curly hair), but unless you feel it, you can't really tell he has a magnet under the skin. He's doing great w/ the implant so far.

  • @Legofan4ever88 Aw okay, thank you for the info.

  • @TheMadMusicMan No problem and also he's now wired up with one for the other ear now.

  • @TheMadMusicMan You can see a very small white, flat scar if the implants are off right behind his ear. You wouldn't notice unless you were looking with your face a foot or so from his ear. That's it.

  • its sad that he didnt get to decide for himself about having the surgery...

  • @codagals I can understand why u would feel that, but however in my experience it has been a great decision for my parents to make!, i am able to communicate to hearing people and socialise without relying on sign language. so i know that the choice he made will have benefets for his kid. :)

  • @codagals We had to decide whether to withhold the surgery, or withhold his ability to speak and hear in the best possible way.

  • WHat if you put magned to your head??

  • @DrforkintheLung300 If you put a very light magnet on his head with the implant off, it will stick. He's had a few fun times with that.

  • was there any problems? i am thinking about getting a CI, but i am so scared that there will be complications, or i will come out bad. was there any problems?

  • @flippinup Drew did not have any complications at all, but it is like any other surgery and does have those normal risks. Make sure to ask the surgeon about them so you're completely informed.

  • @TurnOnMyEars did you have to pay alot for them, or did insurance cover them full?

  • @flippinup Insurance paid all but $1,500 of the $155,000 cost.

  • @flippinup I know of people who have had face muscles droop because drs touched wrong nerves (I have a terrible time with implants for children. It's elective surgery and is permanent. they "remove" your hearing nerve in the ear they do surgery on it..So if they don't get it right- you are TOTALLY DEAF with out it. No MRI's ever in your life!!! .(Hearing aides are getting amazingly good. Insurance is willing to pay for CI but not hearing aides??? society is so backwards!

  • it is exterior device. Where is interior device?

  • @gwenxion under the skin of the head.

  • Oh I see I wish he could tell me how it sounds and is. Are you planning of putting him in a mainstream school or a deaf and hard of hearing school?

  • @deafculture17 Drew is in an auditory-oral program for preschool right now, and he'll go to Kindergarten in a mainstream setting.

  • @deafculture17 Drew is in an auditory-oral program for preschool right now, and he'll go to Kindergarten in a mainstream setting.

  • How does it sound like?, I wear hearing aid

  • @deafculture17 I don't know how it sounds like, and I can't really ask Drew b/c he's only 4 and he has no sounds to compare it to! He hears well with them, though...that's for sure.

  • Thanks for the vid! :D I don't have any problems, and i have no need for this, but i was really curious about it and i find it incredible! :D I'm happy for Drew! <3 I send him a big great hug and lots of love! :D

    awesome technology!! <3

  • lol!! i have Bionic Cochlear implant ;) And i love it!

  • kids that are being born now will be able to hear in 25 years time, there will no longer such a thing as " Deaf "

  • A magnet...doesn't seem its too sturdy.

  • @JedDeLosSantos What do you mean by it not seeming "sturdy"?

  • I'm not interested to see how it looks like but I'm very curious to know how it sounds like?

  • do your research before you go into this, this is what is on the outside of the implant. What is inside... and whle dad tells you there is no hole, he is right. there is a scar that never goes away, never. it is fairly large. Also look at the facts that most teenagers will rebel against the implant. fact. I kow you wnat your baby to hear, but make sure you do this for the right reasons, and not because youar guilty. There is nothing wrong with being deaf...

  • @WCHCOR No guilt here, and would enjoy seeing the study that shows "most teenagers will rebel against the implant". Please post it here so others can be informed. Finally, the scar is tiny. There is no possible way anyone would notice it unless they were within a foot of Drew's ear, and looking for it.

  • @TurnOnMyEars I am glad Drew's scar is small. The kids I work with all have sizable scars and 90% of them have rejected thier implants. My concern is that hearing parents feel theyhave broken their child in some way and want to fix them.

So many hearing parents are guilt ridden and grasp at he first "solution'" to the 'problem' instead of looking at all the options.

There is nothing wrong with a deaf person, they can do anyting, except hear.

Best of luck with your son. @WCHCOR

  • @TurnOnMyEars its true my friend Lauren has 2 from Advanced Bionics. She also has to have them off and her hair pulled up for you to be able to see the scars. You are correct. What manufacterer are Drew's Cochlear Implants from?

  • @oreocookies860 Drew has Cochlear's implants.

  • @WCHCOR Are you deaf? I do believe that if my son was born deaf, even with the implants he will always be deaf. No one is denying that. And I would like my son to interact with both the hearing and the deaf. But I also believe that if a not so complicated procedure will bring my son from a world of silence to a vibrant full of sound world, it is worth it! And I will go for it... for his own benefit, for the rest of his life.

  • @WCHCOR Why wouldnt you want your kid to hear. If the surgeon is good at what they do you wont even see a scar. Fact. There is nothing wrong with being deaf but at least this kid will be deaf and have the opportunity to experience the hearing world. Guilt on behalf of the parent doesnt enter into it rather a parent would probably feel guilty if they didnt give their child this opportunity.

  • Your son has nucleus freedom with sound processors. I have nucleus freedom without long wire like your son because I'm adult. It's very comfortable!

  • Interesting. So the entire processor, battery and coil interface can just hook right onto the ear?

I'm curious about these because I have significant hearing loss on my left side. I've had numerous tests and they all say the nerve is fine, it's the mechanical that is messed up.

So I might just elect to do this.

  • @kd1s Yes, everything can hook right on your ear. Some people add a piece of wig tape to help it from falling off if you're going to be doing sports, etc.

  • That's your opinion! Hearing aids doesn't help for profound hearing loss at all. I have CI myself. Its' no risk for health. But it's little risk during operation. It's not bad at all! The hearing aids is limited the sound. CI is unlimited the sound! You don't understand about CI.

  • I'd like some technical info on CI's. What's the dynamic range? E.g. frequency response curves, etc.

  • And the cochlear implant is wireless unlike body processor. The body processor is for baby and small children. Hearing Aid and Cochlear implant both are wireless unlike old fashion in 60's to 80's.

  • The technology is improve than before. The magnet coil didn't bother me at all. Hearing aid's BTE - behind the ear is same as cochlear implant's BTE it called sound processor. The earmold with hearing aids is annoying a lot because of beep. Cochlear implant do have earmold and not need earmold. It's so comfortable to be air in the ear.

  • thats awesome thanks for posting that! my lil guy just got his turned on yesterday

  • @vanislmama Hope he's doing great!

  • Excellent explanation. Thanks for doing it for new parents.
