  • can i convert from 192 kbp to wave ..and will i notice the change or is it impossible to go up in quality

  • Honestly at 96-192kps I couldn't tell the difference :(

  • What's this demo called? Where can I download it?

  • I learned something today.

  • nice video thanks, i have an internal sound card with 44.1k,48k,96k,192k, and with 16bit or 24bit with all khz freq, i love meditation music at 192k but there are so few out there..

  • @Spright0 24/192K Meditative music? if so, would love some links :)

  • @paradigma there was a user on soundcloud that uploaded 96k meditation music but got the boot cause it was all licensed work and he had only changed the fhz and bit rate, i don't understand cause he wasn't profiting on it... anyways he wrote to me in mail and it came with a blu-ray disc and a letter stating he is working on making blu-ray audio discs only so i popped it in my ps3, and i have a 5.1 surround sound 1000watt system hooked up on the ps3 i was getting 48khz with 5.5mbps at liner pcm..

  • Does it make sense to convert 24bit/96 khz or higher for example from an audio-dvd to lossy audio format or is it better to convert from standard CD format to lossy audio ? Is there maybe a mathematical border for the resolution of lossy audio ? I think the encoders may get some problems by high def audio ....

  • @Svorn hi-def can be converted to a HD mp3 for example. but for nomal lossy, use CD

  • @paradigma

thank you for your answer :)

  • Ok i changed my personal preference for MP3's to 256 VBR(V0) for less artifacts ive been experiencing .

  • the 20kbps was so bad it hurt my ears X_X

  • wav or mp3 better??

  • @jothugs wav but is a bigger file size

  • @Ryan1Twice tnx man i dl'd some standards are like 45 mb huge differrence but worth it

  • This helped out alot

  • Welcome 320K is compression of 44.1/16bit. CD = 44.1/16bit which is 16*44.1*2. Which is 1411.2K per second uncompressed. MP3 loose the quality. Flac don't loose quality and they cut to file sizes about 50%. 24 bit 96 khz = 4608K and is very good quality. So depands on you taste and space for files. Me higher the better.

    320K mp3

    1411.2K CD 44.1/16*2(stereo)

    4608K Studio 96/24*2(stereo)

  • @paradigma

Hi Nathan. First of all: Sorry for my bad english, im german ;) !

I`m not sure if i`m completely wrong, but if u want to show the difference between 128kbits/s and 192 u must know that youtube converts the files again! I thought u tricked out youtube and downloadet the 720 P version of ur video, to find out what the audio setting is in. So i hope u noticed that there is only a 128 Kbit/s AAC file for audio. I dont know in witch cofiguration you uploaded this video......

  • @paradigma but if u want the best quality, send it in the best format youtube can handle. So they dont have to re encode it! They have only to re encode it again for the lower versions in FLV, if you upload it in 720 P with 128 AAC audio they put it on as it is.

Hope i didnt get u wrong, so cheers mate & keep up the quality ;)

  • Thanks for the video!

I have a question, you obviously know your stuff.

    I just discovered how 16 bit / 24 bit 44.1khz 96 khz works

But where does 320kbps come in? I know flac files can be 24 bit 96 khz

But when I want to download an MP3 in Spotify it tells me 320kbps, I dont know what that means, is that as good as 24 bit? And if not, how much kbps would 24 bit be?

    I hope you can help!

    Thanks

  • @mikevanstaveren and 320 is the best for mp3, which not far off CD.

  • @mikevanstaveren 16/24 bit refers to bit depth. 44khz - 96khz refers to the sampling frequency (the range of possible tones the audio can capture). Kbps refers to bit rate. Bit rate (320kbps) is not comparable to bit depth (24 bit). They refer to two totally different things. Look up "bit rate" and "bit depth" on wiki.

  • I would use 320kbps, people can always compress further if they want.

  • @alarmclockfuckyou Thanks very much. :)

  • does the normal speakers are able to play the wav music i mean can u hear the difference or u need a better sound system??

