Sequels always improve on the original. Some new IPs are good like the original Star Wars Battlefront(i know its old but hey its AWESOME) Star Wars Battlefront 2 was better they added more stuff made more maps added more gameplay. Sequels are what people buy, Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, when Bioshock 2 comes out everyone's gonna buy that. Sequels are just AWESOME!

i agree. in new ips they fix minor problems or add new sections of the game. in sequels they fix major problems and include the ips in the original. i think you could have the original, buy only the ips if you're bored of the game without the ip and then buy the sequel. ips get based on other ips and get worse, maybe slightly better in some areas, but worse. i love sequels, but ips are okay for the first or second time. Left 4 Dead? good at first, but got boring.

I gotta be honest here, new IPs are definitely important. Imagine all of your "firsts". Of video games that is. They were so great, and then you go to play the sequels and it's just like "Oh hey, that's new...Cool!" but it's still the same thing. The entire Dragonball Z collection of games gets so old. Same with Call of Duty, you're still just killing people but with new ways. So, new IP's all the way.

One title - Borderlands... new ideas, new technological solutions... there was at least a few FPS mixed with cRPG - but Borderlands is probably the first which calls it "Role Playing Shooter"... and I wouldn't be surprised if this game gave birth to such called genre... anyway, I think that's a good reason why we IP's not sequels :P

Honestly, sequels are great and usually much better than the first...but without that initial concept there wouldn't be a second or third. When you get a good sequel, it makes the original so much better in the fact that you can look back and say, look how far this has come. The original concept, storyline etcetera is what establishes that great series, and without those new IP's you'll get that same sequel repackaged over and over and over again.
