Oh good Lord it's not a thing of incest. Hamlet is trying to make his mother see her wrong ways. Because she isn't a thinking person or even that intelligent, the only way he can make her realize what she's done wrong is through physicality. She kisses him to gain control. The only way she knows to control a man -any man- is through physicality steeped in her sexuality. This isn't an act of incest but a battle for control. Hopefully some of you teachers actually taught your students this.

@felinecsb There are actually a lot of themes of incest in Hamlet. Between Gertrude and Claudious(back then, that was incest). Some have also studied and have seen some incestual relationship between Laertes and Ophelia. As for Hamlet and his mother, it is said that Hamlet has a strong Oedipus Complex, where a man is attracted to his mother and feels that he has to compete with his father for her affection. This is how the directer chose to show this aspect of Hamlet.