  • @tabakos7 Good question, the better your speakers and headphones, the more you'll notice the difference. Helps with the amp your using and the wires etc. The clear the system you have you the more you'll notice how the higher notes will sound bad at compressed audio. Though some Devices like a DAC can over come compressed problems. by what is know as oversampling. Which smooths out the sound.

  • @paradigma thenx for the anwser.I have one last question can i convert an mp3 in wav and get the best quility of wav or i have to take it from the start in wav format thenx again.

    Sorry for the bad english

  • @tabakos7 If you have a mp3, the quality (or the extra information) of the original wav has lost, although you convert it to wav.

You have take the wav from the start, and convert to mp3 only at last.

  • you still can go all up to 18000kbps which is like a video in size.

  • @dan7madbro 18Mbps audio stream, wow. will get higher in the future :S

  • @paradigma most TV video is 40 mbps but thats the video and not audio.

  • I got this music file that says "FLAC - VBR (Perfect) 44Khz 16 Bits" does this mean its a lower quality or its the same as any other flac file? Does it mean anything?

  • @rlmotionpictures Its a Flac File of an exact CD Quality. VBR bitrate, meaning its probably using less File space, but no loss in quality.

  • @paradigma Thanks.

  • Nathan, could you help me. I just finished a CD which I started in 2004. The computer I purchased in 2004 was considered powerful and recorded at 16 bit rate. I've heard that in the last couple years 24 bit recorded is much better sounding so I'm wondering what type of computer or upgrade I would need to record at 24 bits. I used magix studio deluxe for my last CD. It sounds alright but not as good as 24 bit recording would do. Thanks for your help.

  • @1coryrsleepy If your not considering to port your music to anything but CD stick with 16bit, though to go to 24bit you'll need a 24bit capable sound card. I still make music in 16bit, though there is a difference, i really only did this video for 24bit. If you go 24but you'll need more processing power, i have a Quad core and i still work in 16bit.

  • What is the format iTunes gives and where can I get music better than iTunes

  • theres a lot of difference xD hey man where can i download very high quality audio? or song for free :) plss answer

  • @hobbitg3 I got a load of free tracks and cheaply priced albums now. Link in the channel description.

  • @hobbitg3 beatport but its not free .. u have to hack songs for free there is no way else

  • What are the standing waves like in your room?

  • @ultimateinfinite Bad, i usually use Headphones, i did have it treated with studio foam, I would love to have a studio again.

  • come on try 512 kps!!!

  • @dan7madbro ??? in what format, or you just being silly ;) :P

  • @paradigma FLAC WAV AIFF?

  • @dan7madbro Wav Pc, flac for storage, Aiff for Mac, or projects which mac users send me.

  • hey what is the better it rate to convert in nero 10 files to .mp3 with the mp3 pro codec?

    80 or 96 is better?

    can anyone explain the diferences?

  • @ZIROBYTE if is kbps you better off converting to 160 to 192, unless this is a mono track, sorry for a late reply.

  • thanks this helped so much bro.

  • @HypeRhymz :) welcome

  • ha ha your pretty funney but what synth have you got ????????? oh and keep on making music

  • @cooldude201015 hehe, :) i got an Access Virus Ti and (software) Omnisphere, v-station. And sure will :)

  • this guy likes calling himself nathan wills yawn

  • @cooldude201015 yeah i wonder why, nathan would do.

  • the higher the rate, the more u hear echo and better beats, and also the pitch is kinda hinger i think

  • @quangluu96 Agreed.

  • how bout 32 bit =)

  • @quangluu96 lol. now we're talking, though i don't have audio interfaces that go that high

  • Great Video. I use 256k VBR for my music. Future proof for better quality players.

  • @fideljr8 Thanks, yeah thats a great idea. :) Good choice.

  • FLAC? DSD? MP3? WMA Lossless?

