I agree with Defenders0fCreation I wouldent buy it when it came out. But it was amazing... the 3d effects blew me away, but I was super high when I seen it.
First, I enjoyed Spiderman. Don't let that dissuade you from reading my opinion though. I'm the type of guy who can enjoy a movie just for it's visuals or action. But I'm also a professional writer, so I know a good plot when I see one. Spiderman wasn't it. Now, Avatar is a good plot, but the one thing that put me off was that the plots been done many times over. In fact, if the Native Americans in Disney's Pocahontas we blue, you'd basically have Avatar. To be continued...
Part 2: So, if you watch it, don't expect there to be any surprises. It's still a good plot though, and there are a few interesting differences. I don't believe that this movie has a racist subtext. It's actually the opposite, promoting equality. To say it's racist is the same as saying Star Wars Episode 6 is evil because it has the emperor in it. Yes, there is racism in the film, but it's frowned upon, not glorified. To be continued...
Part 3: The protagonist's quest is to save the alien species from humans. And no, it's not saying that it takes a white man to save a black man. Set color aside and consider the message that a person should be able to see past his own color and not make decision based on it. It's a good message, in my opinion. That said, you've seen it before, so if you watch it, catch it in 3D at least, since it does add to the artistic experience.
I agree that having racism in a movie doesn't equate to promoting it; it's whether or not it projects a racist attitude or theology.
I have no ideal about that in regards to this film one way or the other, as I've not even seen any substantive clips of the plot. I don't know how race would even play into it, because I thought it was all about some weird looking blue people.
it was a decent movie. i think it was over hyped though. in my opinion its worth seeing..but im not going to spend my money getting the dvd when it comes out. its a 1 time experience
movie has a racist subtext, visuals fantastic, white man saving the coloureds again, dont expect too much, you will roll your eyes all the way through it
Good to see you as well Mrs. K. Thanks for commenting again.
I go to the movies, I'm just picky about the ones I go to. I want to have an experience, not just be slightly entertained with something that doesn't penetrate the surface. I can stay in the comfort of my home, and keep my money in my pocket and see movies on tv all day if its not going to be more than that.
Yeahh the visuals are magnificent, 10 out of 10 stars but the plot itself is just a 5. Its defiantly one of the better movies out there for being so visually mindblowing but this movie wont stand the test of time when more movies are being produced with its technology
Haven't seen Avatar but folks claim it has many social messages along the lines of social revolt and how nature balances things. Sounds familiar because we're going to a balancing act with the weather. Might go see the movie. I just wasn't impressed with preview.
No one had more expectations for this movie then me, but it definitely lived up to it, just be prepared to watch a 3 hour movie! The story is actually a fairly simple one but it doesn't drag at all during the whole 3 hours.
If you don't like Avatar then you didn't watch it right!
@Lunerrrrs Oh my goodness, 3 hours? It better be a helll of movie. I actually don't mind long movies if they're good; but I will walk out.
I just don't want to waste my money or time to begin with. I'm not impressed with shinny things. If it doesn't have any substance, any soul; I'm not going to like it.
apparently avatar was amazing ;)

Not that I'm encouraging it, I stopped smoking years ago.

Good to see you. Have not a clue haven't been to a movie in years. Usually disappointed and I can do that at home not with a bunch of strangers.

I think you have something with those last couple of lines. Will see if it stands up over time.

I also saw the first Spiderman, though it was terrible, and then never watched the others.

I'm pretty sure I'm going tomorrow.

So did you go see it. I'm interested in your opinion since you also know that Spider man sucked!
Yobachi2007 2 years ago
Yup, I actually though it was a really good movie !
I did feel like I was too cool to be enjoying it at some parts (if you know what I mean) :P
But it is the kind of movie that you really get invested in the storyline and stuff.
I am usually the first one to denounce popular movies even if people tell me I should see it. But I would definitely recommend this one.

Well, that sounds interesting. Much better than what almost everyone tells me, which is that it's so good; but can't tell me why.
I've not been impressed with the previews either, all you get from them are it's visual attributes; and I'm not impressed by shinny things.