  • @ThatKidKnows Flac is good, wma, it better than mp3 for size i think.

  • @paradigma yeah but the size is alot, i have sound effect for my after effect it is WAV 2000kb/s thats very HQ the sound is only 2 second and its like 5 MB size

  • Always backup the files in WAV format in 1141Kbps or higher before converting them. You always want them in there original quality so they can be burned to CD. As far as MP3 format goes I personally prefer 320Kbps or higher. Otherwise FLAC files are much better because they don't lose quality like MP3's. Converting a file into FLAC will save you a lot of space without any loss of quality.

  • @Metalitron12 Agreed thanks for your input.

  • @paradigma I meant 1411Kbps in WAV format or higher by the way. Sorry for my typos. lol and your welcome.

  • Ok I believe you, is it also true that mp3 doesn't play above about 16khz?

I was trying to download some frequencies from a site & also from youtube, to play on my sub, but it started buzzing when I turned up the volume.. Maybe the quality was degraded, from too much uploading & downloading?

  • @dnwndls I wouldn't bother with youtube, most of my music is 192mp3 converted in vegas and then reconverted to what ever youtube does with it. I'll agree with the 16Khz, i can't hear above 16Khz. and i know mp3 chop off the high end, even wav files do.

  • Is it true that mp3 format doesn't play tones below about 80hz?

  • @dnwndls Maybe very low bit mp3's but not 128 and above. mp3 mainly compress the details and not the frequencies.

  • My ipod is 160gb big, so I can afford to have the best quality simply because I will never use up 160gb of music anyway, and all I ever want anyway is the best quality. So basically, I think the best quality is needed as well as maybe a storage-friendly quality.

  • @lja1993 192kbps seems to be the happy balance. Though, my mp3 player is only 0.5GB (512MB) so I have to swap now and again.

  • i think 192 is a nice balance =]

  • @Trillasecond Yep totally agree :)

  • Can You change the bit rate after you say.. burnt the cd to your computer and my default is 128kbs mp3?, and if you can will it change at all or just take up room, cause thats what Im trying to figure out but I never notice a difference either then sometimes the volume of the song

  • @brandonattor Your burning program probably changes the volume, and you probably won't change the quality at all. No unless you use oversampling technology.

  • After 128 it becomes kind of a numbers battle rather than actually sensing the difference.

  • yeah, i wouldn't go under 128 for listening.

  • @wildbloodydragon with a good quality sound card and sound system you can hear differences between 320kbps mp3 and flac too. I think you can hear differences with Realtek HD sound chip until about 192 kbps. Above that you need a better sound card. I have an E-MU 0202 and there is a lot difference.

  • Why didn´t i came across this vid before?

Wasted alot of time making my own test.

I store most of my files in FLAC.

    For MP3 i prefer around 192 kbps.

  • :S. Well you glad? Yeah 192 for mp3's optimum. Flac is good too. or 320~. Personnal preference :)

  • Back somewhere around 2000 when I first started listening mp3s, 128kbs was one of the best formats I'd come across. At that time, 128kps was completely satisfactory to me, but over time, I've gradually began to desire a bit more. Perhaps this also has to do with the increase in quality of recording and types of music that have been recorded since then, but I'm now hard-pressed to download mp3s under the top 320kps rating. Don't know what I'll do once my hearing starts to go...

  • lol, thanks for your comment, i'm the same.

  • Very nice video. I learned a lot. I still have so much to learn though. Thanks for this informative video.

  • Thanks very much :) And your welcome

  • only one a really can't the 128 to 192 really.

  • 128 can, 160 and 192 is hard for me.

  • @paradigma yer i just wish i knew the perfect bit rate of size. it would make saveing an choosing songs much easier. but i suppose different songs will have different effect to take to account before you change the bit rate

  • I stick to 192, for ratio data to quality

  • 192 i ok for the size/quality aspect but 24/96 LPC on Blu-Ray Audio is for the Hi-Fi so 192 for the laptop and portable device or car but home with 7.1 and a speaker system that will do 5Hz -50khz +- 1.8dB and peak SPL @142 dB in the front room and great dynamic range for the music that is out on BRDA. it will do for now

  • totally agree, when i'll be bring my chillout album, i'll be doing a 24/96 release too, for those with devices which can play it. Thanks for you comment

  • I just wondered if they were because I've noticed people are using ipods instead of portable cd players.

  • oh wouldn't ever use a portable cd player now, i have older small mp3 player, i have stacks of CD's and lot of people still like having a hard copy of the music.

    Nathan

  • Is the music compact disc obsolete?

  • nope, why do you say?

  • xxx

  • I've tried various bitrate so far. All of them, however, got re-encoded by youtube and sounded like 64kbps. It's mysterious to me that you were able to upload music like CD quality.

  • I uploaded to a server different bit rates but they aren't available at the moment. Will be back up soon :)

  • Oh, it's a comment about my youtube video, not yours.

  • Sorry little sleepy. I usually render too 128Kbps. mp3s. within an MP4 or WMV file.

  • I download trance, progressive house, techno and different stuff of electronic music in 320 kbps, it's the best mp3 quality and you can tell when it's lower. 256 sound awful. i can also see it on the waveform :)

lower bitrates sounds flat and quieter.

and the best: wav / flac. but 320kbps is these day's winner :)

  • Thanks yeah when i had a 24bit wav file that too sounds fuller and richer.

  • :) it's great that you allow people to use your demos in their videos.

I got here though that canadian youtube partner :P

  • hehe, thanks :)

  • my mother can't see the difference, l0l.

  • I haven't got the files up anymore. So can't compare :( sorry

  • Nice Video... Your smart too.

  • Thanks very much

  • i'd like to have that nice sound files.

    plz fix the link nathan.

btw is it rly only a demo? no track?

would make a beautiful electronic song ;)

  • thank you for rly fast response!

  • Your welcome. Yeah i'll turn it into a really good track soon. :)

  • and btw, max quality with youtube is 192

  • When did they change there settings?

  • funny how all my mates play shitty 128k on their £1k car sound system LOL

no matter how expensive your audio system was, if you play a 128 on it its still gonna sound shit.

  • lol, thats true.

  • I've loaded my mastered 320's into youtube and they come out sounding like crap! Or they are rejected for "Bad Value"? Should I bounce the tracks to 128? and recode the video with new audio? any help would be much appreciated. The unmastered tracks sound like dodo too. the tracks sound great alone without video??

  • For youtube i bounce to 192 and then render to mp4 with 128 which seems to work best, have 128 mp3s can cause glitches in the sound. Also depends on how busy the sound in the track is. I bounce everything at Max -0.2db too. Search drug in my videos, thats a track without video, see for yourself.

Last note, i don't regard youtube with audio quality

    Hope this Helped,

    Nathan

  • Links dont work :( does it work for u nathan?

  • hmmm i think you might be right i have to change the links. thanks,

    Nathan

  • thanks, I've always wondered what bit rate is. i think i'll use 320 for my favorite songs and 192 for everything else. good looking out.

  • Your Welcome. Thats a good decision.

    Nathan

  • windows vista uses 160 kbps, 44khz, stereo

    1-pass CBR

  • What Vista app?

  • the best settings for windows mediaplayer i meant

  • ahh thanks :)

  • 192 is minimum and also if im not going to dj it.

if i do only wav/cd or flac compression works :)

and yeah i hear very well the difference of bitrates even on laptop...

  • Yeah will be selling at 192 and optional wav if people request it. Thanks for you comment.

  • I can send to wav at 32 bit floating but when rendering anything to MP3 in Cubase can only do 16 bit even when changed in the Project Set up. Any idea why it does this?.

  • Mp3 is a compression of 16bit files. use Flac or wma for higher compression.

  • Even though I don't notice the difference past 192Kbps, but a higher bitrate gives peace of mind :)

  • Rightly so, esp if you want it on CD. Which i thinkk you emailed me about.

  • Nice video :)

Personally I like my MP3's a bitrate of atleast 192Kbps, but 128Kbps is the minimum for me :)

  • Cheers, 192Kbps is minium for me too. Which is what the Albums will be.

  • hey Nathan

i have a pro sound card but i never work beyond 44khz

but wow ... that 96khz wav file sounds crystal clear !!!!!!!!!!

    thanks for this vid

  • Hey dude,

Glad you hear some pro end music :). I'm even considering doing a 24bit Album. And your welcome.

    Nathan

  • i think i'll try recording in 96khz now ... i never thought it makes such a difference

  • I'm still recording in 16/44, but i'll probably change the project into 24/96 when i make that album.

  • Thank you for the educational journey from muffled into clearer and fuller sound! The youtube sound wasn't too bad,. The final sound seemed to me to have more bass.

  • Your welcome, yeah i also noticed more bass as well. Thanks :)

  • thankyou :D

  • your welcome :)

  • I like the 20Kps it sounded like it was underwater and that's a pretty cool effect.

  • Cool glad you like it :) Gives me some ideas for making music :)

  • yo dude thanks a ton for making music for corys videos!!! The little vlogs are way cooler that way :D keep on making great music!

  • Thanks, hope to have cory a lot more freash music to use soon :)

  • Thank you for the video and explanation! It has made the b/rates seem a little less confusing now, lol.

I checked the quality, and, I can certainly agree with you. I like things as best as they can be :)

    Again, many thanks!

  • hehe, glad to be of service. And your welcome.

  • would be nice if I actually had the wav codec you used :(

  • Standard wav plays in window media player? Or you trying to play the 24bit file?

  • i was trying for the 24 bit

  • no codec, but you need to use a program which plays 24bit files. Google "24 bit wav player" oh and a soundcard which can handle 24bit

  • Awesome. Thanks for sharing your talent!

  • your welcome

  • Awsome, i always used to get confused with all these k's and b's and s's

the music is absolutaly FaNtASTik !

  • Same I know b= bit and B = byte (8 bits), but i skip most of the time, which is whcih usually. And thank you.

  • Thanks and thanks for the comment

  • Neat video! And nice sample loop to go with it, too. I think 128bitrate is probably decent enough for any downloads.

  • Thanks and thanks for your contribution

  • Thanks Nathan =) I understand more now.

    Also...

FREE MUSIC! *Om nom nom* *Download* =D

  • lol, your welcome

  • i love your music in any bitrate =P ...yeah but I do prefer better quality and a good soundsystem...!!!

    Sara

  • Thanks girl, agreed. When i'm famous. I'll get a super sound system.

  • Wow that is a big difference!!

  • :), hope it helped

  • Wow, I havnt been on this account for a while and i go onto your profile and you have grown alot!!!

    nice one!!

  • lol, hey dude. Cheers, yeah getting better, well not this one, but in general. :) I think .

  • No problem :)

Do you visualise music in your head as you go along??

  • I don't but it would be cool if i could.

  • lol how do you make such awesome music then? Does it just come to you?

  • yep, i think from a higher perspective.

  • Thanks a lot for this! I hardly ever paid attention to bit rates when uploading music, but I just checked some of my files and realized that that might be the reason I have distortions on my YouTube uploads, but not on the .wav file. I'm using Windows Movie Maker, and it converts 1411 kbps .wav files to 160 kbps. I may change the settings if possible.

Oh, and I agree with the people below that 192 kbps is best.

  • Your welcome, And thanks for you comment. Yeah best to start with a higher bit rate so it can down convert. Encoders can be a little funny.

  • I personally prefer my 192kps or bigger radio streams.

It's great though, as an engineer I've studied this in a technical level and there is a limit of the human ear on what differences higher kps can be noticed :)

    Great video.
